Oh, yeah, rosie, good on ya! I want you to hold my hand if I get bad news…
Good job, Rosie. And I’m sure your sister understands, too. A good friend is truly priceless.
I stayed up too late, but got a lot of good work done once the house was finally quiet, and woke up with a pounding headache. Stupid weather, I’m sure that’s why my head hurts. It’s interesting – but annoying – how around here I get headaches when the barometer, and commensurately the humidity, goes up or down, but I didn’t when I was in NOLA where the humidity was always up. I guess my head just likes humidity. Weird.
I have thus far done nothing this morning. I am now going to drink my second cup of coffee and then contemplate doing something. Maybe.
Good morning, Cool Kids, and happy last day of 2006. It’s been a great year and I, for one, will miss it.
First of all, Rosie, you’re a very good friend and I’d be proud to claim you as one of mine, but don’t be too hard on yourself about your sister. Twenty-six years ago?? Honey, you were a child and no child should have to bear that kind of responsibility–or guilt–this many years later.
So, I have a fun story! Yesterday, my husband and I took the dogs to the beach for our usual weekly outing. There were more people than usual, so we kept them on their leashes for at least half a mile. So, we’re ambling down the surf and what do we find washed up after all the huge waves this week? A lobster trap. My husband investigates and discovers what? That the trap has two lobsters in it!! I am then put in charge of the dogs and take up residence further up on the beach while he attempts to dig the whole thing out. A very nice teenaged kid takes up the task of helping dig, so I insist we split the spoils. We weren’t able to get the trap completely loose, but we head back with my husband carrying Mr. Lobster and me trying to keep the big dog from snatching it out of his hand. That dog has a thing for seafood…preferably alive and kicking.
The funniest part of this story is that recently I have discovered that I’m probably a closet vegetarian as I have the WORST time eating anything that I’ve gotten to know before putting it on my table. I did my best this time, refusing to name it and staying away from it, while the husband agreed to dispatch it. There was a priceless moment of me doing the icky dance in the front yard after it wrapped it’s “feet” around my hand. I did insist on doing the research to make sure it was an instant, painless death. I put on the water and made sure it was at a full rolling boil before I took up my seat in the backyard on the phone with my friend for 13 minutes while the deed occurred.
I was able to choke down only two bites before calling it good, and those were the result of sheer willpower. Thankfully, before we went to the beach, we stopped before going to the beach and bought all of our seafood in nice white butcher paper to eat for dinner tonight.
Some pioneer woman I’d make.
Good morning everyone!
You are a great friend rosie.
Yesterday’s day of slothfulness ended with some friends coming to visit. They and their son stayed for several hours. After they left, I watched Trading Spaces.
I am currently waiting for the coffee to be done. I could have started the pot, but I didn’t feel like it. Hubby finally woke up and came down and made some.
I think I’m going to cruise the Dope for a short while. Hubby has visions of a WoWfest today, so I guess I’ll have to play some of that too.
We have been less slothful today. We went to church, and then to shudder KMart shudder to look at some kitchen rugs. ACBG needs some new ones. Real bad. So, he found some he likes and bought 'em. Then we went to Sonny’s BBQ for lunch. Now we’re back at the swampcave where we are both once again in jammies and ts. The sky’s gonna open up anytime now, so I’m happy to be in sloth clothing for a while. We will don jeans and decent shirts later this afternoon before our friends come over. For now, I foresee a nice nap and other stuff.
Home, went out to a breakfast food joint for lunch. Mr. Lissar is at the dojo for a couple of hours, and I’m loafing. I might change into pajamas, but right now I’m cozy. I do need more tea, or maybe hot chocolate. Mmm. With whipped cream.
What’s wrong with sleeping nekkid?
We’re being seriously slothful up until we leave for the Bears (N.O.B) game.
Good on ya rosie, everyone should have a friend like you!
Hi, Ya’ll!
It sure wasn’t a good weekend for Snakes hockey; we lost to Richmond and Knoxville, and our team captain was injured last night. He took a puck to the face which knocked him out briefly and left a lot of blood on the ice. He was taken to the hospital for observation and we all are hoping for the best.
Mr. SCL and I are planning to join some of our hockey buddies for a New Year’s Eve get-together tonight. Not much drinking will occur, altho I bought a couple of bottles for bubbly for toasts.
Hope all the MMPers have a safe and happy New Year.
Hello all. I am tired of coming in here to say that I am exhausted from discussions that my husband and I have had, so I won’t this time. Look on the bright side, folks-at least I’m not bitching about my job!
I want to spend the day in bed, though-and just be. I just might do that.
I worked yesterday and have to work tomorrow, so no parties for me (I was never a big NYE person).
Rose -good on you for being there for a friend. It is a bit rough on her, though-I mean her husband’s behavior. Perhaps he will come around.
Just a gloomy end to the year over here. God, my name should be Eeyore, not eleanorigby.
Happy New Year’s Eve.
For some bizarre reason, I didn’t get to sleep until after 4am, so I slept until 11. I am going to take nappies before going out tonight - I have to leave here around 7, so I figure I can sleep til about 5 or 5:30 - that’s a NICE nap.
I am tickled pink - for the longest time, I’ve been trying to find a downloadable version of the song sung in the ski lodge in the middle of The Pink Panther (1964). A few weeks ago, I saw that it was on one of the Cinemax’s, so I watched it from the beginning and paid attention to the credits. Then I tried to find the song on iTunes, Limewire, and other places - only I had remembered the song title incorrectly so I had come up with this plan to record the whole movie, then FF to just before that scene, grab my iPod with the little microphone attachment, and point it at the TV wile that scene played. The sound quality would be less than desireable, but I’d have the song for whenever I wanted. So this morning, after feeding the cat, I sat down to paly the recored movie. Again from the begining and this time I would watch for the name of the performer, and I’d look it up that way. That’s when I saw the CORRECT spelling of the song title. So I came in here, and searched again et Voilá! I found it all over the place. Yahoo. Wikipedia. and, yes, Limewire! - I now have it set on “repeat one”, it’s played about 15 times so far.
FTR - friend’s husband does his best to be supportive, but he’s a bit of an odd duck who never rehashes anything. So when, after we’d talked about board games, maps, and The Guy (friend’s cousin), the topic came back to the issue, he said “but dear, we’ve covered this. Let’s talkl about something happy” and it was when we didn’t that he left the room. But when push comes to shove, he will be there for her, to go to the docs with her, to bring her tea and toast after radiation, and hold her hand thru chemo. He really is a good man, but sometimes, he’s a real guy.
Off to saw wood for a few hours.
 so many typos!
I have now added to my New Years Resolutions: Preview! Always preview!
All that and you don’t tell us what the song is, or where to find it?
OK, I am officially exhausted, pooped, worn out, and done in. We de-leafed the front and back yards. You’d think that having a riding mower spewing mulched leaves into a mulcher-vac and on into a cart would make it an easy job. Well, yeah, that part is easy. It’s the raking out leaves that the mower can’t reach and the picking up sticks and the emptying of the cart that kicks one’s butt. I think it took us about 4 hours, and that didn’t include the right-of-way along the road. But it’s done and we’re ready for snow now.
I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer, and at least 6 more loads of assorted dirties to go. Fortunately, I’ve got until Tuesday to get all of the laundry done. So if I only do 2 or 3 loads today, that’s good. Our plans for tomorrow morning include installing a P-trap for the washer drain and finishing the countertop for the basement bathroom. Then I get to play with clay.
Today would be a good day to own a hot tub. Maybe I need to stop demanding love offerings of chocolates and seek a hot tub. Now *THAT’S * a love offering!
it’s Meglio Stasera*, recorded by Fran Jeffries. I do not know if she ever recorded anything else, but you should be able to find the “single” on line somewhere. Donna Summer also recorded it, but I don’t like that version. The interesting thing about the song is it runs throughout the whole movie, different arragements and tempos underscore many of the scenes.
it is not Manio Sastera which is how I had been searching for it.
The hubby and I WoWed it up for a bit and are now talking about taking ourselves and the kids to the mall so we can use our gift cards. After the mall, we have to stop at Best Buy for more gift card usage, then stop to buy soap to wash the rigs with, and finally some more sodie pop.
We’ll see how far we actually get.
What on earth is our upstairs neighbour doing? It sounds like construction. He was banging away last night between ten and eleven, and it’s irritating enough right now that I’m thinking of pushing off for a walk or something. I know he’s allowed to move furniture or whatever during the day, but it sounds like he’s playing “Move the heavy chair around”.
Aagh.
Off to the dojo.
I had a nice nap. Just thought I’d report that. Right now I got N.O.T. on to boil for N.O.T. salad. It’s pouring rain right now but warm, so I have windows open in the study and living room cause it can’t rain in the windows in those two rooms being as the windows face the back porch which is covered and screened. It feels good. Maybe I’ll go wash collard greens.
What? Has everybody gone to take a nap?
The N.O.T. salad is made. I didn’t wash collards but I do have the black-eyed peas on to soak. Later I will slow cook 'em in the crock pot with some hamhock. MMMMMMM…
I got a call from a friend a little while ago. He called to ask if I was going to make corn bread tomorrow. :dubious: AS IF I woudn’t! :dubious: I threatened to serve him whomp biscuits just cause he had the nerve to call and ask that question! :dubious:
BTW all the :dubious:'s are me giving him the stinkeye. :dubious:
I dunno about everybody else, but I’ve been taking a long, lovely nap. The only bad part was getting up.
Can I come over for cornbread and black-eyed peas? I promise not to be all :dubious:!
Dinner’s at one. Don’t be late.
The menu will be:
Fried Chicken
Black-eyed Peas
Collard Greens
Rice (gotta have rice and peas!)
N.O.T. Salad
Cornbread
Peach Cobbler
I get all traditional and southern on New Year’s.
Everyone will be proud to know that we have changed into real clothes. Well, jeans and pullover shirts and sneaks. Our friends will be here around sixthirtyish to hang out, assist in some cooking (not too much) and to munch and drink. Four gay men standing around in a kitchen. We’re such party animals!
