Heroes 1/29 - "The Fix" (SPOILERS)

They’ve been getting weaker ever since he was unable to save Charlie’s life. Last week he managed to slow time way down in the museum, but not stop it altogether like he meant to. This week, he couldn’t do anything. Personally, I think it’s a matter of self-confidence, and doesn’t have anything to do with the sword.

In regards to the Zach is gay/no he isn’t controvery. I really have no problem with them dropping the issue altogether. It skeeves me out a little to think of any15 year old child having a sexuality. Remember Claire saying to her dad that she was almost 16? It would be nice if they could just show two high school age kids without them having to be sexually involved with anyone.

Edit: never mind. Already answered.

[hijack]It’s been a long time since I was 15, but I do remember the hormones turning me inside out. Nothing “skeevy” about it, it’s just nature. And I’m the Girl Next Door, not some freak. [/hijack]

We now return to the discussion of the Best Show on Television…

Making him gay doesn’t mean they’d have to show him hopping in bed with some dude. It’s just an aspect of the character.

I wouldn’t care (the pros and cons balance each other out, IMHO: on the plus side more sympathetic gay characters are always nice and it would mean we could do without the way too obvious relationship with Claire, OTHO the analogy to how Claire is also different would be a bit hamfisted and besides the X-Men films beat them to the punch there), but I am a bit peeved at how his orientation wasn’t the choice of the creative staff, but of NBC’s suits.

Okay, maybe skeeve isn’t the word. I know teenagers have raging hormones and all, but if I wanted to watch a show about teenagers dealing with sexual issues I’d watch Dawson’s Creek type shows. I don’t. I think it would be nice if two teenagers could just be friends.

Agreed whole-heartedly.

It’s bizarre that the suits would care though, isn’t it? Isn’t this the network of Will & Grace? And the parent network of Bravo? What a strange situation.

Hey, if this guy on Men in Trees can have John Amos as a father, anything’s possible.

If you ever capture people who speak in a different language than the one they expect you to speak, don’t reveal you can speak that language just for dramatic effect.

I mean, they might plan their escape in their native language, or discuss some secret that you’d want to know, and you just blew it.

(This has happened on tv and movies at least 200 times)

Yeah, it’s so unrealistic. Who ever heard of a teenage boy interested in sex?

And…this show has two teenagers who are just friends, so I’m completely mystified as to what your objection is to having one or the other of them be gay. I agree that there should be a wide variety of shows in which male and female characters are friends, with no hint of sexual tension between them whatsoever, regardless of the sexuality of the people involved. In this instance, though, it’s extremely irritating that a character who was conceived by the creators as being gay has been straightened by network brass. I have no idea whether the creators intended to make any sort of deal whatsoever about Zach’s sexuality, hamfisted or otherwise, but the way that his sexuality (or other characters’ assumptions about his sexuality) was integrated into the show was I thought very well done as a simple part of the over-arching narrative without its becoming a capital-I ISSUE. The idea that Zach could have some empathy with Claire being different and keeping a secret because he himself has a difference and a secret was quite realistic. And, not to drag out the whole role model thing, how great would it have been for a gay teenager who was feeling upset or isolated about his or her sexuality to be able to see a character like Zach who was facing the same situation and not only dealing with it but having a peer defend him? Shitty move on NBC’s part and quite frankly as far as I’m concerned if the creators of the show say he’s gay I take them at their word more than some she-monkey in a suit shooting out press releases.

Put me firmly into the “AED is Claire’s real father” camp. I don’t think he necessarily has to have super powers. He’s really the only one who makes sense. I don’t think Nathan would care in the slightest about Claire, nor do I think her mom would call Nathan up out of the blue and say “guess who just called me…”

Did anyone else catch a major editing gaff? The van used to search for Hiro in the parking lot was a full sized Ford Econoline. Then when they cut back to them after some ::yawn:: Niki and DL…::yawn::…

…where was I? Oh yes, then they cut back to the van, and it was a completely diferent make and model - a cargo van that isn’t normally driven as a normal van - they’re top heavy and used in commercial businesses. Nothing that Ford makes, although the manufacturer escapes me. And, as they ripped around a corner squealing the wheels <?> there was a bunch of grass caught in the bumper, like they’d been off-road or soemthing. Very annoying.

… then why the bother to “adopt” Claire after her mother faked her death in the fire?

Yeah, I saw that and thought, “wtf?”

re: the straightening of Zach… how’s this for ugly contrivance:

The Haitian guy wants to help Claire out, but knows Zach isn’t going to be hanging around her after the mind wipe. So, he wipes out all of Zach’s memories of being friends with Claire… and all of his understanding that he’s gay… So now Claire’s trying to make friends with him, and he’s about to get really, really conflicted… sort of like Will & Grace in high school, only with super powers.

I love the drama aspects of the show, and think it’s a very good mix of moving the plot forward and looking into how these abilities affect ordinary people. One wants it to go away, one wants to embrace it, another gets in constant troublle, another uses it for his own gain and another wants to save the world. When telepacop was fixing the pipes, I was thinking that they must have planned every aspect of the show beforehand. A trivial soap opera scene, moving that character forward, while we ponder the overall mystery, no need to pad the episodes, which such a rich ensemble of characters, and with new and interesting characters being added. (Eccleston really shines, BTW. Did he get noticed in Hollywood for his one season as the Doctor?).
A lot of people on this board hate the Nikki storyline, but I bet a lot of people in other places love it. Some even seem to think Ali Larter is hawt. I don’t.

There doesn’t seem to be a shortage of hot men on the show. As for hot women, not so many. Claire is adorable and will probably grow up to a nice young woman, and Nathan’s wife is gorgeous. But the regular fems don’t do anything for this 45 y.o. het man. I can see why **Otto ** is panting about Mohinder, though. The man is beautiful.

He seems to talk about God quite often. All religious people aren’t bigots, of course, but it could be a possible motivation for mind-wiping the memory of teh gay out of Zach.

My WAG there is that AED’s been involved with the supers for a while now, accidentally fell in love with Claire’s real mom and had a child and tried to keep it from the bosses, and then the bosses for some reason ordered him to destroy the wife and daughter, but he saved them both in secret, which is why he’s so protective of Claire’s gift, and why Syler is such a threat to him personally.

Or maybe the Q sent a tornado to his house that somehow eluded the weather nets and…

I don’t think it was intentional on the Haitian’s part. But it is known that someone suffering from severe retrograde amnesia will often have different favorite colors or taste in food.

Extrapolate.

It’s disconcerting to me because I know a guy (one of the most technically gorgeous men I’ve known) who is white but has the same features as Mohinder. Rowr.

Personally I think GULP ties for the best line with some of Hiro’s other lines (From previous eps).

I loved “This is how we roll” when Hiro went with Ando.

I don’t think the other guy revealing that he knows Japanese will affect the Hiro and Ando captured plot point.

I liked AEDs “Well that’s less than ideal” when Sylar appeared to have died.

I think Hiro’s losing his abillity is a self confidence issue. The Sword/Katana is only a placebo item. I’m still holding out for when he gets the sword proper, and starts speaking english with out an accent, and frankly, starts kicking booty and taking names.

Anyone else go to the Primatech website? And not primetech like I did? :smack:
Apparently NBC is feeding a LOT of clues to those who look for them.
I think NBC is losing eyeballs to 24. As it is now, I watch 24 and tape Heroes. (Rating’s dont transfer for time shifted programing)

What on earth is Doppleskanker doing? The Doc was like “We can put you back in the restraints if you’d like” …Darn no bondage Jessica fanservice. :dubious: And isnt MorphDad (What nick for micahs father?) putting himself at risk of winding up in some secure facility doing what hes doing? (Not that anything can hold him, but still)

I doubt Micah will face trouble for the ATMs. It showed that the money was taken out after PIN and after he designated/mind punched 500.00 dollars. I think that while he IS doing something wrong, he’s making it look ‘right’ to the point that there is really no proof. What would the camera show?

Anyone else put off by the fact that Claire can remember her ability, and that she knows Zack, but seems to be selective elsewhere?
