Hearts and Flowers in the MMP

Mileage varies with the year, the team, and current trends. As a rule Olympic .22 rifle shooters use lower velocity but far from the bounce off the nose kind; those kind (BB and CB Caps they are called even though they are .22 caliber) can’t hit for crap even indoors most times. And considering how big the shooting aspect of the game is ------ you use what works. A regular .22 short will bring down rabbit and squirrel (but not moose and squirrel  ) at 50 yards and most of the current international shooters look to be using .22LR loaded fairly upper-end speed-wise.

One thing I see in the newer ski biathlon guns is a trend to .17HMR ----- smaller bullets going super-fast and longer (repeat: longer) range than the average .22LR. So that may say something.
Oh ------- and I REALLY want one of the Anschutz rifles just not $3K worth. That modification from the old Swiss t-bolt design that you can basically cock and fire without moving your hand very much ------ I WANTS ONE BADLY!!!

<hangs head in shame> And I just figured out how the scoring works this week.

I just had a minor freakout about the cat’s supplies. She eats Friskies-brand kibble and canned goo, fortunately.

To be clear, no contaminants have been found in Meow Mix, or Pup-eroni - just the Gravy Train. That wont keep me from fretting, though. I just have *no *money right now, so I am just going to fret until my account replenishes itself, I guess. But damn it.

Oh, I still haven’t. My husband probably has - it just seems like every time I look up it’s curling on the screen.

I have seen zero Olympics and I know almost zero about curling. It looks like fun though.

It’s actually quite simple; only rocks inside or touching the circles count at all. Whoever has the closest rock to dead-center gets to score at the end of that round. You get one point additional for each rock of yours closer to center than the closest rock from the other team. So if I am closest to center and you are next closest, I get 1 point. If you are closest, second closest, third and I am fourth closest ----- you get 3 points.

And its only taken me 50some years of watching it on TV to figure this out. No wonder I work at Da Jungle!!!

My mother loved tuna noodle casserole, I could barely choke it down.

My dog eats Iams, or at least the latest bag is Iams. Sometimes it’s Blue Buffalo.
I know switching around is not good for the tummy, but I read somewhere that it is good to switch around because some brands can be short on certain nutrients and others can be short on other nutrients, so if you mix it up a bit they will end up getting everything they need.
The cat eats Iams too so I guess no worries there either.

The way both of them are acting lately I’d be more likely to think somebody put speed in their food.

I heard back from the breeder as to why she doesn’t like dog parks.
She pointed out that not everybody takes good care of their dogs and dog parks can help spread parasites and diseases.
She is especially concerned about the dog flu, which is spreading and is pretty bad on the east coast.
I don’t think Ripple got his flu shot, no need for it unless he will be around lots of other dogs.
I’ll call the vet and see what she advises.
I need to think about getting Ripple neutered soon anyway.

It was a rough day today, got something going on and was really sick all evening.

I hope the water issues get fixed soon MetalMouse.

Ja - de wurst kind!!! :D:D:D:D:D

**sari **- rather than switching foods, why not get a bag of each and mix them together? I did that with the cats so they’d get the Indoor-only food and the urinary tract health food every time.

I wasn’t surprised to see Ol’ Roy on that dog food list. Wasn’t it also one when the Chinese-made foods were killing dogs? We do Purina dog food and Alpo treats - the vet says Higgs is perfectly healthy, so I’m satisfied.

TGIF!! It’s really warm this morning, but a freeze is forecast for tonight. I’m taking the truck to Mom’s tomorrow, which means I’ll be climbing into a freezing vehicle. dammit. Stoopit weather!

But first, I need to get thru today. Happy Firday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and partly N.O.S. for the day meanin’ the sun may show up sometime this afternoon, I reckon. No real big plans for the day. A few things around da cave need doin’ and well, there’s Netflix to watch since it won’t watch itself. Veggie soup and corn bread shall be supped upon.

red I don’t have a specific rotation. I can assure you, however, it will not include tuna casserole. ICK!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day!

Happy Firday Y’all!

OMG!! The baby who shares my office never heard of Jim Henson.

Kids these days… :smack:

Thanks for this. I have been watching a lot but did not understand the scoring.

Blurfage. Up and at em. Well up. We are leaving to go to Homestead for a doctor appointment around 11ish. The appointment is at 2:30 but knowing hubby he will want to leave early in case of traffic. It is only a 2 and a half hour drive. The doctor will probably look into my sinuses with a camera and degunk if necessary. I hope it will not be necessary as that sounds most unpleasant.

Then weekend. Long weekend. By the time I get back to irk on Tuesday I will have been off almost two weeks. I am more than ready to get back.

Happy Firday all!

Up, cafeinated, and sheveeld. closing tonight, missing hockey. :frowning:

Curling rocks!

or you could find a .22 SMLE, if you want to barely move when working the bolt.(I’ve always wanted a SMLE, just in case the Beastly Hun shows up at my doorstep ;)).

FCM, when eating children, eat them before they reach 1st Grade. It’s kinder that way.

Sunny, curling is awesome. There’s even a curling club here in the area.

Butters, I’m the opposite. With all the visits and transitions at my store, my next day off may be the 27th.:dubious:

One of my coworkers is a grandmother and she wasn’t born until after the Beatles broke up and has “some idea of a couple of their songs”.

One would think so but -------- the modern biathlon rifles are so short-stroked that you can basically stay in position and reload just flicking your thumb. They really are the most incredible design and so far beyond what I could possible have imagined 30 years back --------- just freaking amazing.

PS – I did have a .22 trainer of a Swiss t-bolt at one time and I have my current K-98 KKW. The first I was a little (a-hem) neutral about which is probably why I didn’t keep it but the second ------ those pesky Brits better give me some “living space”.

And in honor of W. C. -------- properly cook them. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a memory of why I hate Valentimes Day. When I was married, I always my (ex) husband to get me a big heart shaped box of chocolates. His reply was “you don’t need that.” What an @sshole. In other news, it’s Firday, I’m going out for Chinese on Sunday, and I get to ride my pony. Well, she’s a horse, but I call her my pony. I heart her, and Ursala Kitteh.

Happy Friday, mumpers!

Been a very busy week here, it’s Reading Week so there should have been no students and no academics around but for some reason there’s been far more hassle from them than there ought to be. Can’t they leave us alone for a few days to actually get some work done?

Bah!

I had a paper accepted at a conference today. Hooray!

Happy Firday!

Not really happy, but it’ll do.

Something in the house is making a weird noise. I know it’s not the furnace, I hope it’s not the fridge.
I’ll get Sah-son to go down and check the dehumidifyer later.

It’s a rainy day, 57 degrees outside.
Supposed to be cold and snowy tomorrow, then warm up again.

We have to go to the college again tomorrow for his math exam.
He imformed me of this last night.
I think we should go today but he says he needs to study some more.

The brats were exceptionally bratty this morning, but now the cat is outside and the dog is sleeping so all is quiet for now.

I should do that FCM, buy 2 20 pound bags instead of 1 40 pound.

I wouldn’t feed my dogs Ol’ Roy.
That stuff is awful.
Even the strays I took in, and they were some hungry dogs, wouldn’t touch the stuff.

Lots to do today, so much and I don’t know where to start.
I wanted to do most of it tomorrow but some other things have come up that need to be done.

Yay Roadrunner! What kind of paper/conference, if we’re permitted to ask?

Sari - if that’s the breeder’s reasoning, you should definitely take your pup. A bordatella shot is no big thing, and you can get a kind of heart worm preventative medication that includes parasite prevention too. I’ve never had an issue like the kind she mentions, and the dogs love going.

Rain with a chance of snow until late today. Weather iz weird.

Doing laundry, and hanging out today. Wicked headache, so same ol’ same ol’ I guess.

Happy Firday everyone. We made it!
