As I recall, many of the screwups were from owners who didn’t do any preranking at all. You’re right about this point, though. I didn’t include it because it adds some complexity to both the preranking and verification procedures.

Any owners who want to prerank (as opposed to exclude) the keepers they will physically be selecting are encouraged to do so. Here’s the details:

Prerank them to the last pick in the prior round. So if he’s being kept in the 8th, prerank him to (8-1)*14=98.

When you send your image verification, write in the email what pick #s you ranked each keeper as. So it would look like:

Philip Rivers (12th) #154
Vince Young (9th) #112

Note that these may not be your keepers if you have traded picks.

Wilson, this will be particularly useful for you since you may not be at the live draft. As long as you rank them via the formula, yahoo’s logic will pick them for you in (close enough to) the correct round.

Few things I don’t get.

How are we drafting our own keepers while they are on the exclude list?

What’s the point of preranking players if we use the exclude list (assuming we plan on being at the draft)?

Fair questions.

The excluded list doesn’t normally apply. It kicks in if you miss the draft and get autodrafted, but if you’re there in realtime and don’t do anything, the excluded list is ignored.

At the top of the players list there is a dropdown where you can select how you want to display the players. It defaults to “Y! Rankings”, where Y! = Yahoo!, meaning it defaults to the standard yahoo rankings. If you select “My Rankings” from the dropdown, then the list gets filtered based on your excluded players and reordered based on your prerankings.

Unfortunately, the “My Rankings” display won’t show any players that aren’t in your actual prerankings list. So if you just added a few dozen of the top guys in the order you like them, your list will empty out after the first couple rounds and “My Rankings” won’t show any players at all.

So the ultimate solution is to prerank pretty much everyone you’d ever want to draft, set your exclude list, and then stay in the “My Rankings” filter for the entire draft. That way you’ll never see any keepers to be confused by.

As for how to draft keepers when appropriate, there are two basic methods. Either one is fine, and which one you want to use is up to you:[ul][li]When you need to draft a keeper, switch the dropdown from “My Rankings” to “Y! Rankings” so that all players are listed. Draft the keeper, then set it back to “My Rankings”. OR…[/li][li]Move the keepers that you will be selecting (not necessarily your keepers if you traded picks) into your preranking list in the approximate position they’ll be drafted. Use the formula: 14 * (Keeper Round - 1) to determine where to prerank them. You’ll be able to see them all draft, so you have to be careful not to draft them in the wrong round. But even if you do, you were supposed to draft them anyway so no harm no foul; you just miss out on that draft pick. When the pick you should’ve used on the keeper comes up, you just pick whomever you want instead.[/ul]The first option is more annoying but probably safer. I’ll be including reminders in the auto-notifications to switch back to “My Rankings”.[/li]

Remember, if I don’t have a screenshot for you then you’ll be bumped to the end of the waiver priority. Even worse is that you might fuck up the draft.

How about I’ve been doing this league for years now and never fucked up the draft? I have the time blocked off tomorrow, and if I get a final list of kept players I’ll go exclude them from my draft in case I have a power outage or something, but I really see no reason to waste my time compiling some stupid, elaborate preranking list when I am going to be there, live and in person, taking care of it myself. You know, like I committed to do when I joined this league.

So I have been out of the country and not following the preseason at all, except to the extent of knowing that Michael Vick is going to federal pound me in the ass prison. Time to start doing some research.

Auction League

Several posters expressed interest in an auction league last year, but it was too late in the game to get one going. SenorBeef is trying to get one going in this thread, so if you’re at all interested, the more the merrier.

The roster breakdown is tentatively: QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE, K, DEF, 7BEN = 16 total (default yahoo scoring)

Unlike salary cap football, this will use up a regular yahoo fantasy league. (After the auction it will basically revert to a regular league.) The yahoo league info:

That was a good draft; it went nice and smooth with no real fuckups of note. Looking at last year’s thread, this year I was able to post the results a full hour earlier, which makes me happy.

I’ll go and set the yahoo rosters now. The results in the previous post are official, so check this thread to make sure your team is listed correctly.

I finished making all the roster adjustments in yahoo, so you should have everybody you’re supposed to. You may want to verify that. Also, don’t forget to set your starting lineups before Thursday.

The same Waiver Wire from last year is in effect. As I understand it, everyone is on yahoo waivers for the next two days, so if you sign a free agent now you will lose your waiver priority.
