Today is Administrative Professionals Day in the US, a day to thanking our support staff and secretaries.
I brought Kelly a bouquet of wild flowers! And a box of Godiva…If I did not have her my life here at school would not be complete! She rocks!
Thank You!
I am my admin professional, and so far, I’ve only received verbal thanks. I did see flowers, but I was ordering them on-line for someone else on my boss’s behalf.
We went all out for Linda (the world’s best assistant btw). Flowers from the whole organization (these are sent to all admin. assistants), a gift certificate for a day at a local day spa from the group she specifically does stuff for (i.e. the rest of my staff and me) and a gift card from me to her favorite department store. We’re all class here.
Our secretary was gone most of yesterday and all of today. She’s a very nice person but she really doesn’t do a lot for us in general. She supports the team leader, and she scans and emails some work documents, but we all do our own typing/travel plans/slides/conference room reservations/ phone answering. I like her a lot, but I don’t think she’s deserving of special recognition any more than anyone else in here. She’s pretty much just another cubicle denizen. I doubt that anything will be done for her - the woman who used to collect for gifts and flowers has transferred.
Well, I waited with bated breath ALL MORNING, and then finally realized I was SOL on this front. <le sigh>
When I finally collectively guilt-tripped my 3 (male rocket scientist) bosses, their response was…wait for it…
“Well, you didn’t put it on the calendar!”
Oh well, this is the best job with the best bosses I have ever had in my life, so I’m not really complaining. They make up for it in many other ways.
We’re going out tomorrow for lunch.
It’s not much, but the best we can do right now.
It’s only me and my coworker and we’re both the admins, so our boss is taking us out.
Wee!
AmericanMaid - I’m a prof. and I gave flowers and chocolate…but then again I’m a psych prof…so maybe a little more intune with peoples emotions What department are you in?
Anywhoo! I’m sure you are great! Have a wonderful day!! The same to all who didn’t get much today besides more work and a few smiles.
Yep, we (and by ‘we’ I mean ‘I’ told the two clueless associates with whom I share my secretary what ‘we’re’ getting her and what ‘they’ owe ‘me’ for it) got her this Gift Tower from Harry and David.
JuanitaTech and Phlosphr, are you hiring? You two rock! Marry me or something.
15 years in the Admin game now, and TWICE this day has been recognized for me. The first was about 12 years ago, by my own mother. She knew that Scrooge wouldnt get me anything, so she sent me a basket of flowers. Bless her little heart.
And then TODAY, Mr. AssHat Manager, who I just got in a horrible argument with two weeks ago over my “tone” in an email, grabs a thank you card out of his stash for our customers, quickly writes a “thanks for all you do” inside it and slaps it on my desk. Woopee. Then, after much badgering to the CEO by my only buddy in the sales dept, just now I get a card and a $35 gift certificate to a nearby restaraunt. Our Receptionist got the same thing.
It’s not that you take a job for the recognition, but it means just a little bit more when it’s not forced.
I support 3 managers. I’ve worked with one of them for 6 years, one has been here for 10 months and the other for 2 months. I was pretty sure they were all going to forget and not do anything for me. Well, much to my surprise all three of them showed up at my desk this morning and gave me a gift certificate to our local mall. I was pretty shocked.
I am an administrative person … my boss brought me and my co-worker (the other admin-type person) orchids. I’ll probably kill it promptly, but for a short time my desk will be pretty
