He Hate Me FF Keeper League - Year 14

Is the spot in this league still available?
I know I’m not really active on the boards but I think my fantasy participation speaks for itself.
Let me know.

Yep, I know you’re good and reliable. Feel free to post on the boards more, I wish everyone would - leagues are a lot more fun with a lot of talk. Look at the dynasty league - we end up having like 20 pages of thread in that one. I’ll send you an invite.

You’ll be able to select keepers from this team

No Use For A Name
3. (34) Peyton Manning (Den - QB)
4. (51) Jason Witten (Dal - TE)
5. (62) Seattle (Sea - DEF)
*6. (79) Joique Bell  (Det - RB)
7. (90) Stephen Gostkowski (NE - K)
*8. (107) Jordan Matthews  (Phi - WR)
9. (118) Philip Rivers (SD - QB)
*11. (146) Alfred Blue  (Hou - RB)
12. (163) Zach Ertz (Phi - TE)

Can I change the team name, or is it important to keep it for continuity?

No, feel free to change it to whatever you’d like. I just invited you to an existing team so you’d be able to set your keepers through the league that way.

Did I miss something? I’ve been trying to get back on to the league, and I can’t seem to access the league page.

My computer video went out and I just got a backup running, so I’ve been off for a couple of days.

I’ll be keeping Andy Dalton in the 11th round, and that’s it.

I’ll be keeping:
Jordy Nelson in the 6th round.
Arizona Cardinals Defense in the 13th round.

To be more specific, I’ll be keeping, after round subtraction:

Eric Decker in the 4th round.
Doug Baldwin in the 10th round.
CAR D/ST in the 13th round.

My keepers will be Cam Newton and Delanie Walker.

I’ll be keeping Donte Moncrief in the 14th and Carson Palmer in the 9th

Looks like my only keeper will be Langford in the 11th.

New to keepers, so some questions…

  1. Is there somewhere on the Y! site that shows which keepers other managers have chosen?
  2. I assume that the custom is to announce your keepers here on the thread, and then make the corresponding selections on the Y! site, is this correct?
  3. Are you able to change your keepers (before the 9/2 deadline) or is it a one-shot deal?

I know I’m the new guy here, but while we’re talking about changing the playoff format, I’d propose the following:
While expanding the playoffs to six teams (a good idea for a 14 team league), make the 6th playoff spot a true wild-card, awarded to the team with the most points scored, regardless of record.
This is something that we’ve done for several years now in my home league, and I think it helps make the playoffs a contest between the truly best teams, in fact the high-score-wild-card team has won the championship two of the last 4 years.
Fantasy football, unlike baseball, is very prone to flukes and dumb luck. The head-to-head match ups are often unbalanced (though in a 14-team league you at least get to play each team once), but inevitably, e.g., one team will face tough, playoff-bound teams in the last weeks of the season, while another team will face bad teams (which have managers who might not be working hard, the season having already been lost) and get easy wins. The high-score-wild-card can balance the inequity of the e.g., skilled, earnest manager who takes a few close losses early in the season being out of the running. Similarly, it incentivizes every manager to keep pushing and working hard late into the season, since nobody is really out of it. It also helps keep the drama level very high.

The only drawback is that Y! doesn’t allow you (as far as I know) to manually change the playoff brackets, so you have to work out a bracket with pencil and paper.

I hope you all will agree with me, that a high-score-wild-card berth is a good step to ensuring that the playoffs are contested between the truly best teams.

Trading block:
Any of my players are available, I’d like to get some two-for-ones to try to extract some value from this awful, inherited-previously-auto-drafted team.
I think that Rivers in the 7th, Blue in the 9th, or Ertz in the 10th could be of some value to a team. Of course, if you want to spend a 3rd rounder on Seattle or a 5th rounder on a kicker (who wouldn’t?!) I’m all ears.
And you never know, Peyton might come back after all, and what a deal he’d be for a first-round pick!

(Note: This is my first year doing a keeper league in Yahoo.)

  1. I haven’t been able to find one. Going to another team’s page, there’s a Keepers link, but I get an error saying I’m not the team owner when I try to go there.

  2. That’s what I did, but I’ll probably post it on the Yahoo site too.

  3. It’s not a one-shot; you can change the Keepers all you want up to that point.

I don’t see any obvious place you can see keepers at this point. I know after the deadline they’ll have a little k next to them.

And yes, announce the keepers to the thread and then enter them yourself under the players->choose keepers menu.

And I’m pretty sure you can change your keepers by using that same menu, but if there’s any problem just post about it in the thread and I’ll fix it.

Your idea about the 6th place wildcard slot is interesting. In your example you noted the top scorer could miss the playoffs anyway due to flukes, but what you’re proposing is to give it to the highest scorer of non-playoff teams, even if he’s, say, the 5th highest scorer overall because the top 4 scorers are already in the playoffs, right?

Alright, the voting has concluded on the new rule proposals this year.

  1. Move to a 6 man playoff format wins 7-1
  2. Only the winner of the consolation bracket gets the top draft pick, consolation bowl losers are in normal reverse order of standing wins 7-1
  3. Add one IR slot wins 5-2

Someone else posted “yes” to each question as a forum response. I don’t know if they voted. If they didn’t, the actual votes are 8-1, 8-1, and 6-2. Doesn’t matter - all rules passed overwhelmingly.

The new draft order will only take effect next year, since that’s something that affects the current status of the league. The 6 man playoffs and IR slot will take effect this year, since that doesn’t affect anyone yet. The new draft order will simply be #1 goes to the consolation bowl winner and then reverse order of standings, with the last place finisher starting at #2 and the person who won the league getting #14.

So am I still drafting #2? Because if so I will trade the pick to move up in rounds 2 and 4, if anyone wants to do that.

Yeah, you’re #2.

Fightin’ Quakers------>Disgruntled Goats
