Heroes 11/12/07 - "Four Months Ago" (SPOILERS)

The obvious answer for the thick beard is that Nathan has a second power, animal magnetism, and this caused a small furry creature, possibly a marmoset, to snuggle up on his chin and drape itself from ear to ear. Once Nathan snapped out of his funk he removed the creature and set it free in the park, but they still keep in touch.

The other possibility is that Mr. Muggles sent one of his furry minions to keep an eye on Nathan. Nathan didn’t really mind because it kept his chin warm but eventually he had to send it on it’s way because it was starting to smell bad.

[sub] It’s just a beard, stop obsessing! :stuck_out_tongue: [/sub]

I’m just screwing around. I don’t know why but I’m fascinated by unrealistic beards in TV and movies.

And part of me was hoping someone would take the Kensei remark and run with some really crazy theory.

This is from the link in scotandrsn’s post.

Claire’s relationship with Angela is only just beginning. There’s a lot in store for these two this season. And the secret family history of the Petrelli’s will become known.

Finally we will have some insight into the Petrelli clan. I’m happy now.

Well, I am happy to hear that you didn’t find my marmoset theory to be really crazy.

True, though even stupid assholes tend to back off when informed “that’s my wife.” Maybe he was just stoned out of his mind on party drugs.

Careful man, spoilers! You’ll put somebody’s eye out with those things.

I’ve reported the post, so hopefully a mod will be along shortly to spare the rest.

In the ad I saw the voice-over said,something about Hiro saving his father while they showed a shot of George Takei.

Well, it’s easy to check for marmosets, but not so easy to verify if Kensei’s blood caused anything else to grow. Maybe the writers need to start stripping Adrian down just like they make Milo do?

Mea culpa. I had forgotten how thick it was. That’s at least a two month growth for me.

Don’t forget the power of a gut punch on Stupid.

I didn’t think anything in that post was a spoiler which is why I didn’t spoiler it.

I apologize to all the ocular organs out there.

Thanks for the apology, but anything that hasn’t appeared in a real, live episode is a spoiler. That’s the very definition of a spoiler. And your post includes stuff that hasn’t been aired.

Ok, that makes sense. I wasn’t as clear on the definition. :smack: But now I know and all such info in the future will be spoilerized.

More tanatlizing spoilers from Behind the Eclipse

From Week 1’s episode:

Hiro’s father says “There are nine” - was he referring to the group the parents were all part of? Are “the nine” still alive? And we always assumed Mr. Nakamura had powers, but he seemed awfully easy to kill. Were we mistaken?

Mr. Nakamura had powers, but easy to kill? Maybe you didn’t look at the crime scene hard enough.

Claire’s new classmate West can fly. This brings up an interesting question about the heroes - can two different people have identical powers? And going back to Neal’s theory above, does this necessarily indicate a genetic link? Are Claire and the classmate going to end up being the Luke and Leia of "Heroes?"

First off, Ew. And no, similar powers do not mean a genetic link. We’ve seen that the existence of powers may be something passed on, but the powers themselves are a crapshoot of sorts. For example, phase-man + strength-girl = talks to machines. We hit a crossroads as we stared populating our universe with more characters. To duplicate powers or not to duplicate powers. The thing we loved about duplication of powers was that it spoke to character more purely. If Claire can regenerate – does that define her character – or does it come from her heart? The best way to explore that is to find someone else who can regenerate. (So, keep an eye out for that person.)

<snip>

In the opening introduction montage, while Suresh is talking about how “they” are among us we get our first glimpses of Maya and her brother but we also see a black woman. What can you tell us about the character and her powers?

We can tell you to keep watching. She shows up soon enough.

From week 2:

Rolando Ramon attempts to connect the generational dots. "Could Kensei be an ancestor of Nathan and Peter as well as Claire, since he seems to have the same power as Claire? Not to mention that Mrs. Petrelli said his symbol is the same one used for her husbands law firm."

Hmm…

"The woman who was taken down by Maya was revived by Alejandro’s powers - was it simply that she hadn’t quite die yet? Is there a time limit to Alejandro’s powers, i.e. after so many minutes, he can’t save them?

Yes. Simply, she hadn’t died yet. Once people die, all Alejandro can do is pray and grab a shovel.

<snip>

Our mysterious assailant seemed to be able to turn invisible, much like fan favorite character Claude. Claude had noted when meeting Peter that he had seen some others with his ability. Might our mystery villain indeed be someone Claude had trained before? Could Claude be the Obi-Wan archetype, having trained someone who eventually went bad?

When did our assailant turn invisible? Are you sure he didn’t fly?

Noah said that Isaac’s paintings always come true, but we know that at least one did not - the explosion in NYC. Does this mean events in the paintings only happen as long as Hiro doesn’t mess with the time stream? Or is Isaac’s precognitive ability now always right?

The first one.

From week 3:

**Julia from Pennsylvania thinks she’s figured out Peter’s abilities. “This last episode got me thinking about how Peter’s power might work. After Peter pinned Will to the wall, hegot a disturbing look in his eyes ALA Sylar. While using powers absorbed from Sylar, he began to act like Sylar. Is it possible that along with absorbing the powers of others, he could also be absorbing their skills with those powers as well as their personalities? When using telekinesis, maybe he gets Sylar’s bloodlust. When tapping into Isaac’s power, he also taps into Isaac’s skill as a painter. Am I on to something?”

Does Julia get the Dark Knight Detective award of the week?**

Julia is tapping into something very close to what we want to do with Peter – so she’s a bit of an empath herself.

<snip>

Jason wants to know about West’s abilities. “Does West have enhanced strength as well as the ability to fly? It seems to me it’d be hard for him to pick Claire up and fly around with her long before his arms tired out and he dropped her. I guess if he did she’d survive, but that couldn’t be good for their relationship.” Dropping your new girlfriend from 10,000 feet would probably be bad. Guys?

Hayden weighs like 5 pounds. In fact, in episode 9
, West will actually utter the line “I don’t have super strength.”
Marti likes the addition of Kensei and wants to know, "Is Kensei a kind of prime hero? He can heal, but can he do other stuff as well? Is it possible for one man to spawn an entire world full of heroes?"

That’s a great question. We’re not going to answer it.

<snip>

Okay, help us out here because we may be a little confused. Bob is part of the Company, which you’ve indicated Primatech was also a part of, unless we’re remembering wrong. If that’s the case, why would they trust Mohinder, knowing that he was part of the reason Molly was taken from them?

For starters, what went down that last day may have died with Thompson and Linderman. For seconds, you’re assuming no factions within the company. And for thirdingons, stay tuned.

From Week 4:

This week, we start with Mike Davis who wants more info on Kensei. "Tim Kring told ‘Entertainment Weekly’ that Takezo Kensei has powers and when they are revealed it would have ramifications on the entire Heroes universe. But in ‘Lizards’ it only showed he could regenerate. Are we going to learn more about his abilities, because it doesn’t sound like regeneration is his only ability."

His only ability? It used to be someone recovering from a bunch of arrows shot in his chest was something special. Suffice it to say – the story of Horo and Takezo isn’t over by a longshot – lots of twists to come.

Diego De Lose Reyes wants to know more about the death of someone from season one. "Now that we’re learning about the virus that affects the heroes, could this be the reason why Charles Deveaux died? Will his death be explored further and the mystery surrounding it revealed?"

Diego – you are certainly paying attention to a lot of the details that we’ve been laying in from the pilot. Good on ya. And we have not seen the last of Charles Deveaux (although he is dead).

<snip>

Suzette wants to know more about the Petrelli’s and their extended family. "Are Peter, Claire and Nathan going to start interacting with each other again? I love the chemistry between these characters and it feels like there has not been a lot of time to explore them together as a family."

We love our Petrelli clan too Suzette – there are lots of plans for a big reunion, but they’re going to occur in a way that you will never see coming. Wait for it.

<snip>

OK, the eerily named 2012 writes in with a possible theory on how the powers work for our heroes. "According to Dr. Suresh, the heroes are a different species, whose powers are made possible by three different genes. But there have also been many clues telling us that the heroes powers are controlled by their brain (specifically their brain stem). But Peter says that he uses his powers by remembering how people made him feel; plus the activating evolution site says that genes have emotional plasticity. Since we’ve already seen characters with the same powers and different personalities, and Peter has to feel in order to use a power, a character’s powers seems to be tied with both their genes and their personalities. Maybe it’s more of a a general psychic gene and their personalities determine what their power actually is?"

2012 –-first of all, kudos for you for using the term “emotional plasticity.” Second of all, there is a definite link between the power and the personality – people seem to get abilities that they need. We’ve always believed it’s a part of natural selection, but who knows?

<snip>

As you probably expected, that photo generated a lot of questions this week. Jmacq1 has a few more for ya. "With the exception of Matt’s father, the only other previously unseen character on the photograph that was clearly visible was the woman standing next to him (with the scar on her cheek). Is that simply a by-product of how the photo was framed, or is it significant that hers is the only other ‘new’ face we clearly see (more than once, at that)?"

The woman with the scar on her face will have a significant effect on the rest of the season.

I think we’re going to eagerly wait for that! Another on the picture from KevinInChains, "Is it significant that Mr. Petrelli wasn’t looking forward in the picture like everyone else?"

Yes.

<snip>

I lied, one more photo question from “Shadow Guy!” Ohhh, spooky! "Is that Joanna Cassidy standing next to Matt’s father? I hope so. She’s awesome. I hadn’t heard that she was joining the cast, but would be happy if she did."

Good eye, Shadow Guy – that is indeed Joanna Cassidy. You’ll meet her character before the end of the year.

Excellent. Alright, moving on we’ve got Jim Loder who also has some questions about the family Petrelli. "With the New York media being what it is, wouldn’t the mother of a former congressman - one who mysteriously disappeared, and now roams the streets as a drunk who lost his family - being held on suspicion of murder be a front page story? Even Matt Parkman acts as if the Petrelli name is unfamiliar, and he had telepathic conversations with Peter Petrelli about Sylar. Could the Haitian have removed everyone’s memory of the Petrelli family, including Nathan’s run for Congress?"

There’s also not a lot of talk about a large explosion that happened over the New York skyline. How did that happen? I hope we learn soon.

Dave Rich has two questions – one a funny, one a bit more serious. " So in ‘Four Months Later,’ Lyndsy Fonseca was briefly seen as a cheerleader at CVHS.According to spoilers, she was to be called ‘April,’ and then Lyndsy got a gig on 'Desperate Housewives.'So now we’ve got Janel Parrish playing a new cheerleader called 'May.'Is it safe to assume that if Janel gets another job, we’ll get one called 'June?'

June appears in Episode 9. I kid you not. Julie and Augustus (Costa Verde’s first male cheerleader) have yet to be cast.

"On a slightly more serious note, spoilers reported that April was going to be a lesbian.Will we see some of her story transfer to May?It’d be nice to see some GLBT characters in this very diverse cast."

That was the intention, but when we lost the actress to “Desperate Housewives” unfortunately the storyline kind of took a back seat. We’re still looking for a way to get it back in this season.

G.B. wants to dig deeper regarding one of your earlier answers in BTE, " In your third week of questions the following came up, ‘In fact, in episode 9
, West will actually utter the line ‘I don’t have super strength.’
’ Does this mean he does have more than one power, just that super strength isn’t one?"

No, it simply means that he doesn’t have super strength. Just the flying. There’s a lot of people who want our heroes to have more than one power. When did this trend start?

<snip>

Now, with Monica having powers, this would indicate that the powers gene is strong on DL’s side. So depending on how Monica and Micah are related (DL was siblings with Monica’s mother/father?), there almost has to be powers somewhere else on that side of the family. Nana Uhura?

All we can think of now is of Yoda saying, “Strong is the powers gene on DL’s side it is.” Thanks for that. Nana? A super? Doubtful, but you never know — we could just be trying to lead you astray because a lot of this weeks questions are just too damned close.

From Week 5:

Lady Vincira starts us off this week and wants to know more about Sylar’s lineage. "Loving Season 2 so far! You lot are awesome. This season, we’re hearing about Papa Petrelli, Papa Parkman, Papa Suresh, of course - seems like a lot of daddies! My question is - will we get to hear more about Papa GRAY? Sylar almost seemed a little regretful in that car, using his real name, and I believe you did mention going back to that “confessional” in the closet. Is dear Gabriel’s daddy going to make an appearance to throw another wrench in Sylar’s clockwork? This IS ‘Generations’…"

Sylar’s clockwork – very clever, Vincira. Very clever indeed. There are a lot of secrets that will be revealed about the previous generation, but they don’t currently include meeting Papa Gray. That mystery will just have to wait.

DL Furman observed something about the photo that no one else brought up. "Okay, the people in the photo have mostly been identified except one – who took the actual photo? Or was the camera on a timer? If there was a photographer (in the context of the story), does he/she have a power?"

Or – maybe it was one of their children! I think the more interesting question that no one has asked is why did they gather to meet on the Deveaux roof that night? What was so important that they had to get together? We’ll let you stew on that.

<snip>

Kyle has a question about the creepy-crawly things that occasionally show up in “Heroes.” "There were a lot of rumors that the cockroaches were related to an as yet-unseen new villain. Could this still play out, or are they really more symbolic representations of evolutionary survival?"

Sometimes symbolic representations of evolutionary survival is just symbolic representations of evolutionary survival. Although, you’ll have to remind us one day to tell you the original pitch for the character of Nathan….

<snip>

The scene with Parkman talking with his ex-wife was harsh. Can we expect a “real life” face-to-face meeting with her sometime this season?

Nothing planned in the near future. But, Matt’s said that the baby is not his, but in Episode 120, “Five Years Gone” – Matt’s protecting a boy, his son. Same child? Different? You guys think about it.

<snip>

More and more, we seem to be witnessing the duplication of powers this season: Nathan and West, Claire and Takezo, Matt and his Dad. Is this just multiple coincidences? Or is this notion leading somewhere later on down the line?

Nothing is coincidence.

From Week 6:

Pauul from the UK (yup, two U’s) writes, “Noah Bennet seems to believe the eight paintings which he has an interest in are the last of Isaac’s pictures to portray events which have yet to come to pass. Is he right? Or could there be other pictures out there - maybe in a sketch book somewhere? Artists are known to doodle quite a bit.”

Artists do doodle. There might be other sketchbooks - or maybe even the early works of Issac Mendez that have yet to be seen. HRG is interested in these pictures because they lead to his own death.

Emily wants to know if one of the heroes was trying to take over her computer. “I was looking at the videos of the history of Takezo Kensei and when I finished watching them something popped up on my computer that said something like,‘O need to show you more… follow me. click here.’ I didn’t click on it because there’s so many pop ups these days. Should I have clicked on it?” Did she miss an opportunity to find the answer to all the mysteries of the “Heroes” universe in one fell swoop?

It may have been Hana Gitelman - reaching out to curious fans - trying to give them new information. I’d trust her – unless she tries to sell you Viagra.

<snip>

Paul E. Sylar from Virginia knows you can’t tell him how Sylar gets his powers, but still asks, “Last year it was stated in an interview that the second season will reveal finally how Sylar takes abilities from people, is that still on track to happen? Any clues on when it might be revealed?”

It will hopefully be revealed by the end of the year. At this point a lot is out of our control. Zach Quinto’s schedule and the strike are playing havoc with our season.

Alex Rangy has a question about a painting. “The sixth painting of the series of eight showed Hiro crossing swords with Kensei. But, hasn’t it been said that Isaac could only paint the future? So, based on that, can we assume we’ll meet Kensei along with Hiro in present time?” Well, we know you can’t assume anything about “Heroes,” but that is an interesting observation. Guys?

One way of thinking about it is that Isaac was painting Hiro’s future - even though it took place in the past. Did we just blow your mind?

Arbe asks about the mysterious killer in Season 2. “Looking at an enhancement of the Killer of the Twelve we see that the person is a white male, youngish looking, with no facial hair. Was this the actual Killer or was a stand-in used?”

Actual Killer?

Actual killer. You’ll see it again in Episode 9. Coming soon.

<snip>

One of the first programming casualties of the writer’s strike seems to be the cancellation of “Heroes: Origins.” We assume there’s always a chance for it to come back, but can you give us an idea what the status is? If the strike were to be settled quickly, does “Origins” still have a chance, or does everything change with a strike? What if the strike were to last weeks, like the one 20+ years ago?

The strike is very serious for all of the writers and creators of the show. It’s made us adjust some stories for Heroes and has now led to the cancellation of “Origins.” This is a watershed moment for the entire entertainment industry and the writers are falling on the front lines.

No more of these columns until after the writer’s strike is concluded.

Yikes, all that black! scotandrsn, while I appreciate you posting all that spoilery info, I think it’s something probably best in another thread. It doesn’t really bear on this episode, and any discussion of it in this thread is of necessity going to have to be blacked-out as spoilers, too. That would really put a crimp in the discussion.

Maybe re-post in another thread with a spoiler warning in the title? (or can mods move individual posts into new threads?)

Wait, so you’re saying someone might be on drugs? At a club? In Los Angeles? No way, that would never happen.
