Nothing is being destroyed, the matter is resolved and we’re moving forward.
If you want to be commish next year, that’s fine with me, like I said I don’t want the job, it’s just that if I didn’t take it the league likely would not have been organized enough to run properly that year. I commish the leagues I’ve created because that’s natural enough - I wanted to create them for one reason or another so I’ll take on the work of running them - but this was never my league, and so it never felt particularly right to be the commissioner nor is it a job I particularly want. Do you want the job?
I’m free to make any board rulings I wish…and my decree is: Johnny Ace cannot post or participate in this thread any more.
Now if you still want to include him in the league since the main game is OFF site, that’s fine. Obviously I have no power over that. Point in fact, I didn’t even know it was played off site until someone messaged me about it, I thought the whole entire game was being played in this thread. Well, if someone is banned from a thread (and yes, I do have the power to do that, by the way. That much, I do) because they can’t follow mod instruction, then it would mean they couldn’t play in the game any more if the entire game was in that thread.
Now in this case, this thread is just a place to talk about and plan stuff. The actual game is played off boards. Well, that’s fine. If you want to keep JA in the game that way, feel free. He’s just not allowed to participate in this thread (or any thread related to it). New season/year? Sure, maybe. Not this one, though.
Alright, so since people don’t want to deal with it now we can just shelve the rule change proposal until next year.
We’ve got a minor problem - Varlos has been gone for a few weeks because he’s was abducted by aliens and we’re not sure when they’re going to return him. Apparently his probings are unusually good.
Normally in this situation I’ll step in and manage someone’s roster because it’s unbalancing to have an absent player - it’s not fair if one player wins because his opponent didn’t set his roster and then that player ends up going to the playoffs over some third player who didn’t get a free win.
Now - this week in particular it’s not a big deal to leave his roster as-is. The only change we’d make based on yahoo projections (the most fair/objective way to set a roster) would be changing his defense. It’s not like he’s starting an injured player. So I may just let it go this week and see if he’s back by next week. But in the event that his absense extends, I’m going to set his roster using the best yahoo projected roster he can field. I won’t make any adds or drops on his roster, although if he’s gone long term and gets injured players we may have to look into how we’d handle that to keep things balanced.
I’m a deceivingly dangerous 1-3 team with the lowest number of points scored. I lost by .57 points in Week 3 - that’s 6 yards. And my perfectly healthy TE didn’t catch a single pass that day. I’m not bitter, especially losing to Dave, whom I love and adore.
That may have been the worst beat I’ve ever suffered in fantasy - up over 7 with 4 seconds to go on Monday night, and a meaningless fumble recovery and TD has me lose by just over a point.
Of course there are I’m sure many bettors out there with far more to bitch about - that score was the over and changed the result against the spread…
Well at least Deshaun Watson looks like a good keeper next year in round 13.
Is Varlos still MIA? I play him this week and he needs two, maybe three WRs this week due to byes and injuries. I’m undefeated currently but I do not want a hollow victory.
Varlos is still gone, unfortunately. It’s easy for me to just adjust the roster he already has to give him his best projected point lineup, but when I have to manage his roster by actually dropping and adding players it gets more complex. I’m not sure what the solution is - I can make a good-faith effort to manage his team as well as I can. I don’t think I can make waiver claims on his behalf, but only moving players on and off his rosters - so I’d really only be able to pick up free agents. It’s not just a simple matter of dropping the lowest projected player and grabbing the highest projected free agent - for instance, I wouldn’t drop one of his better players because they have a low projection because of a short term injury. Best I can do is pretty much manage his team as I would my own, given the circumstances. Unless someone has a better idea about how we can handle his team going forward.
I appreciate that you’re forward enough not to take the easy win, Motu. One of the reason I like these leagues on the SDMB is that everyone wants to do what’s right, not just what’s expedient.
I did a minimal management of Varlos’ roster. David Johnson is on IR for half the season, which means that by putting him in the IR slot I opened up one slot on the roster and didn’t need to drop anyone. He needed another player to be able to field a roster. I picked up Elijah McGuire who was the highest projected player for his flex slot to fill out his roster.
Peculiar game - Overly Sentimental missed setting his roster this week (he had a QB on bye, and 2 players who were declared out for their games still starting for him) so he only actually had 4 players active this weekend, with which he scored a rather sad 30 points. But his opponent, fielding a full roster minus one MNF player, only managed to score 29. So he may win the lowest scoring game of all time with a partial roster. He’s since managed to set his roster and picked up the only QB available to him - Trubisky - in place of Cousins on a bye. So he needs Trubisky and Jordan Howard to outscore Stefon Diggs. We could potentially have a winner with a score in the 40s.
I had a sad week and could barely beat those scores myself.
So it turned out that Bryant and Pryor were total duds. I don’t know why, but neither of them can do anything. Turns out my keepers weren’t very good after all.
Allen Robinson, who would’ve been my #1 receiver by far given the circumstances, also bit it in week 1.
But despite that I’ve managed to come out on top (for this week) despite having the highest points scored against me of anyone on the league.
I’m still willing to move one of my RBs for a WR, but add Kamara who has crazy keeper value to the list.
Well I picked up the right random waiver wire WR this week (Paul Richardson) but my WR corps is in a pathetic state. I thought I was so strong with WRs this year. Pryor put up a zero today somehow. I have no idea how he regressed so much - he’s so talented and he managed to put up 1000 years with no one throwing to him in his first year as a WR - how do you turn into nothing at all after that? And the Steelers aren’t even interested in trying to let Bryant play.
So every week I’ve got two starting RBs on my bench. I’ve been lazy about making trade offers this year, I’m gonna hop to it this week.
My team is still managing to do pretty well despite basically having no starting WRs at this point. In my defense, I did draft Allen Robinson - my situation would be a lot better if I had him.
Ugh, I Hate Me. Was trying to pick up Forte for this week, but didn’t realize he was playing tonight and wouldn’t come off waivers until after this week’s games.
