Homeland: Starts Tonight On Showtime (Spoilers?)

My thought on that was that he was just trying to dissolve the guys face & hands to prevent identification. I don’t know if he was actually trying to dispose of the entire body. I would think that would take quite a long time.

Maybe not on the computer, but if all you have is an audio bug in Saul’s kitchen then you’ll likely get multiple confirmations that Saul and Carrie are working together.

The question was actually…what happened to Brody after he crossed into Canada and made his way to Venezuela (getting shot in the process)? Did associates of his current captor get him in Canada and spirit him away to South Am.? Did the CIA nab him and send him to SA for holding? How’d they manage to lose control enough that he would be shot?

Another thing… seems like alot has happened in the last 13 weeks. Is it possible that the baby isn’t really Brody’s and Carrie is just, well… crazy?

No, your question is how did Brody get from Canada to Venezuela. That’s somewhat interesting, but my question is the more interesting one of how Brody, Saul and Carrie can possibly restore Brody’s good name, especially given the video that showed him, in uniform, taking credit for the bombing.

They can’t and they shouldn’t.

Given perfect knowledge of everything that happened, most people (myself included) would consider Brody a terrorist who should be locked up. He strapped on a C4 vest to blow up the VP and other power players in Washington, murdering various people along the way during that plot.

Including the VP, ultimately, which lead to the bombing at Langley during the memorial.

Remind me; did anyone find the C4 vest? Was it traced back to Brody? Do they know about Brody hacking the Veep’s pacemaker? (BTW, Dick Cheney said the other week that he specifically avoided the type of pacemaker that could be hacked for exactly this reason.)

Pretty sure Saul is sending Brody back to the Iranians as part of his schemes there. (which would make Brody, like, a quadruple agent or something at this point).

Thinking about it more, I’m pretty sure Saul has kept Brody confined with this in mind the whole season. I assumed Carrie was keeping him safe, but that doesn’t make sense, since she had the whole map trying to find Brody on her apartment wall, so it was obvious she’d lost track of him (plus its hard to believe she would’ve allowed him to be chained up in a cellar).

I think Saul had his people grab Brody from Carries people (presumably with Brody getting shot in the kerfuffle), and told them to keep him confined in Caracus till he could get down there and send him back to the Iranians.

So, with all of this going on, is it clear that Nicholas Brody must have set some sort of record for officially having the suckiest life ever? One day, he’s just a Marine sergeant doing his duty in Iraq. Now, he’s a wanted terrorist with whom various governments are playing ping pong. How he doesn’t just step in front of an oncoming bullet is beyond me.

My reaction exactly. In how many different ways has this man been used?

Well, he’s got all the free heroin he can shoot, so its not all bad.

But yea, held by terrorists in a cell for five years, adopted son murdered by own countries drones, wife cheating on him with best friend, girlfriend is bi-polar, accidently knocked up bi-polar girlfriend, most wanted person in the world, suicidal daughter whose boyfriend is a psychopath, shot and then back in a cell. Guys going through a bit of a rough patch.

Man, this season is turning out to be brilliant. Loving it so far!

Question: Send Brody back to the Iranians? Was it the Iranians who were holding him in season 1???

No, he was held in Iraq by Al-Qaeda. (Though I’m not sure that Abu Nazir was ever confirmed as being Iraqi. I don’t see that information anywhere, though someone may recall if it was mentioned on the show.)

There is a link in that article to an audio short story, Phantom Pain, narrated by Damian Lewis. In it, he tells the story of his character’s journey from Canada to Venezuela. I’ll give a brief description in a spoiler box:

Carrie sends Brody to her friend June’s cabin in Canada. June used to head the PYSOP division in the C.I.A… She loads Brody in a shipping container, complete with supplies and chemical toilet, on a vessel headed to Honduras. There he is met by a mercenary who transports him over land through Nicaragua and Costa Rica to Panama. In Colon, they board a private boat and travel to the coast of Venezuela. The story ends with Brody swimming to shore, so we don’t find out how he was wounded.

I meant “back to the Iranians” in the sense that Nazir was apparently in cahots with the Iranian, either as an agent or ally. (IIRC, Brody was actually held in Iraq and then Damascus, and then brought to Afghanistan to be “rescued”)

Granted, I’m pretty sure none of that was mentioned in the first two seasons, and they’ve just kinda tacked it on now so that Saul et. al. have more villains to chase now that Nazir is dead.

Very interesting!! If that’s definitive they must have decided not to use any of it on the show… or Damian Lewis is a rogue actor.

This season went from circling the drain back to pretty interesting. I was getting worried there.

Apparently breaking into the CIA director’s house isn’t so hard. But at least Saul’s wife’s infidelity is playing into the main plot. Guess I shouldn’t hold my breath for Dana’s sideshow to have some sort of delayed payoff.

Obvious drama and protagonist importance aside, why do they keep bringing Carrie along on these critical stakeouts? At least without someone there to grab her so she can’t jump out of the car? It’s getting a little ridiculous at this point. Spoiler alert: she always goes rogue. Besides, she’s supposed to be a double agent, she shouldn’t even be there really.

Anyone else frustrated at the lack of subtitles for when they speak Farsi? Assuming it’s Farsi.

For drinking game purposes I think we’ll have to down an entire bottle if Brody ends up sacrificing himself to save Carrie and his unborn baby.

That kind of thing takes me out of the show. Really? The director of the CIA must have more a lot more security in real life. Not to mention, somebody moving a car laden with C4 around the CIA grounds unmolested seemed pretty far-fetched. And, of course, Carrie’s jaunt with Brody off the grounds and up to Canada would have been captured on a bazillion security cameras.

Also, I hope they give Mira more to do than gaze sadly at Saul every few episodes.

But yeah, after a rather boring start, season 3 is getting a lot more enjoyable.

It turns out there is another one, Carrie’s Run, which is advertised as a prequel to the season. You have to be an audible.com subscriber or do the free trial, though.
