I’d say the major elements of the underworld are sulfur (the brimstone of “fire and …” fame), plutonium (named after the god also known as Hades), and cobalt (the word derives from kobold, a demon of the mines who was reviled for substituting his comparatively worthless metal for the silver that the miners were seeking).
Anyone else remember the song The Elements? It starts out:
And ends:
This is the song that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was, and they’ll continue singing it forever just because…This is the song that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. One of the stories in The Stinky Cheese Man is about when the narrator tells a story about himself, the narrator, telling a story, which puts the story into an enless loop…
My kids love that book!
I doubt it. Tin Tin’s dog was named Snowy.
I hope everyone becomes a vegetarian…more steaks for me!
I was a vegetarian for 20 years, and raised my children vegetarian from birth.
Thanks, tell your friends!
mmm I can already taste all the surplus.
Have you ever been in an army surplus store? Man !!! The stuff you can find there !
My boss told me I was surplus to requirements around here and laughed. I don’t get it. Was he trying to tell me something?
Why do people from England use the word redundent when they fire someone? I thought everyone in the world was unique.
You know, thanks to climate change and the effect on the Gulf Stream, England may soon become a very cold place…
I can remember when Gulf was a big time sponsor of stuff on TV. The Space Program mostly. I think they got bought by BP. What does Bernadette Peters need with all that petroleum?
You know my favorite Bernadette Peters’ roll is still as Rita the Cat on Animaniacs.
I always looked forward to those segments and Good Feathers the most.

My 6-month-old cat is a maniac, a tabby-retriever. He’ll fetch until he falls over onto his side, panting. I wish he wouldn’t drop his filthy toys in my watercup, though.
We used to have a Weimaraner, a dog that is both a pointer and a retriever. He was such a sweet, sweet dog! If he was in the yard and saw a squirrel or a groundhog he would go directly into the classic pointer stance, even though he had no actual training as a hunting dog. I find it amazing that such behavior was innate.
I don’t know if there’s any truth to it, and I feel too lazy to check it out, but I once thought that Weimaraner meant “gray ghost” and there was an old TV show about Mosby’s Rangers in the Civil War called “Gary Ghost.” I always refered to the show as Weimaraner so that other people would always ask, “What are you talking about?”
Weimaraners *are * sometimes called grey ghosts because of their color, which is often a silvey grey. But, as I’m sure you know, they are actually named for the Weimar Republic.
Most T.V. shows are garbage, though. The only things I watch are baseball and the occasional favorite movie. And the HBO shows Deadwood, Rome, and Sopranos. No new episodes of any of those are scheduled until the spring, though.
Maybe they should be called Republicans then?
I can’t wait for those HBO shows either. During these doldrum days I have to question the wisdom of subscribing to HBO, but as soon as things crank back up I have no doubt. They surely do carry shitty movies, though.
Not nearly as bad as FLIX, though. They have a library of (seemingly) fifty or so titles, which get aired, on average, four times a week.
