Happy Dance! Sah-son got an A - 100% on his Art paper.
I celebrate, not because he got an A but because he has no confidence. He really worried about this paper and I think this will help him to feel better about the work he does.
**sari **- is he a perfectionist? Some people tend to expect way too much of themselves. It takes time to figure out that the world my not demand of you what you demand of yourself.
But yay for A!!!
Not when it come to mowing the lawn or vacuuming
When it comes to school work he is. I think he is afraid of sounding stupid. He really got upset when he missed a question on his exam.
it drives me nuts because I tell him that sometimes what you have just has to be good enough and be done with it.
Back in the olden days when I was a student, it was important to my mother that I had the highest score in the class, or at least among the highest. I understand that she was emphasizing the importance of doing one’s best, but the way she went about it made it seem like anything short of perfection was a fail. That’s tough to deal with when you’re 10…
With my daughter, I tried really hard to avoid that. When she made mistakes on tests or assignments, I’d look at them with her and ask if she understood where the problem was. While it was really nice when she was on honor roll, I was more concerned that she was learning the material and applying sufficient effort to her studies. I guess I did OK - she’s a productive member of society and all.
That parent thing is not as easy as you’d think!
It’s a lovely, dry and breezy day and I think my afghans are going to smell really nice! Weather radar shows a band of rain moving this way, so I’ll have to bring them in before too long - I hope they’re all dry.
I finished my book - honest to goodness, I remember none of it, even tho I’m sure I read it before. The ending was too sappy and predictable, but not as horrible as it might have been, so there’s that. That makes 4 books in 2 weeks - it’s been a long time since I’ve read that much!
Relax mode is going well.
Congrats to your son on the A paper, sari!
I’m one of the few here today. I’m doing some internal audit irk (yay ) and the rest of the regular stuff. I still may get out early.
Happy Firday!
My mother was pretty picky too FCM. If I got an A on a paper well why not an A plus? If I got 100% why not more? Why didn’t I do some extra credit?
I didn’t do that with Sah-son. Actually I couldn’t even had I wanted to because he was dyslexic and everything was a struggle for him. I figured he’d get through school with C’s and the occasional B and he’d enroll in a trade school.
Something happened in high school and in his junior year he was taken out of the EIP and even took some college prep classes.
He still works really hard at writing, it doesn’t come easy for him. I think once he gets through all these core classes he has to take he may lean towards classes that don’t have so much writing.
I made the Dean’s list in undergraduate school once, and the son of a bitch didn’t introduce me to his daughter.
schmuck.
Howdy Y’all! Irk is over. Let the three day weekend begin! YAY!!! Tonight’s dindin shall be magic intartoobz pizza. Pepperoni to be exact cause I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’. I shall return to reply etc in a while.
Home. I grocery shopped before I left irk and went back and picked up Lucky Louie and we are home. The maid had been here so my house is all nice and clean and I have food. I don’t expect to leave the house until Tuesday morning.
It started raining, so I rushed out and pulled in all the afghans. Once I got them in and tossed half in the dryer, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Naturally… But we got a call that the truck was ready so I figgered I’d just let the dryer finish drying. Plus there’s the added bonus of that much more critter hair coming off.
Truck is back - we have achieved cruise control, plus a few other minor issues have been fixed, and the oil was changed. Ready for its trip to FL!! We ate while out - we’ll have the chickie tomorrow. **FCD **is snoozing and life is good.
Well today has, so far, been uneventful, something that I find desirous, and so am a fairly happy camper. The biggest events I have planned for will be picking up my smaller laptop from the computer doc after 5:00 and swinging past Noble Palace to pick up some chinese food for supper. There are plenty of treats in the house for later should my daughter and/or I get snackish. I found frozen, dark chocolate covered banana slices and strawberry halves at the grocery store, omg they are so good! I had forgotten how much I love frozen chocolate covered bananas, my mom used to make them when I was a sprout. I was happy enough with them last night (and 4 slices were enough) that I just said no to the ice cream, which will make my doc happy when I go in next week and show him my glucose numbers.
I think I need to give fb a bit of a breather. I’ll still check as I do communicate with friends and family there, but I need to get away from the politics. The Dope is nice in that as long as I don’t open certain fora and/or threads I don’t have an issue with my blood pressure. I am going to try to be here more frequently, and I think it’s past time for me to be writing my stories, at least in a blog. So if you who are my friends on what my son refers to as the book of face see me getting political, give me a bit of a nudge, would you please?
So, supper tomorrow, what do you all think, either steak or braised oxtails?
Pizza has been ingested. ‘Twas good as usual but I have a grievance with Pizza Hut. See, I ordered magic online pizza and went to pick it up. It was supposed to be ready at 4:15. When I got there the teleprompter thingie said my order was bein’ sliced. This was at 4:10. So I paid and I sat there. I sat there some more. I sat still more. Other people that had ordered online came in, got their stuff, and left. Then my name disappeared off the teleprompter thingie. It was now 4:35. I attempted to get the attention of someone and after a good five minutes I did. I asked about my order that was supposed to have been ready at 4:15 and for which I had been waitin’ for almost thirty minutes to get. I also mentioned they had no problem takin’ my money when I first got there. It was in the warmer thingy where stuff is kept until it’s picked up. I just finished givin’ them a piece of my mind via online survey. Probably won’t do any good, but it felt good.
MetalMouse accordin’ to all southern mamas, not makin’ a happy plate is a mortal sin.
sari yay for sah-son and the A!
Sinus remodeling has been survived. Wasn’t as bad as feared. Just a few crunches. Just need to wait for the traumatized tissues to settle down, which is expected to take a couple of days, but I’m breathing through my nose already.
I can also refute any claims that I’m brainless, now that I’ve had an MRI of the noggin this morning. Lots of squiggly gray matter in there.
I’m enjoying the best of the best of Sweet Adelines quartets, while the storm makes its own noise outside. And soon I will be enjoying the Mets taking game one of the NLDS.
Is this hockey or women’s curlin’?
You sure it’s not just old linguini??
I crack me up!
And on that note, I think I’ll recline for a while.
MWAH!!

I’m of German ancestry, so it’s probably old spaetzle.
Irk lived up to its name today so I ate three donuts when I came home. I’ll regret it later but I needed a sugar rush.
I went for an out-&-back trail run on a trail that I had never been on before, it included a number of creek crossings, & two ladders that you had to go up/down to cross said creek. Today’s forecast called for a slight chance of T-boomers.
As I get to the turnaround point, I hear what I think might be some thunder, but I’m in the woods & can’t see the sky & it could also be a truck on the near-by road. On my way back, as I’m crossing one of the creeks again I notice a few small drops rippling in the creek, so slight as to not even be enough to be called a drizzle. Then I hear another rumble. At this point the trail crosses a road, near an open field so I get a good look at the black sky. I run past a private school as it starts to rain & find a porch by their gym to stay dry. Pull out the phone & look to see a multi-colored line, including some red (heavy) precipitation.
The heavens open, & I get a phone call from someone advising me there’s now a  Tornado Watch .
It lets up a bit & I see the first person I’ve see all day is running from where I’d been. Whatdaell, I’m not going to be alone, so I come off the dry porch & back into the woods. I scare the crap out of him as I come up on him; oops, sorry. :o
Then I had a very interesting 1½ miles back to the beginning of the trail. It had rained so much that the middle of the trail was a small stream. Running on the sides kept my feet somewhat dry but of course, muddy slopes are sooo good for traction. Unfortunately, while it would have been a more direct, shorter route & surer footing to come out onto the roads, they are two lanes with no shoulder, which I didn’t feel safe on with the limited visibility of the downpour.
When I got to the interstate underpass, I stopped, removed my wiking shirt & rung it out, probably shedding over two pounds.
Got back to my car, removed my shirt & shoes & socks, found a t-shirt to sit on so I don’t totally soak the seat. I’m barely dressed, & wet, & hot from running, which fogs up the windows, which means I need to put on the defroster/airco. which is not exactly the environment you want to be in when you’re barely dressed & wet. Yeah, it was an interesting battle of see or freeze for the few miles ride home.
Worked, came home ,made Jack Daniels applesauce for tomorrow’s tailgate.
Oh, I’m sure you were on the Dean’s LIST.
of all the German foods to be stuck in your head, that is the wurst.
wiki ,steak. And stop in as often as you like.
Spidey, suck about the storm and the freezin’.
