Charlie??? What the hell? Yes, he utterly sucked as a waiter. Really awfully badly…to the point where I was thinking “Hon, do you have some mental issues you haven’t shared?” And he didn’t do fabulous at the shrimp etc. Yes, he’s weak.
But Gordon kept SETH??? SETH???
Seth who wouldn’t shut up? Seth who just wasted half of that filet cut? What??
And the offal punishment is the one that I could never pass. I couldn’t ever watch Fear Factor. Ugh.
Thanks to LA for admitting she hoped they’d lose, so that Lacey would go.
Lacey definitely needs to go. I think she’s gotten a little cocky in how ‘valuable’ she is since she got her ass saved by Gi last episode. Blanking on her name, but the cooking teacher has good intentions and seems like a nice person but she’s way out of her league here.
If I were in Ramsey’s shoes, I would have done a double header and sent them both packing. They were both useless. Then he could have followed up by booting Lacey and the other useless gal next week. Yes, I realize that would shorten the season a couple of episodes, but so be it.
I guess Seth’s brownnosing abilities really did come in handy, because I can’t see any other reason why Charlie and not he was sent packing. As you may recall in the last episode Seth mentioned how he had read all of Ramsay’s books and even knew the name of his kids and what type of cars he drove. And then when he was giving his longwinded speech last night he also mentioned that he liked getting yelled at.
I missed parts of the show and didn’t have a chance to review it on Hulu yet…did the women do a better job of cooking steak? And how did they account for the fact that Giovanni couldn’t seem to get a single steak cooked right, when this is what he does for a living?
I assume Giovanni got good in his own kitchen setup, but hasn’t gotten used to the stove and timings and team dynamic in Gordon’s studio kitchen. Or he overhyped his own skills.
As for keeping Seth, the producers probably asked him to do that to keep more clowns around for amusement. As long as the choice doesn’t eliminate any of the four best contestants, Gordon is probably okay with it.
Boo. The audio on my recording was screwy so I ended up deleting it after a while. I felt awful for the woman who was barfing from the offal punishment and her speech afterwards to the effect of ‘this is what we get when we don’t work together’.
Gimme a break! Does anybody actually vomit from eating liver or tongue? Was it raw? If they have such touchy stomachs I don’t think they need to be working in a kitchen.
Probably a texture issue. Either that or just a huge mental block on eating that stuff. (Tripe does look nasty.) And that stuff didn’t even look seasoned, just (maybe) cooked and plopped down on a plate. Even people who normally eat those parts do something with/to them.
I’m really not getting into this. Maybe it’s because it’s on at the while Top Chef is being aired, but there’s just no contest for me. The weepy chefs, the pathetic food, the fake-abusive Ramsey (not that I don’t think he has a temper, but I don’t think it’s that exaggerated). It’s just too contrived.
I just watched the past 3 episodes online so I will cover them all here.
Re: The guys
Wasn’t this Seth’s second time on the chopping block? I don’t recall Charlie being a standout at being either good or bad prior to this but I don’t think he deserved to go over two-time nominee Seth. That was just weird. I wonder if Giovanni had been put up against Seth if he would have been sent packing, too? Sure he screwed up on the steak but he has shown skills in other areas (i.e. the scallops).
I don’t want to hear any more about Robert whining about how he is treated for being overweight. He has to have seen previous seasons of this show and seen how obese chefs are treated and should know it would be an issue. He is the one who chose to be on this show so either shut up about it or quit.
Re: The ladies
I was really sad to see Ji go. I wish he had offered to let her come back next season (if there is one). She had potential and she was nice, which seems a rare commodity on this show.
I wanted to be sympathetic to Colleen because she’s older but I just can’t, I want her gone and I want Lacey gone with her. Lacey should have been gone in the first episode.
The whole ‘Jenn or Matt’ choice for the final challenge of last season made such compelling drama that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Seth and Lacey both make it to the combined team stage. Ramsey and his producers seem to be more than happy to let someone who makes good television stay on for longer than their cooking skills allow. It’s a television show, not a restaurant, after all.
I kind of think Gordon wants to do Colleen, and why he is so hard on her. Hadn’t they tried and tried to get her on the show, and she finally agreed? I read an article somewhere, may have even been posted here.
I thought the girl throwing up was because of the mentality of what you are eating. I love cheeseburgers, but when I eat a piece of rare steak, I start to gag because I just suddenly realize “this is cow, this is totally a cow” and it turns me off, so I can see that happening to me. My boyfriend loves this, of course, because it means I won’t be wanting any tastes of his wonderful meat. I have tried to write this last sentence in three different ways, and they are all coming out dirty sounding, so I will just leave it as is.
I just caught up with this on Tivo last night. I really can’t believe all of these wanna be chefs have such a problem with the slaughterhouse and offal. It’s raw meat, folks. The tools of your trade, if you will. If you’re that queasy about it maybe you should stick to chopping veggies.
Did you see the size of the steak on Robert’s plate at the reward dinner? Holy crap, it was as big as the plate itself. I hope there’s an EMT standing by with a crash cart the whole time they’re filming, because that guy is a capful of A-1 sauce away from The Big One.
I was also surprised at how idiotic they all were about the cuts of beef. I could probably get 4 or 5 out of 8, and I don’t eat that much read meat. Flank steak is probably from the flank. Bottom round is probably not by the front shoulders, dummy.
I think Colleen likes taking orders as an underling. When PukeyGirl made her teary plea that the girls not lose the task, Colleen jumped in with “We won’t let you down again, Sir!” or something along those lines. I was waiting for one of them to say, “who died and made you team leader, bitch?”
