Heroes 11/12/07 - "Four Months Ago" (SPOILERS)

Wasn’t he shot in the shoulder? My memory is fuzzy, but I thought he got hit, then phased.

My apologies, I responded to the post before seeing the ones that came after it.

Jessica had the sniper rifle and hit him in the shoulder with her first shot. Her second shot hit the car and her third shot would have been a kill shot to the head but DL phased. She was several hundred feet away and DL was unable to respond fast enough to the sound of the shot to phase, so at a range of three inches there’s no way. People are clinging to false hope on the basis of not seeing the body, but this is still after all a prime time American TV show. There’s only so much gore they’re going to show and the gore of a point blank shot to the body is likely past what S&P is going to allow. We’re lucky we get the largely bloodless decapitations.

Call me a pedant, but I took that line to mean “I can’t do anything… to stop myself from exploding.” Enough other people I’ve talked to or read online seem to be confused as well that I’m glad they put it in there.

When I say “seeing the body,” I mean a dead body either lying on the ground or at the funeral or on a slab at the morgue. I don’t need the blood and the giblets and the intestines spilling out to signal “dead,” I just need someone saying “yup, he’s dead.”

Plus, DL just survived a shot to the gut not a few months ago. I realize the man is not indestructible, but “we didn’t show the body so we can resurrect him if need be” is a tried-and-true Hollywood convention.

Sorry, I reread your original post now under the influence of caffeine, and realize I misinterpreted you the first time.

Coffee is a wonderful drug.

This may have been mentioned in a previous thread, but in addition to the blog of Heroes’ producing director Greg Beeman, there’s also a regular feature on the site Comic Book Resources called Behind the Eclipse, where two of the producing writers for the show answer fan questions. Some good clarifying stuff. I’ve linked to the last one they did before the strike, which was episode six, and it has links at the bottom to the entries for the other weeks from this season.

DL will be back - all they have to do is inject him with ‘super healing’ blood from Kensie (or Peter or Clair)…

Not sure about blood from Peter. Healing was not an innate power of his.

Also, how would super healing blood work on a long dead corpse pumped full of embalming fluid. I think they’d have better luck bringing DL back by pumping him full of Worcestershire sauce.

mmm…Worcestershire sauce…

Well, Claire was in mid autopsy when a ‘stick’ was removed from the brain, she’s none the worse for wear… I will assume that even embalming doesn’t replace the bone marrow (that produces real blood).

And all I’m really saying is that the new ‘super blood’ is a bad writers escape (much like time travel, etc…) - it’s not a real theory, just something they ‘can’ do.

(As for Peter’s Power of Absorbing Powers, it’s not a stretch that he will be able to learn the full extent of the power absorbed, the real problem is Peter figuring out what he does/doesnt know how to do)

Speaking of which, they did show her innards when she was filleted and supine. Surely a gut wound from a handgun would be less gory than that.

They process her voice in a similar but much milder way than they did with Eden. I have the impression of remembering subtle video cues too, but I can’t remember anything specific.

Well, it’d be a grandfather paradox, if Adam was supposed to be the first. If Adam never met Hiro, Adam wouldn’t have activated and then activated other heros, which in turn would lead to Hiro never having gone back in time to activate Adam’s power because His (Hiro’s) powers were never activated.

I’m not sure she was trying to break up his family, but to keep secrets buried. If Nathan came clean about his power, the New York plot, etc., and she believed him, that’s dangerous to Angela. So she tried to blow it off as “did he try to tell you he could fly? Yeah, unfortunately delusions run in the family…”

Nit: rifle rounds typically travel supersonically at that distance and he’d be hit before there was a sound to react to. In this case, yeah, definitely not enough reaction time unless he saw the gun first. Was he looking the other way?

The blood spatter seems to contradict it, although technically he could’ve phased and someone standing next to him went splat.

DL’s death was pretty lame. Some macho guy gets weirded out by a dude that he put his fist through, a guy who is now leaving and is no longer a threat, so Mr. Macho decides that he has to track him down and murder him in a crowded public place? Weak.

What would’ve made more sense would be to have Niki/Whatever her name is this week (Gina?) refuse to cooperate with DL, DL tries to force her, Mr. Macho struggles with DL, sees him phase and views him as an immediate scary as fuck threat, and in a continued struggle shoots him. That would’ve made more sense both practically (the guy killed him in a scared/struggling/threatning moment, rather than deliberate murder for no reason) and thematically (Niki being out of control lead to the struggle, and hence DL’s death).

Never underestimate stupid. Throw in some wounded pride from having lost the dick waving contest over the crazy chick, you’re pretty much guaranteed some stupid.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet in all the talk about whether DL is dead or not but an ad I saw tonight made it pretty clear that somebody we think is dead isn’t.

Castro?

Isaac?
DL?
Nakamura-san?

Yeah, people have been murdered over stupider shit, to be sure.

Something else no one has mentioned…

Nathan was healed three weeks before the premiere. But he was sporting the serious Grizzly Adams look. That is some mighty impressive beard growth for three weeks.

Maybe there’s more to Kensei’s blood than just healing…

Or maybe not…

I dunno. I can get that much growth in three weeks, and I’m not even Italian.

Well I am Italian and this…

…is still damn impressive.
