Heroes 11/12/07 - "Four Months Ago" (SPOILERS)

I would encourage anyone to watch WM but you might prefer the DVD of Reefer Madness if you like the angel-pornstar-psychobitch combo.

One more thing about Elle. In this episode there was no mention of Bob being her father, even though there was plenty of oppurtunity. I think her father is someone else and she is playing for more than one team.

Well, if Peter was really her first, that won’t help at all to clear up what team she’s on. Poor thing.

The thing that annoyed me with Elle – “Elle”, “Lightning Lass”? that can’t be coincidence – is that she needed to be smacked upside the head, and no one did so. I think the performance would’ve come across a bit more naturally if the social situation they were portraying was written a bit more naturally. No matter how passive Peter is, he should have reacted to her being a bitch. And Bob was pretty noncommittal other than his “he’s not a toy” comment.

I was a bit annoyed that we got no Sylar/Candice flashback stuff. I’d sure have like to know how he got from the NY sewer to a shack in the jungle.

For that matter, it would have been nice to have a few moments devoted to how Matt’s marriage fell apart. Sure would have been more interesting than yet another “Oh, no, I’ve killed them all!” scene with Maya and Alejandro. Sure, it was supposedly the first time, but we’ve already seen it. And seen it. And seen it.

I’m not sure why Angela Petrelli would want her son to lose his family. Even without a persuasive power, she was definitely making up a story to drive Nathan’s wife away. I know she’s going to remain opaque, but I really would like to know her reasoning for some of the crap she pulls.

One out-of-left-field observation: I’ve been watching the season 1 DVDs, and in one of the deleted scenes Claire says something to Lyle about both them being adopted. So we can expect Lyle to be another kid left orphaned by a Company screwup, I guess. I’ll bet he’ll start showing powers in season 3. Hopefully, his actor will have gained some skills by that point, assuming his almost total lack of lines is due to his so-so acting.

Given the ratings drop of this season, and the fact that we may not get part two of this year because of the strike, I think we’ll be lucky to get a season 3.

Who is Dale? Somebody remind me…

Gal with Super Hearing, had to listen to rap music really loud to calm herself. Sylar brained her.

Dale had the hearing, until she was de-skulled.

Never mind. Superhearing woman.

I have been wrong before. No really, I have. But I don’t think there is any danger of of the show being cancelled. There has been a drop off but NBC is still treating it like it’s a cornerstone of their lineup. They are still promoting the hell out of it. There are only three episode left. If they have lost confidence in it the show would have been shuffled off to Saturday to die a quiet death. I am hopeful after reading comments from Tim Kring that he has learned from the mistakes of this season and will come out strong after the strike.

Although if the strike goes on for a long time I don’t know what the hell will happen with any show.

We already know that Candice used her illusion powers to conceal Sylar’s removal from Kirby Plaza and that the Company was involved. I don’t really care about the precise mechanism she used to get him to the shack.

Something that hasn’t been tuched on yet. The Haitian took his Helix necklace and gave it to Peter. Similar to how someone might give a St Christopher medal or (in Dracula) a crucifix. Combining that with his reverent kiss of the necklace from S1 and it looks like they’re making overt allusions that something connected with the symbol is a cult. I’d be interested in seeing if they pursue that angle.

I thought it was well established, however scientifically illogical, that the trigger for powers was a solar eclipse.

Every time there’s a total solar eclipse, people who hitherto did not show evidence of having powers, started to have them manifest.

Genetically there’s more likelihood of them existing if you have a parent with a power, so you can predict who might have one or not, but when and where they appear seems to be connected with the eclipse.

Well, see, that’s what concerns me. I don’t know what the ratings were for last night. If they were high, and remain high for the rest of the half-season, I think then that if the strike goes on long enough that the network has to write off the rest of the year, Heroes will be in good stead for next fall.

If last night did not pick up and the next three episodes fare no better, then in the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately atmosphere of Hollywood, I’d say by the time the strike dust settles, NBC will choose to cast its lot with another cornerstone candidate.

And what if, after all the time has gone by, key members of the main cast have decided to move on to greener pastures?

Unfortunately, Kring & Co,'s bad judgment may ultimately bite them in the ass.

Hmmm, the hamsters seem to have eaten an earlier plot-related post of mine…

They needed DL to die the way he did, because it directly related to Niki’s unwillingness/inability to deal with her MPD on her own. They wanted to explain why she was so eager to dump off Micah and go pro-Company in episode 1 of this season.

It occurs to me, rather late, that the Haitian (does that guy have a name?) could have taken care of everything in New York at the end of Season One. Could have walked up to Sylar and put a bullet through his head, and also kept Peter from blowin’ up.

Thing is, with the strike all the pastures are pretty brown right now. No place for them to move off to.

And of course Hiro could have just gone back in time killing pre-powered people - Ted, Sylar, Linderman… Or, he could have gone back in time and told Peter exactly what to do and what not to do rather than be all mysterious about it.

How did the Haitian get sick between then and the season opener?

We don’t know that there was an eclipse during the Superfriends generation. And Kring has said that the eclipse was thrown in just because it was cool, not because it was relevant.

Did he say that before he had another eclipse in Feudal Japan in this season’s first episode?
