Yes, apparently this episode’s title is the same as the entire season’s chapter title. And per previews, it seems to be this season’s flashback episode.
Dynasty flashback.
And the title wasn’t heroes this time. It was “Villains”.
Now, was there a weird shape over the eclipse when the title appeared, or was that just me?
So…Hiro is seeing all this?
I thought Pirelli daddy was dead befire the show started now he’s part of the timeline?
This is before-before.
Can’t he have been dead and alive before the show started???
Even though it’s only one year ago, I guess it’s before season one. I’m a bit confused about Heroes’ timeline.
I’m confused about everything at this point. I can’t believe they are further retconning Sylar to give him more pity.
If season 1 was Oct-Nov 2006, season 2 was 4 months after that, that was about another month’s worth, Matt said it was a week since Nathan got shot-so about April 07?
OK, this is not a show where black people can be safe! Run, Knox, RUUUUNNNN!
That ending was pretty gruesome.
And now I think I may have an idea who may be Sylar’s baby momma in the future.
Goodbye, Magical Negro Friend. We hardly knew ye. Nor wanted to, really.
Sheesh. They’re really one-upping themselves, aren’t they? Sylar may chop off the top of people’s heads – but daddy makes heads explode! Woo.
Although Elle got some interesting development, the Elle-Gabriel backstory came off like a retcon of the worst sort. I guess they are bringing comic book tropes to tv!
Everything else, rather meh. Could’ve handled all that mess with a few quick flashbacks, and actually moved the story forward. Nice to see them bring back the various dead guys, though, and of course all the internet “fans” howling that Hiro was too powerful, too, got fanserviced at the end. That’s something. I suppose.
I don’t think that it was “retconning” to show Sylar in that state; if you watch season 1’s episodes that show “early Sylar” he is clearly confused, scared, and wanting to be somewhat decent, prior to him giving in to the Hunger. Showing this side of him also helps sell the idea that there is in fact something redeemable in Sylar. When he’s giving in the the Hunger, he’s horrifyingly evil, when he’s successful in fighting it he’s full of self-doubt and guilt. Seems consistent to me.
One other thing I was thinking about, in re: Sylar’s powers. The writers confirmed that he had his powers “wiped clean” except the “Figure stuff out” and “TK” powers, but Candice/Michelle (prior to being brained by Sylar) had told him that, in time, and her help, he would be able to regain ALL of his powers. So maybe that future where he goes nuclear doesn’t require him to find another Nuclear Ted, maybe he just finds the way to regain those powers from before.
Also from season 1, the series doesn’t start out with Arthur presumed dead; remember that there was a bit of an argument between Nathan and Peter about pursuing the Linderman case because it would drag their father down as well; on the day that Peter is all ready to testify against his own father, Nathan shows up at his apartment to tell Peter that their dad has just died from a heart attack.
Not quite sure if and when Sylar ever used Gothboy’s ability. What was he doing there? Mind bullets? Making the glass rapidly expand? Can’t tell from the scenes.
I’m a little hazy on exactly which powers Sylar has pulled out of people, but I’m wondering something here, particularly since he didn’t notice Elle had a power–does his power only work on people who developed their powers naturally, and he can’t notice people who had them implanted, like the Petrelli boys and Elle?
I meant retcon in that Gabriel and Elle had a fairly close association before, not that he was wavering on the edge of becoming Sylar. Their relationship wasn’t something we’d really seen any evidence of, before. Hence, retcon.
Either that, or Superboy punched time.
Hmmm…either that or he later gains the power to “read” minds and can detect powers accurately.
I’m not sure. I doubt the writers are either.
I think he just becomes more sensitive to the presence of those with powers later; in the future scene where Knox shows up, Sylar seems to sense his power, but it’s not clear if that’s because he can sense it through his innate power or if maybe one of the other powers he’s picked up enable him to do so.
I’m wondering…at that point, Sylar was basically a watch-repairman in New York, right? And he had a list of maybe a dozen names of others with powers.
If it’s a list of special people he just happened to run into in a fairly short life…man, there must be an awful lot of special people around.
The implication with the Petrellis was that Peter’s power was natural, I thought.
They didn’t ever say Elle’s powers were artificial, though they said (last season) that she was “trained” (read, “tortured”) to test and enhance them.
It was a bit startling to see Elle with a conscience so recently - in most of Season 2, she was definitely shown to be a sociopath (while at the same time seeking Daddy’s approval).
I had a tough time seeing Linderman as having a conscience. Typo Knig suggested that maybe Linderman was plotting all along and just appearing to have a conscience.
He got the list from the apartment of Chandra Suresh, Mohinder’s father. Chandra had been trying to track down various others with abilities. It’s all in season 1.
Here’s a fanwank explanation; HRG decided that Elle was just not working out as an agent, what with having a conscience,so he recruited his new partner, the Haitian, to mindwipe her a bit to make her less of a nuisance. We’ve seen that the mindwipes can have unpleasant side effects before, so maybe as a result she regressed a bit emotionally.
