Holy crap! No more Dio?

You can’t say we didn’t try the temporary option, though.

What kind of rum?

He was smart and had the potential to continue to contribute greatly to this board. Too bad his posting style did not mesh with his intellect. A good choice by the mods - thanks for having the balls.

Wow.

I actually liked Dio, but I avoid Great Debates as a forum and once he got involved in MPSIM stuff, I tended to back out. He talked pretty reasonably on Cafe Society topics usually.

Despite my liking of Dio, I do think he violated the rules and can’t really argue against the banning.

Isn’t Dio’s brother on the board as well? Forgive my ignorance. I remember something like that.

I’m sad, but not shocked, to see Dio go.

He was the Liberal Version of Carol Stream.

Good Riddance.

Especially when he has three naturally conceived kids of his own.

His mother died in a house fire back in April. It was a gruesome experience for him and his family.

I don’t think he would expect pity, nor should he have the rules ignored because of this tragedy; still, as I said, remembering his recent loss makes me feel sorrier that he couldn’t change his ways so he could continue to participate here.

Who are being raised to believe in Jesus.

I believe his username is tnetennba (something like that).

I honestly don’t know if I support this banning or not. He had too many warnings, and wouldn’t change his ways, so I guess it was going to happen sooner or later, but he didn’t bother me in the least. So I guess I support the banning - rules is rules.

Well, shit. :frowning:

Not surprised, but bummed.

I don’t spend much time in Great Debates or Cafe Society, so most of my exposure to Dio has been him derailing opinion threads with ever-multiplying repetitious, shit-stirring nonsense posts. Sure he’s smart, but he’s also a troll. Glad he’s gone for good.

Unfortunate. :frowning: I always thought of him as a board institution

Many Dopers from differing points of views politically and religiously, have indicated that they will miss him. Considering how arrogant he seemed to be, I would say that that speaks well of him in the long run. I will miss his input and I appreciate the explanation for his banning.

I’m surprised at how many people think he was “an expert” on religion considering how many really questionable claims I noticed and I’m hardly an expert.

He was certainly competent knew more than most, but hardly an expert.

Granted, I think there’s an unfortunate trend on this board to label people who should be described as “competent” on the subject experts. Admittedly some have treated me as such regarding Islam, Israel, or the Middle East in general.

Beyond that, he was appalling rude to many people who did nothing to warrant it and often reveled in his rudeness.

He also behaved in ways far more reminiscent of a teenager than a man in his late 30s to early 40s. I.E. hurling homophobic slurs at people he didn’t like, referring to others as “retards” and “assmonkeys”.

That said. I actually feel sorry for him. When you look at how many posts he averaged a day and how many years he was here, he spent a staggering amount of his free time on this messageboard.

I can’t help but think his IRL life must be miserable.

THis was the difficult thing about Dio. I would usually trust him on Biblical knowledge, but given his track record in other areas, I wasn’t so sure I should. It was odd how often the “correct” interpretation of scripture synced with his political views.

When 56000 posts you have, behave so well you will not, hmmm?

I thought he was the reeder version of handy.

Or the december version of Soul Frost.

Or maybe the mswas version of tldr…

About time, good riddance.

I like the way he still gets under people’s skin. Cheers mate.

I was surprised to learn he was banned. I know he was caustic, and he deserved a lot of the warnings he got.

I’ll miss him nonetheless. For once I agree with Qin. I felt he was just a fixture, and would never be removed. It’s possible he felt the same way. Thanks to the Mods for explaining why they dropped the ax.

/me starts wondering how hard it would be to write a Dio script that wouldn’t get banned like the real one did…
