“Science” is pretty dang broad anyway. The analytical chemist that never leaves the lab is a scientist. So is the guy who studies snow monkeys in the Japanese mountains. You can work in isolation or as a team. You can spend your life “publishing or perishing”, or you can push papers as a government bureaucrat.

Or you can end up on a tropical island with six other people, building stuff out of coconuts.
