I’m among those who thought that this episode was pretty good, though the queen bitch getting unscrewed by Sylar was telegraphed fairly early on. Eden’s power was clearly shown, so I think she’s the “new” hero – even though her powers were alluded to earlier. We also learned that Peter can’t fly on his own, since he mentioned ‘catching a flight’, and he wouldn’t have taken a hard fall with Sylar if he still had flight powers. (I was a bit disappointed that he didn’t seem to pick up Sylar’s telekinesis tho’.) Every image that Isaac has painted has come true so far – so that leaves open the question of how, and even whether, our heroes can stop the bomb. I think I now interpret “Save the cheerleader, save the world” as being two steps – gotta save the cheerleader to save the world later in the season. With that in mind, here are a couple of WAGs:
I sensed some romantic tension going on between Claire and Peter. I wonder if there’ll be a Claire/Peter/Simone romantic triangle at some point; it’s definitely in Peter’s best interests to stick near Claire.
I’ve wondered if Ted isn’t responsible for Nuking New York, but saving it. His radioactive powers also confer immunity to radiation, and him dying while somehow saving the city would be a nice redemptive storyline. That being said, Claire’s probably immune to radiation poisoning too, and she looks much better in a cheerleader outfit.
In the vein of “no show kills off a primary character nine shows into the first season”, no show captures its primary antagonist nine shows in either. I suspect that Mr Bennett may get to show more of his evil side once he’s got Sylar strapped to a table with the Haitian standing guard.
I think Ghost Dad not being toast will be another example of bad writing. If he phases as soon as he feels threatened, Jessica/Niki would never have been able to knock him across the room. Gunshots move a lot faster than suitcases, even Niki-flung suitcases.
And I loved the Ando/Peter conversation – two sidekicks, one super, one not.
I saw this and though, huh, I guess at least two people here didn’t like it. Turns out both posts are from you. Too much trouble to elaborate for us a little? Is your power super-sloth?
I thought this was the best episode of the season by a long shot. My eyes were bugging out of my head the whole time. And the ending with Pixie and the Haitian taking down Sylar? OMG. I really can’t wait to see what happens next.
You could argue that they won’t kill off a primary character, but damn, this show has a lot of primary characters. Roughly 12 by my count. They could lose a couple and it would be ok.
Thoroughly enjoyed this ep with the exception of Mohinder’s portion. Seems that the writers went to a lot of expense to tell a little of Mo’s past. Couldn’t this have been accomplished in NY? The boy was pretty cool though being a spiritual guide.
Is the cafe where Ghost Dad and son are parked the one Ando is waiting for Hiro in?
I think they showed Peter taking on some of Syler’s powers before they fell. Didn’t Peter pick him up and throw him?
So I guess AED had Eden and Haitian dude waiting to capture Syler once he knew he would be at the homecoming. Do you think he has the list too? Obviously AED is not Syler nor anyone we have met so far. What’s the deal with murdering our heroes? Next week all is revealed. At least more has been revealed so far than in all three seasons of LOST.
I’m willing to give this episode a pass if they can maintain the level of intrigue. If the writers don’t seem to have a darn good reason for taking Sylar down so easily, I’m going to get very upset. If they’re able to twist us around again regarding motive and who’s really the bad guy, all will be right with the world.
Did the scene with Sylar standing in a doorway looming over the body of a dead cheerleader come true tonight? Is the twist the fact that everyone assumed the dead cheerleader was actually Claire? Or will there come a time when Claire is again in danger because of Sylar? Perhaps her father tries to use Sylar for his own ends and Sylar somehow breaks free and goes after Claire again. Or not. Just a thought.
NBC built this episode up so much, and it let me down twice as much.
I thought everyone was supposed to meet up tonight. I guess to play off of “Homecomming”. I thought that the saving the cheerleader would be… well more Indiana Jones, less … civilian.
I mean, aside from losing the “co-captain” cheerleader, and Mohinder (or whoever the Profs son is) returning to a state he started the show off with, what really happened tonight ?
It was a little anti-climactic but damn, it was lots of fun anyway.
Eden and Haitian Guy were very cool. I love it when the good guys get to win and be cool.
Am I the only one who was expecting AED to come to the rescue and cut loose with some magnifilous powers?
I still think he’s got some. Well he should dammit.
Mohinder better get his ass back to NY. I don’t care how fabulous his shirts are, he’s starting to bore me. He’s got Professor X written all over him now though.
I wonder if Mr. B or Nathan is going to get Peter out of the clink.
I’m figuring that it’s Claire’s dad.
And I think that he won’t spring Peter, not at the moment anyway. This will tie in somehow to Nathan and the election, but I don’t know how yet.
Do you mean the painting that Peter finished? It wasn’t an exact match but yeah, Sylar loomed over dead Jackie for a moment. I assume the painting wasn’t an exact match because of the interference of Claire, just like the painting of Claire being menaced by the shadow wasn’t an exact match because of the presence of Peter. The characters are beginning to alter Isaac’s foreseen future.
Does anyone else think that the new painting of a reddish firey figure is really Ted?
Who is the Mr. B people are referring to here? Do you mean Linderman?
How are they going to resolve the apparent fact that the Mnemonic Waitress is still dead in Ando’s time?
I’m sure that Ghost Dad must phase to have the bullet pass through him. It is odd though that he could be struck by the case earlier.
Wasn’t Peter cutting it close to go to Midland just an hour before he knew he had to find a specific high school in Odessa? How far apart are those two cities anyway?
I also found the layout of the school to be a bit confusing. Also a bad idea to have a seating area for high schoolers backed by a precipitous drop without some sort of fencing or other barrier. And how did AED go so wrong in finding Claire? He heard her scream, but ended up in the completely wrong place - luckily he happened to run into her.
If it was going to be that easy to stop Sylar, why didn’t AED’s little team do it a long time ago? Was it simply that they had no clue how to find him? They certainly were all over Mohinder, so they have some ability to track people.
And not that I really expected NBC to be honest in a teaser, but they promised that we would find out the meaning of “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World.” I don’t feel like I found out the meaning of that. (And nobody ever goddamned whispered it like they do in all the commercials!) Misleading bastards.
“Spiritual Guides” in movies and TV shows always drive me up the wall. “You have the answer already.”
Asshole, if I knew the answer, I wouldn’t be asking you. Just say “yes,” or “no”, or even, “Get your skinny ass back on the plane to New York and find the others.”
