Heroes 11/12/07 - "Four Months Ago" (SPOILERS)

IIRC, he said that during the eclipse in Feudal Japan in last season’s final episode.

Why do people think Uhura isn’t special? Why would they cast Nichelle Nichols if she weren’t special? She didn’t appear to recognize Bob? So? this is a comic book and there can be innumerable secret groups, or even lone agents. Powers run in families. She’s got three, count 'em, three super powered descendants. Duh!

Do we know for sure who the Haitian is loyal to? Hey, maybe he’s somehow connected to Uhura.

Mama Petrelli’s totally got the power of persuasion. Why are we still wondering about that?

Niki: Die already. Obviously they’re never going to figure out what to do with you. Just die and let Micah have some adventures with the cool side of the family (minus retarded play-with-medal-boy).

Maya & bro: See above. You’re wasting my time and you’re not ever going to do anything until the season finale, whenever that is, and it’ll be disappointing and pointless and stupid so just die now. More Sylar please.

Elle: Can’t stand her. She can die too. Please let her die. A lot.

Adam: You know, he did say “let’s save the world.” He’s not automatically bad, just because he cursed Hiro 400 years ago and it’s confirmed, he’s been around 400 years. Some of the other heroes or the original founders of the Company could be screwing things up Adam is genuinely trying to fix. Dude’s got perspective. Tell me he doesn’t.

The eclipse is obviously tied to the emergence of abilities. It really chaps my ass when producers come back later and go “oh, that. Nah, it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it. We just thought it looked cool.”

Okay, all for now.

Because she’s a good actress who suits the character? Being on Star Trek doesn’t make her particularly important.

No, it’s not. The ‘Six Months Ago’ episode from the first season made it clear several of the heroes had powers before the eclipse from the first episode (Eden, Charlie, Sylar, the telekinesis guy Sylar killed.)

In a previous thread we were discussing the group photo and speculated that one of the woman in it was a younger Uhura. My point was that since she didn’t seem to recognize Bob in this weeks episode, it suggests that she doesn’t know him and therefore wasn’t the woman in the photograph.

Or she’s been visited by the Haitian.

She has one, count her, one known superpowered descendant. Neither DL nor Micah is her descendant.

Because if she does have the power of persuasion she’s amazingly sucky at it.

Why do you think people think that Uhura isn’t special? All everyone has been saying is that Uhura wasn’t one of the Superfriends that formed the Company. She’s not in the photo, and she didn’t do a double-take when Bob walked by her. She’s probably going to be just as important a character as Kaito was/is (i.e., significant, but minor).

Yes. His Haitan accent sounds just like Uhura’s New Orleans one. I’m sure that’s it.

Because she didn’t actually persuade anyone with it until now? Every time – every time – she tried to persuade Nathan to do what she wanted last season, he’d end up going off and doing what he wanted to do, despite her.

Not much of a superpower if she can only persuade them for a few minutes.

I suggest lotion for your ass, then. You’re going to need it.

Not if she wasn’t supposed to show that she knows him. Wouldn’t Niki and the rest of her family wonder and ask questions if she showed she recognized him and said “hi, Bob”? Maybe she had some memories wiped by the Haitian? There’s possible explanations for her not recognizing him without fanwanking too much, so don’t write off the possibility just yet.

Although she’s probably not the woman in the photograph. :stuck_out_tongue:
The solar eclipses. It’s been covered, they were nothing more than bookends for the first season. Yeah, it’s annoying and misleading but I got over it. Let’s move on.

I was just wondering: Can Peter absorb any of Syler’s abilities, or does it have to be something innate?

Hey, maybe she has the power of anti-persuasion and she’s been working some huge reversal the whole time!

Yeah, I got nothin’.

Nah, they’d just drink.

He can absorb anything Sylar has, which is how Peter got telekinesis. Which also means Peter has freezing powers, super-hearing, super-melting and the power to “know how things work” (Sylar’s original power).

I’m hoping she’s just not very good at personal space issues, and despite her constantly feeling everyone up, she actually has a for-real superpower that does something. Like… maybe she has keen anti-lint powers, and she’s running her hands all over people because she’s noticed that their sweaters have pilled. And stuff.

There’s also the possibility that Angela’s powers of persuasion work better on non-supers or it’s just not that strong or the power has weakened over the years. One would wonder why she didn’t persuade herself out of last season’s shoplifting charge but it’s possible that she wasn’t able to get her hands on the security guard or cops and she needs to touch to persuade. Maybe the Petrelli boys have become immune after having been exposed to it for a long time. “Peter eat your brussel sprouts arm squeeze”. “Okay … wait. No, I don’t wanna!” “Dammit!”

I know that. We all know that. But they sure made it look like there was a connection and they never said anything about it in the show. The producer mentioned it outside of the show. Ron Moore did that with the BSG ep “33.” Whatever. I’m not actually losing sleep over it.

Oh, my bad then. Guess I’m not keeping up this season. I assumed she was DL’s mom, and Micah’s and the other girls grandmom. What is she to them, then? An aunt or something? Is she blood related to them?

Maybe, maybe not. Persuasion, they way she uses it, is a stealth power you don’t want to swing around willy-nilly. Use it too much, you get noticed. People could develop immunity. We know Haitian’s power causes brain damage if used too much on one person, repeatedly. If she used it on Peter & Nathan on a regular basis who’s to say that doesn’t lead to personality problems or something? She didn’t persuade her way out of the shoplifting charge because she was seeking attention and thrill and it’s probably too risky to try and persuade your way out of something you’ve been caught red-handed at and there are possibly a dozen people who are going to need persuading and eventually someone’s going to wonder, “tell me again, why did we let that lady go?”

What’s that supposed to mean? Angela spoke French with Haitian. They don’t have similar accents; they learned their respective French in different places. Yet they’re connected. Maybe I’ve read too many Anne Rice novels but it’s easy for me to imagine DL’s family being old, with mysterious French speaking roots going back who knows how far, and from where? Sometimes Haitian is loyal to the company, sometimes to Noah, and sometimes seems to be following a different agenda. Why did he attempt to give Peter a new life? Was that Noah’s plan? It sure wasn’t the company’s.

She’s DL’s aunt, grandmother to Micah’s cousins, who are really first-cousins-once-removed. It was the now dead mother who was Micah’s first cousin, but rather than bore and confuse people with a genealogy lesson in every episode they’re just going simple and southern: they’re all cousins.

We met DL’s mother last season. Uhura is I the mother of Monica and the Cretin (no idea what his name is, don’t care) and is Micah’s aunt (DL’s mother’s sister most likely).

Veronica Mars is great & I recommend it highly.

But, for more of Kristen Bell’s “angelic face, body of a pornstar, psycho bitch”–check out the first season of Deadwood. She makes a memorable appearance in two episodes.

If she is DL’s aunt, then Monica’s mother is DL’s first cousin, not Micah’s, and Micah and Monica are second cousins. And some of us yankees just call them cousins too.

“Nana” Dawson (Nichelle Nichols’ character) has the same last name as Monica and Damon. Does this mean that they are her son’s children, or their mother was a single mother? The option of her not being related to DL doesn’t work, since then she would not be Micah’s great-aunt. Since apparently DL and their mother were cousins, she was a single mother. Do they actually say that DL is related to their mother? I can’t remember.

Nitpick: Second cousins. They share a great-grandparent.
