Boy, Gina took Simon’s comments about edginess seriously last week. Good for her, she sounded better than she has been. Nobody can sing like Amy Lee, but she didn’t try for an imitation and I think it worked for her.

Some other people answered this, but just in case you’re curious about the song, a large part of what it’s remembered for is the music video. It was controversial at the time and they had to censor out a part that showed the kid putting the gun in his mouth. The YouTube clip isn’t actually the uncensored version, but I don’t know if that exists anymore.
I said in my last post that I didn’t like it much, but hearing it just now it’s better than I remembered it being.
Melinda was once again great. She really knows how to perform a song.
Biggirl, we’re totally on the same page. I want Antonella and Haley to go home and I will settle for no less. I also feel the same way about LaKisha. Girl can sing, but you’re right, she can’t do much better than she did already. Great voice but I get the same every week from her.
I voted for Melinda and Gina tonight because they’re the two I’m most concerned about keeping in the competition. Consider me a Melinda groupie, I want us to hang out and have OCD parties.

Well, I finally got to hear the girls on the same night, and I have to say that like many (most?) of us, I like the girls better. A lot better. And the fact that they’re singing songs I (mostly) recognize is only part of it – they’re so much better than the guys, it’s practically criminal. My impressions:

[li]Jordin … Looks a lot like Sara Ramirez to me, although I’m a known insane crazy person, so I don’t know how much that counts for anything. I love that she has sung songs from different genres and done them all well. Pat Benetar is tough to sing, as she did a good job. And she seems so much more comfortable and polished on stage than Lisa Tucker did last year. Good on her.[/li][li]Sabrina … In a certain light, from a certain angle, she looks like Gloria Estefan. I like this song a lot, and I think she did better than OK, but this is a song where all the parts are supposed to blend, which I think drew more attention than intended to the backup singers. Love the Bernadette Peters hair. I wish she wasn’t getting lost in the Diva Deathmatch between Stephanie, LaKisha, and Melinda – in any other season, she’d be Top 5 easy, maybe Top 3.[/li][li]Antonella … I like this song, but not the way Antonella sang it. She is a pretty girl, but I don’t think that’s enough: Kimberly Caldwell was the last girl who stuck around longer than she should have on her looks alone. I think she’s toast this week, VFTW notwithstanding.[/li][li]Haley … Who? I don’t know the song she sang, so I can’t tell whether she did a good job or not. Is she one of the Osmonds? I loved her outfit, but Simon was dead on. I have no idea who she is, or what she can bring to this competition, or whether she has a personality at all. Out this week, almost definitely.[/li][li]Stephanie … Another person who looks like someone else sometimes – in this case, Fantasia. I think she’s great, but I also think she’s kind of robotic. And I can’t figure her hair out. It bugs me, for some reason. Is it a mohawk, or a fauxhawk, or what? Confusing and disturbing.[/li][li]LaKisha … Count me among those who don’t much care for the dress. Or the song. But I hate the entire “Bodyguard” soundtrack, so I’m not the best arbiter of taste. Loved the necklace, though, and also the shoes. So sparkly! She’s good, but not as good as everyone keeps telling her she is, I don’t think.[/li][li]Gina … I lurve her. She looks like my best friend from high school. And I love that she sang Evanescence, which is hard to do, and also appropriately rockin’. I hope she sticks around.
