I think the fact that Sylar was waiting in the room was merely the writers going “Even though he just had the whole bunny scene, we don’t think the audience will realize that Sylar left the bunny unless we show him there waiting.”

Tragic, huh?

There seems to be a certain number of viewers who complain when everything is spelt out for them, and then gripe if they are not shown everything.
