Ho Ho Ho - The Christmas MMP

For those that celebrate it: Happy Exchange Day. Wishing you minimal lines as you rush to swap out the duplicate gifts, or the ones that aren’t quite you, or the let’s-face-it-that-one-really-bites gift.

I don’t know if Friday’s internet access from the office was a fluke or not - I’ll know later today. Otherwise I’ll see you all tonight when I get home from dinner with friends

Good morning, all. Hope everyone is doing better today than they were yesterday - folks seemed kinda down.

It’s pretty quiet at Technical Thingies, Inc. today. Most of the employees are out on vacation, and the fax machine is strangely quiet. I anticipate a lot of catch-up work being caught up on at my desk.

The GF got me a satellite radio for the car with a home docking station. I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with that. Especially since we plan on taking a road trip down to Florida later this year. I have a friend down there whom I have neglected seeing.

I did get my 2007 Dead Pool list in this morning. Figured I wasn’t going to have any more inspiration on it, and wanted to make sure it got posted.

LemmeOut, thanks for the beer. I hearby declare that all new posters can send me that or chocolate to FCM. Although I’m sure she’ll have something to say about that.

And Happy Boxing Day to all you Canucks. I’m sure you all are going out to see the new Rocky movie to celebrate, right?

Ha ha ha ha, Sean. Very funny. When I get home from work I’m lying on the floor and having Mr. Lissar and Attacks Husband feed me chocolate as we watch movies.

We had a mostly lovely Christmas, although we’re very worried about my aunt (she’s almost eighty) who was quite sick yesterday, and has had recent intensive time in hospital. We (me, Dad, Mr. Lissar) went to visit her and her husband (who has Alzheimer’s), and we stayed for a bit, Dad brought me and Mr. Lissar home, and went back and spent until dinner with them.

We have tons of loot. I am a spoiled only child, and by marrying into my family Mr. Lissar became their spoiled son. Mr. Lissar got me the new Loreena McKennitt and a beautiful Chinese brocade shirt. My parents gave me money, clothes, a lot of chocolate, and assorted random stuff.
I got hugged repeatedly for the ipod shuffle. Mr. Lissar spent most of last night playing with it.

The party on Sunday was fabulous. We had the best time ever.

Welcome, Heff. Besides being a jerk, I don’t know if there are any other things you can do wrong in the MMP. We are a very friendly bunch. We hardly ever argue, and we’re always good for hugs.
Happy Boxing Day, everyone!

I got Marvel Comics Scene It (which was interesting, as my friends and I are all much bigger DC fans) and TV Scene It. We spent a LOT of time in front of the tv.

I’m annoyed at outside influence right now, so I’m going to go chill out with my nothing to do at work, and say happy and lovey things later. For now, Merry After Christmas, welcome to the new people, and I’ll be back later.

Woo and hoo! I still have net access at work - I ain’t telling anyone, tho, lest it disappear again.

It’s very, very quiet here today. It’s me, New Girl, the temp in the mailroom, and a couple of IT folks on this floor. I thought there’d be ~100 people here today, but I must have overestimated. When I went to Starbucks this morning, I could see all the way down the sidewalk, instead of the usual horde of people going to/from Starbucks. There was no line and I had my coffee before I’d finished paying for it.

I had 5 emails this morning, 4 of which were mailbox overlimit messages. We just got our weekly email update, which consisted of each group’s box saying, On PTO, Enjoying the Holidays, etc. Our national office is closed this week, but they don’t tell anyone that.

Since it’s quiet today, I’m blasting iTunes from my laptop. It really needs better speakers, but it’s not any worse than the clock radios some people have at their desks. I also didn’t make any effort to get dressed for work today, although I managed to not wear sweats in. Barely. I don’t think my shoes match my sweater, either. I’d rather come in to work, actually, than have this week be mandatory time off. What a waste of PTO! I brought my knitting and a book, so I should have plenty to do today, since the phone’s not going to ring and I won’t be getting any email. I don’t even have any busy work to do. I could do some online training…nah. Too much like work. I’ve already finished my training for the year, and there’s six more months to go.

Hmmm. I think spending 3 days alone with the cats has made me chatty!

It’s slow everywhere…

I had a fast meeting with the boss, now I’m just [del]wasting[/del] spending time entering fuel usage numbers into a spreadsheet I feel an early day coming on today. Maybe a late lunch then outta here.

Happy Boxing Day!

My husband is working today (boo!) but since he basically works for himself, it’s his choice. I have Boxing Day off, and I planned to Get Things Done. I think that if I tidy up the house and clean the kitchen, I will consider that getting things done. I am not ready to go back to work tomorrow; thank goodness for Boxing Day to relax.

And eat leftovers! It’s not even 10 AM and I’ve had turkey, stuffing and gravy for breakfast. (A bright side of being home alone with the dog is that no one knows what you eat for breakfast. And the dog isn’t going to tell on me because she got tiny-sized portions of leftovers too.)

I think there will be a long walk in the afternoon. And a turkey-induced nap later on today. First, I gotta check out the chocolate remaining, though…

It ain’t slow here. We’re short staffed today becaused all the Tue-Sat people took today as their holiday. The upside is that it’s quiet. The downside is we may have trouble making our end month/end year deadlines.

It’s quiet here today, but I still have plenty to do. The problem is being motivated to do it! I am wiped out from the weekend’s activities.

Christmas Day turned out quite nicely with everyone raving about the meal. A very nice time was had by all. We exchanged gifts, ate way too much food, and enjoyed each other’s company.

All that being said; I am so glad it’s over! I’m looking forward to being able to relax. We didn’t even make plans for New Year’s Eve. For the first time in years, we’re just going to hang out at home and relax. In years past, we’ve either hosted parties or gone to friends’ homes to bring in the New Year. I’m looking forward to relaxing.

I should do some work now. I’ve done some, but not nearly as much as I should have done by now.

dogbutler - I worked retail for a number of years during the holiday season. It was never fun. Future Shop was the worst, especially for boxing day. I’d have to get up at about 3:30-4:00am to get ready and then arrive at about 5:00am (at least they paid for a cab) to prepare for opening at 6, then I’d work 'til 9pm during the busiest shopping day of the year at one of the most popular electronics stores in the country. It was sheer and utter chaos, especially when the doors first opened and a mad horde of people would trample in like a herd of angry elephants to claim the door crashers for themselves.

HeffRoo - Welcome to the Cool Kids Lair! You can (virtually) do no wrong here, so don’t worry about going off-topic, because there is no topic! At least not for long.

So, the holidays are over and done with. I did mange to get some pictures of the aforementioned outer decorations. First, there was the Christmas tree (and its attendant pile of gifts and the fibre-optic angel atop it) in a blue theme which was brought in from the trees outside. The driveway was lined with illuminated candy canes. The front yard – both the MIL’s and her neighbours – were covered with illuminated wireframe figures of animatronic reindeer and a snowman consuming at least 100 feet of real estate. (I’m running out of sentence space to place links in. Link!) They also had the fireplace channel on the television, which had some random holiday figures on top of the TV set. I think the whole thing was rather tastefully done and well filled-out without being overdone. It’s the sort of thing I’d like to do if and whenever we manage to get our own house to gussy up for the holidays.

Whoa, Mindfield, that Christmas tree looks positively gothic. Me like.

I think I pulled a muscle in my ankle or something as I scampered up the stairs this morning. It hurts like a mofo. Perhaps a day at the mall will make it all better. Don’t really have much I want to buy, but my cousin wants to go and there’s nothing else really to do around here.

The NFL (thank you very much) changed my NY Eve plans. We had planned to go to the Bears/Peckers game, stop at the bar downtown after for a snack, then head home and rest before going to some friend’s house nearby for a small party.

Now the game is at 7:15, I live an hour from the stadium on a normal day without traffic - so we have to figure what to do downtown after the game. Right now it looks like we’ll stop for a dinner/drink/countdown, then stay the night somewhere and come home in the morning.

Stupid NFL.

Go Bears.

Happy Boxing Day to one and all! Alas, I’ve been hard at work since midafternoon yesterday – the perils of my line of work, everyone wants everything waiting for them when they get back after New Year’s. So the first two weeks of the year are my down time rather than over the holidays.

But that’s okay. Papa Tigs and I had a lovely time in Atlantic City, helped out by the fact that we came home with more money than we went with. Plus they were playing no Christmas music whatsoever in the casino, which was a blessing greatly to be enjoyed.

Welcome to all the MMP newbies/occasional dropins/outs! And if FCM has had all the dark chocolate she can handle for now, I will gladly accept any overflow.

Now back to my exciting work. If I live to complete everything that got piled on me this week, you may have to shoot me to put me out of my misery anyway…

I want to tell you all something, but I’m afraid the person about whom this is, posts here. So I have to check on that first, then I’ll share (or not).
That I know of, it’s none of you, because if it was you would have recognized my screen name and contacted me privately; but this person might be elsewhere on the boards.

Very strange. Cryptic, even.
Rosie is this some kind of secret coded message?

It’s just that halfway thru typingthis thing I had to tell you about, I thought “omigawd, what if he sees this?” I don’t want to jeopardize any of my friendships, so I have to investigate first.

Go ahead, tell them about me - just keep that whole kryptonite business quiet.

Hello. One of the other assistants called in sick so I have to work tonight. No hockey for me. It was quiet this morning, I didn’t get trampled so there is that.

Myndy, neat yard.

MBG, you misspelled “Go Packers”.

I’m in the clear - they don’t post here
So…
I get this email from my friend who wanted to show me what she got for Christmas - Now, mind you, her husband is a sweetheart of a guy, a little doughy, and heading for the other side of middle aged, but I consider them both good friends - but Great Og! Why did she have send me a pic of him in nothing but Santa Shorts and a Santa Hat? I’m happy she’s so delighted with her ‘gift’, but what ever possessed her to share that photo?
