Holy crap! I'm pregnant!

Thank you! I was getting a little scared about that. We can only afford one right now. It’s not that we wouldn’t feel blessed if we had twins, but this is our first and perhaps only (I’m almost 35), so having two would be overwhelming.

I completely understand. First, there was no hiding anything with me anyway (I had severe morning sickness almost immediately and was so tired I couldn’t function). Second, if I lost the baby, I wouldn’t want to be alone in my grief. Some people feel it’s better if no one ever knows (and that’s fine), but that would’ve just been a huge burden for me to carry.

I got a positive ten days after conception, 5 days before my period. One baby. Phew!

Can I babysit?

Nutty Bunny, this is completely out of curiosity on my part, and if you think it’s none of my business or would hijack the thread, please say so; but, am I wrong in remembering that you had some kind of bariatric surgery? If that’s correct, how will this impact the pregnancy?

Yes, you’re right. I had gastric bypass over 2 years ago. I’m at a healthy weight and eat enough calories at this point that I shouldn’t have to worry about nutritional needs too much. I eat about 5 times a day and take vitamins and my bloodwork is monitored every six months and has been really good every time. My cholesterol is even below 200 now (186!) and I’m 125ish pounds.

It shouldn’t affect the baby. You might be surprised how much someone can eat two years after surgery. I have to watch myself sometimes. I’ve scheduled appointments with my OB and my GP, so I’ll get my blood checked again. I had it checked about 2 months ago and everything was good.

Besides, Carnie Wilson had the same surgery and she gained 70 pounds during her pregnancy. I heard her say that on Howard Stern last week, before I knew I was pregnant, so you can bet I’ll have that in the back of my mind!

Thanks for answering my question! I’m glad that it won’t cause any complications. Believe me, you’ll think of enough stuff to worry about, even if you have to make up most of it!

I think my husband is doing most of the worrying right now. He’s emailed me 3 times today.

Did I call the doctor yet? – Yes, I did
Am I going to buy prenatal vitamins? – I already take them, honey.
Am I drinking enough water? – I’ll try to do that.

He’s so cute…I may end up killing him, though.
