Heroes Season 3 Finale 4/27/09

Oh, I see - I thought I missed a scene at the end of the episode when he was Nathan, hovering in place or something.

During the fight he was floating, but I didn’t think that was b/c he could fly ala Nathan, but b/c he could levitate his own body due to his telekinesis.

Am I giving the writers too much credit to think that they had this planned at the start of the season? Because they gave Sylar that “history of an object” power in one of the first episodes, and it pretty much disappeared until now.

“am I giving the writers too much credit?”

Yes.

When did Sylar get the puppetmaster powers? I thought he hung up the puppetmaster - still live - on Danko’s wall. They’d mostly given up on the idea that he was capable of absorbing powers without melon-balling the victim’s brain.

He can still do it, he just chooses to be a killer.

Again, like with the hovering, I think it was just his telekinesis.

No, when he was controlling Claire, it was definitely the puppet master power.

I thought it was the TK, but it could have been the puppet power. (Ta-da-da-Da-da!) We know he can get powers without physically poking around, and if you’re planning on being an evil super-villain, then the puppet power is too good to pass up.

Yeah it was, which is strange because he didn’t kill him… And are we sure that the dead guy was the shape-shifter? I thought part of the reason it was so important that Matt was there was so he could convince Claire and Pete etc that they were looking at Syler rather than Nathan.

No, they mentioned getting the fake Sylar body.

When Matt asked what they were gonna tell everyone about Sylar, Noah said he would get the shape-shifters body out of deep freeze.

People might not miss Peter, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t mind playing Nathan 24/7.

I can’t figure out when Sylar got the puppet master power. Not that I’ve been paying attention much this season.

He captured the Puppet master and gave him to Danko. He could have absorbed it then.

Amen. Nicki could have rocked, super strong chick gets her psychosis in order and becomes company agent (they were setting her up to be Mohinder’s ‘one of them’ in S2) but thhtthhhhht. Sputter. Splat. Waste of potential.

Matt was there to give Sylar the hard-drive format/Nathan software reload (hey, where was Haitian for all this? He’s great at brainwipes, and Angela’s a friend and all.) Nathler’s current Nathany appearance isn’t an illusion. Sylar physically transformed to Nathan-form.

Aye. Let’s review this, everyone:
[ol]
[li]Sylar get ability to mooch powers without brain surgery back in Villains days, gets Elle’s ability without killing her by this method. [/li][li]But keeps on a’ kill’n because it’s fun! or something[/li][li]He captures puppet man & strings him up for Danko[/li][li]Could presumably have taken his power at that time, or perhaps he was inspired to use his TK a new way. But look who we’re talking about here, huh? He stole it[/li][li]Danko and Sylar go to the bar, where Shapeshifter has shaped into Sylar. Shapeshifter screams like a girl as Sylar’s about to splice his skulll…[/li][li]Danko asks if he can do it without the ‘y’know, spllakkt?’; Sylar says sure, and by some undescribed mechanism gets the guys’ ability while still leaving a good looking Sylarcorpse[/li][li]…which is then placed in the freezer after Noah stops them from getting it cremated; it then becomes the centerpiece for the Ewok Funeral Pyre that ended volume 4. And considering Sylar failed to remain dead after the Primatech fire, I’m very surprised Claire didn’t take a chainsaw to Sylar’s putative body. But I digress.[/li][/ol]

So I sparked up the DVR to see what Peter said about getting Sylar’s ability:
(After Peter and Claire convince gun-pointing Noah they are actually not Sylar-shifts)
Noah:“Did you take his power?”
Peter: “Yeah”
Claire: “So we can stop him?”
Passel of SS bust in and interrupt them Then;

Cut to Matt using his Doctor Who Magic Paper billfold on the SS agent (atta boy, use your powers for good!)

Two points, though: 1) ‘Power’- Sylar’s ability to take powers, or Peter took a single power? Or took all of the abilities Sylar accumulated? Not clear. 2) During this, Peter is bleeding from a head cut. Also not clear if he healed and it’s leftover blood, or he has not healed/did not get Sylar’s heal ability.

Y’know what this show needs for the next season?Angel writers. Those sonsofbitches knew how to develop morally gray/black/shitbag evil characters over the long haul and they could work a story arc. If that’s the way Heroes wants to tilt, go for it, guys, but outsource for some pros, dammit!

Are they going to go for some sort of “Identity Crisis” storyline with Sylar next season?

Or they could just cat 'n mouse the audience with ‘is he Sylar now? Does he know he’s Sylar and is keeping up the facade for his eeeevil purposes?’ and have the audience extrapolate and analyze every facial tic and glance. It’s not like Heroes fans are wont to ignore wee oddities in the show or anything. The writers could just spend a season chucking us raw meat of this sort. No Quinto, of course. That would sort of blow it.

I think instead they should have Mohinder give increasingly inane voiceovers every episode, sounding more and more like a stoner that can’t come down from a bad trip.

“There are over…uh…lots of people in the world. Dude! Do you know what that means? It means there are people on the complete other side of the planet! How is that even possible? Dude, I’m tripping out big-time just thinking about it! Plus, like, it’s dark on one side of the planet and light on the other all the time! Holy shit! Trippin’ balls, man!”

At this point, only a minor comment:

Does this mean that I don’t have to see that creepy Zachary Quinto face ever again? If so, this is a five-star episode.

Yep, according to this.

Heh. My wife calls Sylar “Crazy-Eyes”.
