(Put in a little bit of spoiler space here just for the thread list etcetera.)
The Barney/Robin thing was a nice note, I thought. If they stay consistent with the reactions next season, it’s going to get a bit tricky considering that Barney is SO hypersensitive to any woman declaring her feelings for him that he automatically raises his ‘get me out of this situation’ defenses.
I’m feeling a bit tired of the titular conceit at this point and just how long they’ve dragged it out - I thought we were supposed to meet her by this episode, and unless the Rockette girl is gonna be taking an architecture class, I don’t think we did.
The goat plot just felt silly at this point, and I’m on the fence about the actual roof jumping bit - maybe just because of how they shot it at the end. HOW tall is their building supposed to be? We didn’t even see anybody close to the edge of the second roof, ready to reach out and grab their BEST FRIENDS in case one of them didn’t nail the landing?
But overall the show still feels kinda fun. What did you think?
OK, who guessed the woman in the third row of the second section of the classroom? Come on down and claim your prize!
Maybe.
Tune in next season for the exciting reveal!
Maybe.
Hey, at least they brought the goat back. Wait a second, The goat is female, right. Hmm…does anyone remeber if the children in the flashback had horns? Bob Saget keeps refering to them as “kids.” I think it’s about to get all freaky here in season 5. That’s right, goat love is going to make this story Legen…wait for it…
It’s alright that the Mother story is being dragged on since Ted isn’t the most interesting character on the show. With the continuing story of Barney and Robin, let’s see where that goes.
I thought we were promised that we’d meet the future mother in this episode. Does anyone remember exactly what they did promise? Because telling us that she is one of dozens of students in a college lecture hall isn’t exactly narrowing it down. (I wouldn’t be so annoyed, except that the CBS promo dept seems to have learned from the misleading bastards at the NBC promo dept.)
I agree that it’s ‘alright’ that they’re dragging it on - it’s the supposed point of the show, (but the underlying message is that the side plots can be more interesting than the ‘point’, yeah. )
I guess I just wish I could stop falling for spoilers that we’re going to reach such-and-such a point at such time.
One thing that I do like was that we’ve got a tie-in to Stella and the yellow umbrella incident, showing how that was significant. If Ted hadn’t bumped into her that day, he wouldn’t have got the offer to teach.
I wondered last week if it would be something like that, and then put it aside when it looked like Ted had closed the door on teaching entirely. Guess I should know better by now.
I liked the parrallel made between Ted being an architect and how life isn’t like that. You can’t plan a life like you plan a building. Everything happens in unpredictable ways.
We saw her in the St Patrick’s day episode, I think season three.
Just my opinion, but did anybody notice him bump into a women, she turned and apologized and that was it? it was very weird to have a character utter one line like that and never be heard from again. I immediately said “that’s the mother” and later when he found the yellow umbrella in the club and he told his kids she was there that night, it confirmed it. (kinda)
Anyways, i don’t care that they’re dragging the show on, I like all the characters (rare for me) and am really enjoying all the side plots.
And I think we were told that we’d see the Mom by this episode. What we got meets the letter of the law. I’m happy with it. And looking forward to when Season 5 starts.
Sorry, I didn’t write that very clearly. Yes, Lilly made the comparison about Ted’s career. I’d never thought about it before but the fact that they made Ted an architect really fits in perfectly with what this show is about.
I think the mother has already been revealed on the show, but viewers need to piece together all the clues. The final reveal will make this obvious. We have already seen this person and the main cast has already interacted directly with this person. It is not Robin.
As a courtesy, I shall spoiler tag the rest.
The mother’s first initial is ‘T’.
The mother is a hopeless romantic on a lengthy, meandering search for love, but only getting there as fast as reasonably possible. The mother is on a quest to find oneself, one’s true nature.Architecture plays a big part in the mother’s life. The mother owns a yellow umbrella.Final spoiler (get ready to have your mind blown!)
The mother’s last name is ‘Mosby’.
I wonder if there’s a big age difference or if there’s going to be a conflict of professor-teaching-student. It could be easily written off as “they started dating after she graduated” but what would be the fun in that?
Sorry, I actually downloaded and watched every episode in the last week and a half! (I was sick and the cable was out) so haven’t kept up with the threads
A middling episode, chuckle-worthy if not LOL-worthy. The best part was the rapid-fire conversation between Robin and Barney in the hospital room.
Far from being disappointed about not meeting the mother (though it’s the title of the show, it’s hardly the point), I was awfully let down about the goat. They’d been teasing it for an entire year and it ended up completely flat. It had so much more potential! How did the goat get there in the first place? Why was Ted simply trying to ignore this goat walking around his apartment? What happened to the goat afterward?
I’m… coming off a bit goat obsessed here, aren’t I?
