Heroes 2/19 - "Unexpected" (SPOILERS)

Wow, great episode. They’re finally starting to up the stakes.

It definitely seemed like Hiro’s power was localized to the gun and the bullet, as she recoiled after the bullet re-entered the gun.

One thing I really like is that they seem to be returning solidly to the theme that made the premise of the show attractive in the first place: In a non-black-and-white world, what exactly is a hero?

Everyone’s at odds with each other now, and everyone thinks they alone are in the right.

Hiro can “bend time and space”, right? When you can do that you can do pretty much anything. He can already teleport AND time travel. Unless he teleports by stopping time and walking across the globe. I don’t see why his space-timey powers couldn’t also have some object manipulation effects.

The Haitian is still the one confusing me.

I don’t think he has too be looking at a person too block their powers, remember when he was walking out of the police station and the (ex) policeman was trying to read his mind? It didn’t even seem like he realised that was happening but he still blocked that guys powers.

Maybe its just weaker when he’s not trying as mind reader guy did manage to pick up the word “Syler”

And if Peter picked up Haitians powers doesn’t that mean that he’s outright unstoppable?

I’m liking the duality between Peter and Syler, one naturally and painlessly absorbs the powers- but not deliberately and slightly unwillingly- whereas the other one is simply seeking the most power he can possibly get, even if he has to kill for it.

And I’m damn sure that there has to be a series finale fight between the two though unleashing all their powers on each other- that’s way to cool an opportunity to miss.

As fro the Haitian ‘blocking’ powers… the only one that we’ve seen direct evidence to that is Mat… and even once, Mat was able to focus thru it to AEG … perhaps with Mat, the Haitian thinks “blank thoughts”… like the whole not talking thing, and that’s enough to disrupt Mat.

I don’t have time to read all of the posts, so I don’t know if this has been suggested yet, but…

Peter has TK from Sylar and “super healing” from Claire. One possibility I see is that he uses these powers (instead of time travel) to actually “heal” Simone, rather than stopping the shooting from occurring. TK allows you to project a physical force only through mind power. Maybe he “projects” Claire’s healing ability? Or even better: Peter is a nurse, with a good knowledge of physical systems. He could use TK to repair the damage to Simone’s body.

J.

I think you are completely wrong. He is heading back to Las Vegas. HE is going for the sword. He still thinks he needs it to make his powers work. Proof: he still has the art tube to put in the sword and we know he gets the sword at some point. Hiro had no idea what happened.

I think the answer can be found in an episode of another show, the X-files. The episode with Peter Boyle as the psychic. The killer finally meets him and knows he has the power of second sight the killer asks him “I was hoping you could tell me why I do what I do.” Peter Boyle says “Don’t you know? It’s because you’re a homicidal maniac.” (I’m sure I’m paraphrasing). Sylar’s motivation is simple: He’s fucking nuts.

Thats the problem with watching the show late and then jumping into the thread. I wanted to be the one to say this! Yes that was the wires trailing the darts, not some time-slowing or TK effect.

I’m sure there were other things I wanted to comment on but thats what I get for working on Monday night.

One prediction: at the end of the season Peter meets the Nissan Versa and can’t handle the power. He immediately blows up New York. The Nissan Versa is unharmed.
Oh and I forgot…

He also plays … which makes hearing his ideas about having partners much more interesting.

I forgot to ask my question. For those of you that didn’t see it, the scene with WiFem and Ted in the shack was the “extra special super duper surprise if you what Deal or No Deal” that they showed on the first night of the second half of the season.

Is it just me or did they change the scene a bit? I got the impression that the dialogue was changed.

Peter is AWESOME now. I was holding my breath during that entire last scene. And Simone’s death was beautifully written. Interesting how her having Issac’s key was basically what led to her death. Isaac’s become such a tool now.

I still think that the Haitian can only cancel abilities connected to the mind. Someone here once pointed out that technically all abilities are connected to the brain, but brain does not equal mind for me. The fact that Nathan was able to fly in the Haitian’s presence says pretty clearly to me that there is some kind of limit to what powers the Haitian’s own abilities affect.

I think it was poorly acted. You just shoot and kill the love of your life and the best facial expression you can come up with is “oops”?

I almost wouldn’t be surprised if we see that scene from a different perspective next week or something. It did feel a bit clumsy the way Isaac & Peter were making all that noise and commotion and Simone didn’t notice anything and was just suddenly standing there.

Also, why was Isaac armed with a regular gun anyway? If his job was to find Peter and hopefully apprehend him, shouldn’t he have been using a tranquilizer gun or something?

Oh well. Minor nit-picks.

I got fi’e dollars says Isaac goes back on the junk now.

AED wasn’t interested in capturing Peter. Isaac was interested in keeping NYC from getting blowed up. If Peter’s alive then there remains a chance that he’ll blow up NYC. If he’s dead, not as much. I have no problem from a characterization standpoint with Isaac’s using a regular gun.

I can believe Isaac might have a regular gun, living in NY and all. Maybe he’s in a rough neighborhood. But I don’t believe AED wants Peter dead. He wants him captured. That’s why they were using stun guns on them earlier. He’s trying to find Peter, not kill him on sight. Heck, as dangerous as Sylar is, the organization wanted him captured and studied. It wasn’t until Sylar broke into his home and hurt his wife he decided to countermand his own orders.

Everyone wants to find Peter, no one has talked about killing him. Except Claude, but he’s kinda mouthy.

AED gave Isaac the gun he later used… IIRC, Isaac was rather surprised by that…

When AED and Haitain went to capture Claude, I do not think they were expecting Claude and Peter, but at that point, AED no longer had his gun, and even via infrared, I don’t think you could pick your targets that cleanly (to kill one, capture the other).

I missed AED giving Isaac a gun, but I guess it makes sense if he’s going to be one of your agents he might as well have some protection. I would assume his direction WRT Peter would be “use it if you have to.”

I disagree about AED not expecting to find Peter with Claude though. Isaac revealed in his paintings that Peter was running around NY invisible which tipped off AED that he must be with Claude, that troublesome Brit they thought died years ago.

Is it the same gun Hiro picked up at Isaac’s death scene when he leaped forwards that time? I think it is.

If I remember the scene correctly, Isaac asked AED, “What am I supposed to do with this?” To which AED responded, “Save the world.” Or something similar. Seems fairly clear that AED wanted him to kill Peter.

Well that’s not very nice. Peter saved Claire’s life and AED thanked him and said maybe he’d be able to return the favor someday. If he is really trying to kill Peter then I guess he remains aptly named.

Oh, and I think “save the world” is a bit of over dramatic hyperbole anyway. I mean, even if NY did blow up, it wouldn’t lead to the end of the world or anything.

But it’s a catchier slogan than “Save the Cheerleader, save New York.” Just as “Someone flies, someone dies” is a much catchier slogan than the more apt: “Someone gets thrown out of the window, but lands on a ledge safely; someone dies, but it was a minor character you didn’t care about.”

Hooray, I can finally comment on these threads!

2 theories on Peter v. Isaac

  1. Peter, already upset with Isaac, proceeds to tear Isaac several new ones using TK
  2. Peter saves Simone, smack Isaac, and continues on to some new way to waste time until the writers decide to create some sort of closure

My take on the Taser scene. It seems to me Peter stopped time, looked at the taser for a while, then stopped the TK with a taser.

If they can track Claude, why did they think he was dead? I don’t think the radio-isotope is a passive tracker, if Wireless is right at about it at all. At best it’s something they can go out looking for with sensors. It’s possible wireless has a totally different agenda. I think next episode is going to be a lot of
Wireless: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR KILL THEM
Matt: Wait hold on he has something interesting to say

my WAG, Matt and the Bennets end up running one direction and wireless and Ted end up on the other side. BTW does… Ted = Caveman guy from the Geico commercials

At least Mohinder/Syler are moving along at a reasonable pace, they had an episodic adventure this episode that began and resolved at a good clip, but of course not even Mohinder is dense enough to not figure it out after a while. I believe Mohinder will either die or be saved by somebody who has just enough power to fend off Sylar.

It seemed to me Hiro did indeed attempt to use his power. The fact that the gun clearly recoiled away from her was very confusing. I sort of agree with the notion that he projected a limited time-reversal field and since that’s pretty unprecedented I could see how that could arguably cause the gun to put a force on Hope’s hand. I think he knew it worked… remember originally he wanted the sword because it was going to help him focus his power, period, then gradually wanted it because his power was “fading”
