It’s just turn 8:30ish, and the cat has hornked on the carpet. Happy Sunday!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do some cleaning. And since we are in that brief period in N.C. between “cold and nasty” and “lobster in a pot heat and humidity, plus an infinite army of bags assaulting us” , I shall open the windows when it warms up.
It’s currently 30 degrees outside with an expected high of 54 and partly sunny skies. I did open the window in the den for about an hour and just now closed it. I came down here and it was uncomfortably hot because the husband had been running the space heater in addition the heat coming from the vents. You’d think we have a cold house. We do not, it’s the husband who always feels cold.
Well, the dumpster is completely filled. We just have a couple of bags of old clothing and rags to toss in there and we’ll call it good. I completely cleaned out the clutter room, and three closets, plus got rid of the treadmill. There are two nightstands, a sectional sofa, bookcase, end table, foosball table, and lots of STUFF. I did not have room for the entertainment/TV stand in my office, but that’s okay. Also, the front hall closet is almost as big as a room, and there was a lot of stuff in there. Everything is down to a manageable level now. We’ll rent a trailer from Uhaul in about a month and get the rest of the stuff out of here. That will be two loads; large branches and yard waste, along with the last of the stuff from inside the house.
I am exhausted, but today I need to vacuum and steam clean the carpets, as well as pick up Polar’s prescription and probably more steam cleaner solution.
I really wish I could take tomorrow off, but I have two meetings scheduled, and I really can’t get out of one of them.
nellie, that is really sad about the poor dog. I really hope a solution is found soon. It’s too bad they can’t get a playmate to cut down on the pup’s loneliness, or take him/her to doggy daycare. Doggy daycare can be expensive, though, so maybe that’s not an option for them.
Up, but not yet sheveled. Looks like I’m spending the whole day with InCrPoo so quite shortly, I must needs purtify accordingly.
My Gentleman Caller had a hankerin’ last night for Majickal Intertubes Pizza (swampy did I spell that correctly?) and who was I to argue with him?
Two slices left over, soooo … pizza for breakfast it is!
Poured rain last night, and it’s well above freezing (should kiss 40 F today) so the slushy, dirty old snow is melting away.
Spring is coming.
… which means { ominous music } summer. is. coming { shudder }
Was a cloudy 46 degrees at the park this morning.
Nice morning, the dogs had fun, although not as much as when Bread is there.
Bread is supposed to be pitbull/gsd but she is grown now and probably weighs no more than 25 pounds. I think somebody lied. She has lots of energy though, and gets all the dogs in the park running.
I need to talk to the 3-pack mom. She was there but leaving when the park guy showed up. He said something to me that he has told her twice that she can’t bring 3 dogs to the park. One more time and she won’t be allowed to come back. I stood up for her and said she usually leaves before anybody else gets there so there is no conflict with her dogs. I’m going to tell her she might want to stop coming on Sundays when he is there. Once it warms up though, the park guys will be coming more often to empty the trash cans and replace the poop bags. This guy is grumpy all the time, well, tbh, he can be a real prick. I always tell him good morning and ask about his day, so he is not quite as grumpy with me.
I’m surprised he didn’t say anything to me about Ripple being off leash outside the park. I let him go from the truck to the gate off leash because he doesn’t go anywhere or bother anybody. The county has pretty liberal leash laws, except dogs are supposed to be leashed around the outside of the park.
He also didn’t look too happy about my dogs when they were in the cage. They sound horribly vicious, like they are going to kill the 3-pack. As soon as I open the gate, they are all fine.
My mother was supposed to get sprung today, but that has changed. She is not doing as well as the doctors expected and the stent may be in the wrong place. She’s not eating, but that may be because of ‘hospital’ food. She said it is pretty bad, so my niece is going to see if she can take her something that tastes good.
I’m sorry about your kitty Shady, 23 years is a long life.
When I was petting sitting, I watched a number of cats in their late teens and early twenties. Some of them were diabetic, another was so old and sick he had lost all his hair, but he was still going strong and enjoying life. There were two I remember; I think their food bowls had never been cleaned in their entire lives. The bowls were crusted and moldy with dried food. I washed their bowls for them and thought, watch, it’s been the crust food and mold that has been keeping them alive for so long. Now they’ll get sick.
I’m going to try to get a bunch of shit done around the house today.
The house next door had a bunch of crap taken out of it yesterday. It’s all piled on the cleaned off patio.
I think they need to rent a dumpster.
Last night I finished the laundry and successfully changed the bedsheets (I just put the old sheets in the washer), and earlier this morning I ran the dishwasher. Nearly all of my stuff is clean right now…I don’t want to do/touch anything.
It’s high noon here in lovely Northern Virginia, and currently 67 and overcast (alright, maybe it’s not so lovely). Today’s projected high is 72; like FCM, we’re supposed to hit nearly 80 tomorrow. Then things settle back into this area’s usual “highs in the 40s to 60s and it may or may not rain” pre-spring weather. The breeze earlier this morning was on the chilly side, but I was just outside again and it’s gotten more temperate. I see open windows in my near future!
Aside from general futzing around online, this morning I’m doing one of my new favorite things: ordering smaller clothes. I’m losing an average of 10 pounds a month, and while I’m not looking to get a lot of new clothes during this transition period I’ve lost nearly 40 pounds since my surgery and there’s no denying that it’s time for some smaller things. I already have new sweatpants and jeans, but now I need smaller leggings (!) and undergarments. When I bought jazz festival t-shirts I got them two sizes smaller than I’d been wearing, but I won’t get any other new shirts or blouses for a while longer: old tops are easier to keep wearing, because most of them look fine even if they’re loose/baggy (bottoms, though, quickly look bad when they’re too big). It helps that I’m not going out much these days and I’m only in the office one day a week, and that business casual has been replaced by casual casual.
Other than said shopping, today will largely consist of finishing the last season of Castle. Then I’ll need to figure out what to binge-watch next. It might be time to finally catch up on Bosch and/or Ozark, but I’ve also been thinking about starting The Shrink Next Door.
Happy Doperversary, Sahirrnee! (which I pronounce in my head as “sah-HEAR-knee”…am I even close??)
Time to open a couple of windows, relocate to the living room, and eat some lunch (tuna + Wheat Thins)…
Not sure who you’re thinking of, but Michael J. Fox is still alive. He’s still working, and his newest book was released in 2020.
Bailey’s are more like “mrf! mrf! mrf!” Cracks me up every time.
I was thinking of Michael Fox the actor who died of Parkensons in the late 90’s. I’m glad your Michael Fox is still hanging in there!
Right now I’m listening to hubs and GG discussing the sink full of ice and why GG should stay out of it. Well, hubs is talking but from the sounds of it, GG isn’t listening. I guess I could fix things by covering the sink or removing the cat…but it’s more fun listening to hubs.
Congrats on the smaller clothes. Are there any thrift stores around that you feel comfortable visiting? You’d be able to find nice stuff cheap while donating your oversized clothes to them.
Very wise advice! I’m too old to do things I don’t enjoy for entertainment.
And now I have to go help dry off our idiot cat who just did his first polar bear plunge.
Both of you are right. I am very happy to be wrong! He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the late 90’s which is what I was probably thinking about.
Taking an ice water bath didn’t seem to do GG any harm. I’ve got him locked up in the guest room with the radiator heater going because I don’t want him to get chilled. I also demonstrated that the sink could be covered with a large plastic bin so possibly this will be the last ice bath GG takes.
HEY! Once in a while, I’m able to get one over on a cat. It’s not often, but it does happen!!!
I’ve been trying to keep the neighbor’s cats away from my bird feeders and now have a rainbird sprinkler set up so when turned on with a gizmo attached to the tap and an app on my phone, it arcs between both feeders. This morning, one of her cats was laying right in front of the rainbird, so I pulled the app up while laughing maniacally and turned it on. My cackling stopped when I realized that the hose had frozen during the night.
Afternoon all. Ended up not going to bed until near midnight last night, just because I felt tired and my brain decided that my body wasn’t going it when to go to bed…stupid brain. Did sleep in until after 8am and had a Lone Star steak and fries around 11:30am, so not a busy morning. Temperature is already 78F, but the inside of the house is still cool; almost wish it would warm up faster.
Need to start laundry soon, the baskets are overflowing, but also want to get to the gym today, so will head over for my weights and biking regime about 2:30pm and come back home to do as much laundry as possible. Might not be a good plan, but at least I have one.
Unknown, would love to see the sprinkler in action sometime…when it’s warmer. And hope GG dries out soon.
Sari, some people just aren’t happy unless they’re unhappy–but keep up the good vibes, it may save 3-dog lady some hassles.
Taters, glad things are cleared out; easier to find stuff (or not find it because you tossed it out).
nellie, hope the neighbors are acting due to ignorance rather than callousness; maybe the call will finally make them take it seriously.
FCM, good luck with the splicing.
OK, need to find enough reasonably fresh clothes so the gym doesn’t toss me out and go get exercised. All y’all take care.
Got cut early from work. (Boo.) Took myself out on a walk despite the raw, chilly wind, so methinks some hot soup may be on the nearest agenda.
@sshole Manager vented privately to me about some stuff at irk that’s been frustrating him. Nobody likes him, so poor guy has nobody to talk with, and he’s been stuck playing Bad Cop while the other managers all get to play Good Cop.
I stayed fairly neutral, but damn if he didn’t elicit a twinge of real sympathy.
Oh, and y’all will be delighted to know that I already rolled the big bin out to the curb, so’s I wouldn’t forget again.
unknown, I hope that GG gets warmed up and dries soon.
Messed around in the studio and was quite productive today. I stuck the casserole that I had prepped in the oven and have broccoli on to steam. It’s back to irk tomorrow.
Have you considered thrift stores for interim clothing? That’s what I did - $5 jeans vs $40 jeans is hard to beat! Then you can donate them back a couple of months later! Win-win!
Home! I found the bimini - I’d put it in the compartment on the flying bridge. So now I can check it over and maybe do some patches to get us thru another year. I also measured our berth and I’ll shop for mattresses. The foam in there now is quite squooshed. And we measured another area that will become storage, once we figure out how to deal with it. Good trip overall.
We also got to talk to the guy who’s done a lot of the work on our boat. Next on the list is servicing the HVAC, then painting the bottom. Then I hope we can go in the water so we can bring it home. So I need to get splicing.
But once we got home, I grabbed a rake and cleaned out the leaves from the bed in front of the porch. It was 6 or 7 carts of leaves and sticks - I just rolled them into the trees in the front yard, hidden from the house by a forsythia hedge. And in full view of the neighbor’s yard. Too bad so sad… It’ll all pack down and rot after a few good rains. Tomorrow, I’ll rake out under the forsythia outside the front bedrooms. Then we’ll see if I have energy to do anything else. Especially after my day will start by being bled. Good times!
well talked to a vet and she said that unless she’s in pain just let her be a cat and there’s about a 30 percent chance she might shake most of it off …which seems to be happening she let youngest cat fuss over for a few minutes before she bopped her on the nose …its just hard making sure shes not climbing but she can still jump somewhat easily …
Today has been my kind of weather: lounge pants vs sweatpants, a t-shirt vs a sweatshirt (or layering a fleece), and no need to wear any socks. Ahhhhh! Bailey has also appreciated not being hurried when we’re outside. Late spring/early summer cannot arrive soon enough.
I finished Castle, but instead of any of the shows I mentioned I wound up re-watching the first few episodes of Elementary. I won’t re-watch the entire series, because it hasn’t been very long since the last time I re-watched it, but it was fun to remind myself of the early days of the Holmes/Watson relationship.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that shopping is any kind of hardship for me! I’m not concerned about costs. And I can donate things that no longer fit no matter where they came from.
(But yes, thrift shops are frequently mentioned in bariatric forums/support groups.)
I didn’t mean to assume anything about your finances, but I may have been projecting. In my case, I couldn’t see spending a lot on something I didn’t expect to wear very long. And the thrift store benefits people with disabilities, which is a plus to me. In the grand scheme of things, I mostly hate clothes shopping…
Just finished the last of the veggie soup. From here on, I need to hydrate since I’m a tough stick, having pretty much only one decent vein. After being bled, I think a McBreakfast will be in order, then a quick stop at Food Lion before returning home to rake some more. But that’s tomorrow. The rest of today is for chillage.
I cleaned. It got up to 80, so I had the windows open, and turning the fans to circulate some fresh air. Alex Catt got her nap on top of me time. And now for some hockey.
sari, i love the arguing dogs. “Everybody gangster, till the leashes slip off.”
Happy Doperversary!
