It’s been pre-empted the last couple of weeks. No big deal, I figure. Last week was the Super Bowl; and the week before there was some awards show on at that time slot. So I figured it was just a mid-season break.
But tonight NBC is airing the pilot of a new show called Kingpin. And the entertainment section of my local newspaper refers to it as “a mid-season replacement for Boomtown.”
Anybody have any idea what the scoop is with Boomtown?
As you may have noticed, this is February, and February is a Sweeps Month. Meaning all the networks roll out all sorts of special events to improve their ratings. Kingpin is one such event–it’s a mini-series. (Remember them?)
Once Kingpin and Sweeps are over, we can hope that Boomtown will return.
But it’s already been gone for a month, hasn’t it? It seems like there was a repeat one week, then the awards show, then the Super Bowl…I don’t think it’s been on for at least 3 or 4 weeks, right?
Is Kingpin being run every Sunday night in Boomtown’s timeslot, or is it spread out over just this week?
I didn’t realize it was just a mini-series. I thought it was a whole new show.
I liked Boomtown. I thought it was getting good ratings.
It’s neither fish nor fowl, really. I read an article on it in the TV Guide for this week, but I’ve misplaced that, so I can’t quote it. If I remember correctly, Kingpin has 6 episodes, and is going to run two times a week (on Sunday, in Boomtown’s slot, and on Tuesday in place of Dateline Tuesday) for 3 weeks, and that’s it (at least for this season, it wasn’t clear to me if it will be returning at some point). Boomtown is scheduled to return when Kingpin is over.
