Hey! American Idol (March 6, 7 and 8th)

Not directly, they’ll “ooh” with shock over who ever does get kicked and Paula will cry. They won’t focus on Antonella, though or explicitly say who should have gone instead of Sabrina or Gina or whoever.

They go one at a time once it gets to the final 12.

If Antonella stays, I’ll do a Britney and shave my head.

Or something really dramatic. Then I will probably stop watching in disgust.

This half male/half female splitting stinks. Sending good female singers home and keeping bad male ones.

I love Melinda. Shiver me timbers, girl!

Anyone notice how Melinda gave the backup singers some props.

I wish they’d just drop the guys (they could maybe keep Chris S and Blake but they’ll be voted off anyway) and have an all-gal show. The women are worlds better than the men.

OTOH, Melinda is so good that the rest of the show is pretty much moot. I almost wish some company would swoop in, sign her, and take her away so that it could be a real contest for the rest.

Someone just give Melinda a recording contract already. The woman was on fire.
I liked Lakisha, too, and Gina was all right. (My 80-year-old mom refers to her as “RedBlack.”)

Yes. She’s the epitome of class… when she’s performing. My only criticism of her is the whole please-don’t-hit-me thing once her song is done. It’s disarming upon a first impression, endearing upon a second, suspect upon a third, and just plain tiresome thereafter. I was delighted, however, to have learned about her Melancholy temperament, and it does partly explain her low self-esteem.

Waitaminit, that thing Melinda was talking about keeping everything “equal” is OCD? That’s not, like, normal? I mean, things don’t have to be even but isn’t it just better when it is? Better because-- it’s even! Symmetry is good.

Biggirl, if *not *making things “equal” creates *anxiety *for you, then you’re in the OCD zone.

I forgot to mention something. My coworker reports her mother said the following: “What’s up with this Sanjaya? Her mustache is growing in.”

Ah, good. I’ve always thought that I was far to lazy to be OCD and I was right since it takes waaaaay too much effort to keep things as even as I’d like them to be.

Well…the guys disappointed in such a big way. Chris was the only one I liked. And though I think he may end up with some kind of a gig, he’s not the next Idol.

I see four or five of the women making it a pseudo competition, if it wasn’t for Melinda. Melinda Doolittle takes the night…again! She’s just so talented and polished and natural on stage; it’s like she was born with a mic in her hand! I’m not even crazy about that song, but I loved every second of her performance.

She never misses a note.
She never looks nervous.
She’s always gracious.
She understands the music so that her personal style always shines through. No copycat singing for her!
I just love her! She’d have to choke on the mic and fall off the stage to blow it. And she’d probably do THAT gracefully! And she’d still get my vote.

Like rockle, it seemed almost everyone reminded me of someone last night. Weird.

Jordin - Totally reminded me of America Ferrara last night. She’s super cute. I really liked her performance, but think she’s one of the girls at risk of leaving tonight while Antonella stays. That sucks.

Sabrina - Reminds me of my cousin. I thought she was good, too, but she really did lack spark or something.

Antonella - Again, the worst of the night and again, she’ll probably stay while one of the more talented girls goes home.

Haley - You know, I couldn’t place who she reminded me of, but she definitely looks like an Osmond. Haley’s got a nice voice, but she’s just not my kind of singer. She should go sing at Disney or maybe even try out for some Broadway shows. I think she’ll be gone tonight.

Stephanie - Looked like Fantasia, sounded like Beyonce. I think she, along with Jordin, are most at risk for going home prematurely because of Antonella. She’s good, but not as memorable as Lakisha, Melinda, or even Gina for that matter.

Lakisha - Really, really good. I didn’t think the dress did anything for her. It made her look lumpy. From the chest up she looked fantastic, though.

Gina - Excellent! And that’s coming from a person who absolutely hates that song. I thought she sang it better than the original. I really hope Gina sticks around for a few weeks to keep things lively.

Melinda - Really awesome. We should just give her the prize and send everyone home.

My rankings:

  1. Melinda
  2. Gina
  3. Lakisha
  4. Sabrina
  5. Jordin
  6. Stephanie
  7. Haley
  8. Antonella

As I said above, I don’t think there’s any chance we’ll get to lose Antonella tonight. Haley’s a goner, and I think Stephanie or Jordin, maybe even Sabrina, are really at risk. That’s a real shame. I think in the next few weeks we’ll see a lot of guys go home so we might be stuck with Antonella for quite a while.

That reminds me … are we doing our prediction contest again this year? I can’t remember who organized it, but it was really fun.

Going home: Antonella and some other white girl. Probably Haley. I’m sitting here going, “Who’s that? Was she on the show all along?” And the song she sang sounded like a Disney tune from one of the straight-to-videocassette movies.

I agree, rockle, Sabrina has always looked like Gloria Estefan to me.

I’d like Melinda more if she wasn’t going to be directly responsible for sending my Blake and Chris home.

LaKisha was very good (my second favorite). That family of hers has enough enthusiasm for the entire audience! I’ll bet that’s comforting to her, as she always looks pretty nervous to me. I thought her voice was great, but I wasn’t nuts about the song. I’d like to see her try something more challenging.

He said she was under the desk getting something for him. Seacrest spun that into the suggestion of a hummer.

Ditto.

What’s tough for me is: Song choice is so important, pick something that makes you stand out but then don’t pick a big dramatic song someone else has done memorably. What’s left??

Two, if you’re on the block for being perceived as a skank, over-the-knee boots aren’t doing you any favors.

Three, can we make anyone who says “Come on! Yeah!” immediately thrown off the show? And I mean throw literally? There could be some sort of pit near the stage.

What’s up with Seacrest laying on the double entendre and the “sexy” moves on the ladies? I always kinda liked Ryan but it seems like this year he’s jumped over into creepy.

I’m with you on this one. I thought Jordin was terrible. She’s got such a great voice, but I think Pat Benetar was a little too much for her. The judges liked it, but I suspect they’ll change their opinions when they go back and watch the show on tv.

I’m not sure I’d put her below Antonella though. What she did was an absolute mess.

Yep. He needs to remain metrosexual ambiguous dude. No need to overcompensate because of rumors.

I thought it was going to be a good fight between Lakisha and Melinda. But Lakisha is losing my interest a bit I think by her song choices. Melinda always has some cool, edgy selection which is awesome. Lakisha not so much. If I could go the rest of my life without hearing another Whitney Houston of Celine Dion song that would be fine with me.
If Lakisha could pick some good song and do it up right like she did in the first round of 24 she’d be right back in the race with Melinda.

Yes, technically Lakisha is fine but Melinda has the Yo Factor.

She’s like Nadia Turner, but with talent. Nadia always picked these awesome, unusual, off-the wall songs that showed off what she could do – unfortunately, Nadia only had a range of about 3 notes, so she was limiting herself. I hope Melinda keeps up these unusual song choices, because as long as she is doing stuff that isn’t done on this show very often, she can’t be compared to anyone else, which is only going to benefit her in the end.

Plus, she is the cutest darn thing I’ve seen since Paris Bennett last year. Melinda’s smile lights up the whole galaxy. It’s nice to see her enjoying herself.
