It’s been years since I’ve seen or read ROTJ, but I remember distinctly Luke asking Leia if she remembered her mother, her “real” mother. He asks because he knows that Leia did live with Padme for long enough to be able to have memories and he wanted to know about his mother. I believe her description for Luke was something similar to “She was very beautiful, but sad”.
How it comes about that she dies and Leia is fostered out to Bail without anyone (but Yoda and Obi Wan) knowing is something that will have to be addressed in III.
Of course what I don’t understand is why they would “hide” Luke on Anakin’s homeplanet, with a family that Anakin knows about, and let him keep Skywalker as his name. I mean c’mon, those are hardly good Witness Protection Program guidelines.
I finally saw it over Memorial day weekend… my thoughts:
I found the first part SLOOOOOW, but it made up for it in the end. I could have done without the majority of the “love story”, it just didn’t have the same feel as Han/Leia. It was beyond a matter of poor dialogue.
Yoda kicking ass? Made it worth seeing … and will make it worth seeing again.
The C-3PO on the Owen/Beru farm bugged me too, but maybe it’ll be resolved in III. Or maybe, as someone else mentioned, Owen/Beru don’t really pay attention to droids and to them one is much like the other. And we are talking some 20 years.
My friend and I wondered about Anakin’s arm at the end of the movie, we decided that technology just wasn’t as advanced as it is in Luke’s day and age.
My friend and I decided that they have A LOT of ground to cover in III.
Not bad for a 2+ hour sales presentation for ILM. I was pleasently surprised when the gunship landed in the middle of the arena like something out of Black Hawk Down. It was pretty cool seeing the clone troopers fighting like soldiers and not armored buffoons. I guess the Stormtroopers are copies of copies which as everyone knows is not as sharp as the original.
Ruffian don’t forget the wooden acting, it’s “lousy dialog and wooden acting.” Apparently, this is the same dreadful dialog and acting that we were getting in the first three movies. Somehow, we enjoyed those movies end to end, and were barely able to hold down our popcorn during TPM and AOTC, must be nostalgia.
No, that’s the same dreadful dialogue as in the third movie. The hubby and I had a discussion the other day trying to determine which was the better film–AOTC or ROTJ. We ended at a stalemate. The first two had some rather clever writing and even–gasp–sexual innuendo.
There was decided chemistry between Leia and Solo, and it helped that the actors (particularly Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford) brought some actual, well, character to their characters. The only person I saw attempting to humanize their portrayal was Ewan MacGregor. However, his jokes didn’t always work. There were several instances where he’d say something, and a light would go on in my brain saying, “Hey, that was supposed to be funny,” but it was met with complete silence in the theater. His timing was a little off, but sometimes, it was right (such as in the arena). I blame the director for that.
My main complaint re:both acting and dialogue is against the two leads–Anakin and Amidala. The writing was quite stale, to say the least, and there was NO chemistry between the two. The actors looked lost and it all sort of fell flat.
But, like I said before, it was a very pretty looking movie.
anakin walked off with c3po because he was the maker. his mom finished him up a bit.
