So I finally got this client all finished up (why do the little annoying unscheduled jobs always come in at 11 am just when you were thinking about taking an early lunch?). Two and a half hours later, I dashed to the fridge for my lunch.
I was starved, but the reward was great…two nights ago I made some homemade Kung-Pao Chicken (your spelling may vary). Traditionally (at least by the supermarket-provided recipe card that I have for it) Kung-Pao is a simple dish with chicken, garlic, green onions, peanuts and sauce served over rice. I tend to add in whatever extra vegetables are lying around (who left that celery there?). This version included mushrooms and green pepper.
Making Kung-Pao is an exercise in patience for the cook in my house, as the family has varied tastes. For Elder Younger and Mrs. Younger, I pull out their servings after wokking it all but not yet adding the peanuts. Next come Middle Younger and Younger Younger, who get their servings after the peanuts have been added (Younger Younger recently turned two and as such we let him eat peanuts now, but before that he was in the same category as Mrs. Younger and Elder Younger, except that they don’t get peanuts because they don’t like them. Younger Younger LOVES peanuts.)
Then comes MY version…add MORE peanuts, and then plenty of Red Pepper Flakes[sup]TM[/sup]. Now, I don’t like things blazing hot, but I do want a bit of kick to it. Enough to almost but not quite break a sweat. Unfortunately, because everyone else already has their’s and I don’t want to hold up dinner, I don’t let the red pepper cook in as well as it ought to, but these are the sacrifices one must make for family unity, musn’t one?
So today, I was finally able to enjoy my leftover Kung-Pao, especially delicious after the two days of the pepper and garlic co-mingling. YUMMM!
So, (since I’ve now shared as mundane and pointless a thing as I can think of), had anything good for lunch lately?
I just now got back. I took our fact-checker for a going-away lunch (he’s moving to Santa Barbara this week). Had basic “Chinese” in the Grand Central food court. Nice guy, and REALLY good-looking, in a George Clooney way, so it’s always very pleasant to be seen in his company!
I had an errand to run during my lunch break, I then picked up lunch for the office (i’m a nice guy). Anyways I got food from a mexican place brought it into the office, and went back to work. So I have a plate of very yummy chicken fajitas that I swear tastes really good but whenever I go to eat some I have to go answer some damm couriers question over the radio, or I have to dispatch a job to a courier. The food looks great, tastes yummy but I cannot eat any
i havent, but im going to have an original joe’s hamburger sandwich, and i cant frickin wait. its about 12 ounces, and its grilled over lazzeri charcoal on this ancient cast iron grill. you can sit right in front of the grill and watch the hamburger guy chop a bunch of minced onion into your burger with the side of his spatula, and then you get to watch it sputter and char.
then the ancient waiter, wearing a tux, grabs the plate and dumps a bunch of excellent fries on it. the french roll is buttered, so melted butter pools on the top when you go to put mayo, ketchup, and salt and pepper on it.
aaiiiiiii!!! the waiting, she is the hardest part.
ps this is the second best hamburger in the world. the best hamburger in the world is to be found at ralphs chadwick square diner, in worcester, mass. it comes on a widoff’s bulkie roll and you can get some wachussett brand potato chips to go with it. heaven!!
I have a pork burrito, smothered with green chile, from El Taco Loco. Yummm… usually too big of a lunch for me, but as Mr. Athena is going out of town tonight I can eat popcorn for dinner if I’m not hungry. Yippeee!
I had me a PB&J with peach preserves, black cherry yoghurt (not on the sammich), and cucumber slices (not in the yoghurt). I’ve still got a peach, but I think I’ll save that till tomorrow.
No. It’s not here yet and I’m starving.
: eyes coworkers hungrily :
I think I could pull the woman who works next to me under her desk and nobody would notice.
: ponder :
The smoke alarms are the problem.
I was craving chinese food so I had beef with mixed vegetables (no nasty water chesnuts, with extra mushrooms) and a nice hot bowl of won ton soup and a big, juicy glass of ice tea.
I had a Baby Ruth bar for lunch today. I learned my lesson shortly afterwards, as I’m in marching band at my school and have practice directly after lunch. I was seriously close to collapsing on the pavement while playing very loud.
So tomorrow, I shall have to eat food that did not come out of a vending machine. I would like to eat your chicken. (sounds yummy!) But my school cafeteria seems to prefer soy hamburger-colored product. Ugh.
The last good lunch I had was a roast beef sandwich with Muenster cheese (love that), Doritos, and vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup. Yum. That was 3 weeks ago.

The company bought us lunch today. Pretty good pizza at a local hole-in-the-wall I’d never been to. I especially recommend the garlic and mushroom, but, then, I have my own office.
The downside is that they called the lunch in order to let us know we’re all going to have to fill out a tediously detailed description of everything we do so the company can rearrange our job titles.
I use my lunch hour for working out at the gym. I am eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich and Cheetos and leaving big orange stains all over my paperwork and desktop.
