Holy crap! No more Dio?

How the hell am I supposed to scalp these tickets to the Dio Show now?

Wow. I can’t pretend I often (ever?) agreed with him, can’t pretend I liked his derails, but he was a fixture, and the board won’t be quite the same without him.

I’m really gonna miss him.

Or go to Giraffe’s board. I’m not registered there, but I’d be willing to bet he’s already posted a tract on how he got fucked over.

Either way. Eh, I say. I actually agreed with Dio on about 90% of what he posted, but I can’t say he didn’t earn this banning. And at the end of the day – as I’ve said before about others – he’s been banned from posting here; he hasn’t been executed. I don’t think we need to hold a vigil or anything.

Wow, every time I recheck on main page, there’s another comment/post in this thread. Wish I would have that for my own banning.

I’ll have you know that Gfactor is a damn good admin, and he’s a prince of a man who’s doing his best-

Oh.

::slinks away::

Didn’t take him any time. He was over on Giraffeboard talking about this before this thread even started. (To be fair, I opened the issue when I noticed Tuba’s banning announcement)

So far, no. One or two “They banned me over that one Oakminister comment?!” type posts, but no tracts, no screeds.

I can’t say I liked or disliked him but the signal to noise ratio of his posts was not good.

Ditto. Dio’s input led me to research and reading I never would have bothered with otherwise.

Eh. I’ve clashed with him plenty, mainly due to his refusal to listen to opposing points of view, and whilst I think it’s a shame it’s come to this, it’s entirely his own fault for not changing his ways when repeatedly told he had to. He was given more chances than anyone I’ve seen since I’ve been here.

 Do you even know what thread I’m talking about? It was a thread *denouncing *Westboro, Mr. I-Don’t-Read-but-Post-Anyway. No wonder you’ll miss the likes of the never-reading but nonetheless tornado-posting Dio. It was a thread denouncing the Westboro assclowns who decided to protest the funeral the OP’s personal friend. Dio came in shat on it.

Bring back the Wally emoticon, please.

Sorry to see him go. I’ll miss him, when he wasn’t ranting he had some good knowledge to share.

He did have a point in that thread. The tough-guy types who counter-protest at WBC protests of military funerals wouldn’t in a thousand years counter-protest at the funerals of gays. The fact that they get accolades for their work while still being quite obviously prejudiced is disappointing, and it made Dio angry. I understand that. But he should have expressed himself better.

Now, as for this banning, it’s a shock, and it’s disappointing but it’s not like the moderators weren’t patient with Dio. They were extremely patient, and he never changed. There’s a point where the rules must apply to him as well, even though he’s a fixture of the board (the most prolific poster, I believe), and even though he could be a really great poster sometimes.

Westboro Baptist/Dio link

Yes. I stand by my comments, and you can keep your Wally.

And that’s why it’s okay to respond to “Some idiots are protesting my friends funeral” with “Let me go on a tangent about an unrelated group of hypocrites who have nothing to do with your personal loss”? Righto, Bob.

Edit!

That’s not the thread I was talking about. I was referring to this work of art linked to by Tuba Diva in post #24.

Only call a Poster a fuckhead if they have warp drive?

Skald, do you have…never mind.

DtC impressed me with his knowledge on the religious threads. Learned a lot from him. His influence on my theological outlook influence me more than I care to admit. If a thread involved religion, I’d be there lurking. In that sense, I will miss him.

Outside of religion, however, he couldn’t stop with compulsive thread-shitting. When he started derailment-of-a thread-by-arrogance, I’d filter out DtC’s response, or just drop reading the thread altogether. So, in another sense, I will not miss him.

Yesterday, when I saw the moderator rebuke of DtC’s comment in the Sarah Palin thread, instinct told me that his days were numbered on this Board.

Surprised at the timing, but not of the action.

Sigh.

My very first post here, I believe, was agreeing with Dio and telling him how, as a fellow liberal, I greatly admired his posts’ passion and clarity; he was the reason I finally got an account and delurked after having read the board for years.

Unfortunately, the Dio I admired eight years ago is not the same Dio he became. Over the past few years his style degenerated. What had been resolution turned to stubbornness, then further degraded to plain mule-like refusal to accept experiences other than his own. Eventually the guy whose posts I originally sought out became someone whose appearance in threads I dreaded, because inevitably he took some ridiculously myopic position and stuck to it no matter how many perfectly valid arguments were made.

So while I’m not glad to see him go, I can’t mourn his loss. I’ve already mourned the loss of the more rational, reasonable yet still kick-ass poster Dio used to be.

Edited to add: I want to thank TubaDiva and the other admins/mods for allowing us this thread. I know it’s usually against policy to speak of the banned, but this does seem to be a situation that would generate some understandable reactions that do need airing. I appreciate their allowing us this space very much.
