Hopin' for world peace in the MMP

Up, sipping a cup of tea and breakfasted. I had a rough night. Doc warned me that Tamiflu could (TMI alert) cause some intestinal disturbance and it hit around 2 this morning. In addition, my BG dropped below 70, so I’m doing reconaissance to get back on track. I foresee a nap this morning.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Ursala Kitteh is sound asleep and snoring……

Afternoon, mumpers! I have had a proper boring morning, writing some notes for a meeting with my stand-in line manager next week, and starting to work on performance/development reviews for my team. I have to do one of those as well but I’m using everyone else’s paperwork as a distraction from having to do my own.

Bumba and oopsie, sorry for the loss of your friends too, it has been a tough few days here.

shoe there’s something very special about the comfort of a purring cat.

Shadow was fully intending to spend his evening on my lap last night but I had plans to go out with a couple of friends. The cat got my spot on the sofa, I went to the pub and had a long discussion on the ideal method of constructing a dodecahedron sandwich. Yes, it turned out to be one of those nights.

nellie congrats on getting back to the gym, but take it slowly! We don’t want you injuring yourself when you’ve only just got that precious mobility back again!

red yay for getting the right treatment, but boo for the complications! Hope you feel better soon, and get a good nap in as well.

((Akiko))

Time for lunch here, There are two cats sitting on the landing giving me evil looks as their food bowls haven’t been looked at for at least an hour. Better go and fulfil my obligations…

Good morning everyone.

It’s 42 and cloudy outside. I guess it’s cloudy; it’s dark out and I didn’t study the sky.

boofae, I’m very sorry for the loss of your friend.

bumba, I am sorry for your loss too.

nameless, I am also sorry for your loss.

FCM, can Roxy’s school provide some kind of financial aid or discount based on the kids’ income?

I managed to talk to someone yesterday about the whole contracting debacle. Unfortunately, things will have to wait until Monday when my contracting officer returns from leave, but her boss did reach out to the lawyer who sent the nasty letter and that lawyer responded.

There was other drama yesterday, but I wasn’t involved. I offered to talk to one of the individuals, but the MPA decided to handle it on her own. Long story short; a program director was unhappy with the lack of access to a drive and wanted FULL access. IT doesn’t grant that because they’re afraid someone could wipe it, even though they supposedly back everything up every night. However, they do grant full read/write/edit access. Somehow this wasn’t good enough for the PD. I think she has something else going on and this kerfuffle just rubbed her the wrong way. Plus, although tickets had been submitted for some of her staff to have access to this drive, IT didn’t complete them. Somehow, this was the MPA’s fault. There aren’t enough roll-eyes.

Good grief, I am glad it’s almost Friday. Just one more wake-up till the rather full and labor-intensive weekend.

nellie, I’m glad you got back to the gym, but do take it easy.

Well, that’s all the news that’s fit to print. Onward with the day!

No - it’s a tiny little Montessori school. They used to give a discount for employees of BAE which is right next door, but even that has disappeared.

FCD got a haircut this morning and he’s now out in his shop. Working out there seems to be doing his body a lot of good. He’s walking better and his endurance seems to be building up. It looks like it’s doing more than therapy ever did.

He just called me out to the garden shed to tell me something was growing in a couple of pots. Turns out the Naked Lady bulbs that I thought had died are, in fact, quite alive. The leaves are very yellow, but all they need is a little sun. I just pulled them out and poured some water on them. I’ll get them planted on Sat. Them things are hardy!

The first ones I had were from the house I bought in Baltimore 40+ years ago. I shared them with my mom and she kept them alive and reproducing - these were from her! They’re pretty amazing plants, and really pretty, too!

Toby had a good breakfast and he’s just dropped off to sleep. Here’s hoping that’s a good sign.

OK, guess I should do something productive.

Okay, Chefguy, I can get behind the sriracha but peanut butter? I’ll need to test that out. But I agree on swampy’s assessment of MIracle Whip; that said, mayo is freaking delicious, albeit a bit jiggly.

I’m so glad you’re feeling better, red and that you’re starting to get to feeling normal, Nellie.

I feel like I’ve missed a lot and I didn’t read for just one day. Hugs to everyone who needs them.

I was at the hospital with my mom from about 9:30 until 4-ish. Nothing terrible happened, though she did not get her chemo since certain blood counts (white calls, iron) were too low, so she had a transfusion instead, which takes a long, long, long time. Most of it was spent waiting for her to be typed and screened, then waiting for the blood itself. The actual process of putting the blood from a bag into her body took around an hour and a half including flushing the line. 'Twas a long day for all involved. I felt like a bit of an asshat sitting there with my work laptop, typing away, but most time spent in hospitals is entertaining yourself while you wait for the healthcare system’s gears to churn.

Tomorrow we’ll be headed up to Iowa for dad’s memorial. On the superficial side of things, I have no idea what I should wear. The Great Amazon has sent me a long print dress with a black background and blazer and a pair of black pants with a cobalt blue top. Which one I choose will largely be based on how much I have to suck in my gut.

Off to work now. Hopefully a waddle or run shall be in the offing later.

hope everyone gets and feels better and damn cant anyone have a week or two without anyone leaving this world involuntarily we need a break …

PB and M on white bread is the bomb. My brother turned me on to that when I was a kid and I still have one on occasion.

Think of it as an Asian-style hot dog. The worst that can happen is it’s a cheap experiment and you’re not much out of pocket.

Morning all. All this hot-dog topping talk is making me hungry, so first meal of the day may be earlier than usual. Already in the 60’s and heading for 76F today, so spring is definitely in the air.

Gym today, so pushing some weights and riding the stationary bike is the plan. Not sure all this exercising is doing all that much, but I haven’t been taking naps during the day and seem slightly more aware. Hey, it ain’t hurtin’

Amen.

Safe travels, talky. Whatever you wear, will be fine. You’re there where you need to be.

FCM, I’ve always found Naked Ladies are pretty hardy and also beautiful…

Taters, you’re making me happy I am retired from office life.

OK, onward into Thorsday. Take care all.

Chefguy posted the peanut butter & Sriracha thing years ago. It’s good.

As for PB on hotdogs there did used to be a dedicated hot dog place here, for a couple years. There were a number of named dogs and one was the Elvis Dog. PB, banana, cream with a chocolate drizzle. The owner said he first put it on the menu as a gag, but it became popular and now he didn’t dare run out of bananas. I never tried one though.

Hey, no A-hole Manager today!

Let the cats out for a few minutes - it’s so sunny, and Nik’s old bones enjoy it even if it is chilly - so naturally, there’s a squirrel scolding from the trees.

Gotta brush my teeth and head off into the day shortly.

No shit, man.

No one:
Package Car #101:
< whir whir >
< BOOM >
< FOOSH >
< KRUNGLE KRUNGLE KRUNGLE >
< pfft pfft >
judging by the metallic grinding and white smoke, either old boy needs a new oil pump, or it just elected a new Pope.
It’s sunny and 74, so I have the windows open. Hopefully this does not invite an assault by The Invisible Mole People during naptime

Taters, sorry about the office drama.

So say we all.

Yesterday we boxed up books until I wanted to set fire to them all. I think we’re up to 14 boxes at about 60 pounds per box, and still one bookcase to go. The roof guy comes today to give us an estimate on moss abatement and gutter cleaning. The weather has turned for the better, so we can put the books we don’t want to keep out on a ‘free’ table. I need to start culling kitchen stuff. Already listed the cast iron pizza pan and the peel for sale, but most of it will end up in Good Will or in a ‘free’ box on the front walk. Hope to get the LPs out of here in the next few days also.

Thought this sounded familiar, and then I checked out the video. Now I know why I changed how I fold my underwear. I much prefer this method. But I don’t follow her method for bras. Doesn’t work for me.

Nellie, I am SO happy that you are walking about pain-free. This is the best news all week.

Coworker, who I had lunch with three days before her first symptoms, got a positive result with a self-test. Grumble. And there’s an article on the news site remarking that the number of positive reults are going up. Probably something to do with carneval.

I never give up any foods for Lent. My birthday’s always during Lent, and I will enjoy (at least try to), my birthday.

Definitely. Especially northeast (mostly east) of here.

Wanted to make Pasta e Fagioli for lunch today, but forgot to buy bacon. So first order of business was getting bacon. Husband reminded me of the old perfume commercial about buying bacon and frying it up in a pan. That was a few years ago.

We are now able to buy Dunkin’ Donuts at the store, so I bought a four-pack. The donuts are rings, but filled, which is rather interesting. Won’t buy them too often, but it’s an interesting change.

Work is work. President of the company sent information about what’s being done for our employees in Ukraine. I’ve never had any interest in visiting Kyiv, but now I do. Just not right now. Still no interest in visiting Russia.

Watched all of WandaVision in two evenings, and I think we’re going to watch some more Marvel stuff tonight. And then go to bed early.

Toby has been returned to his mother. I’ve got a poke roast covered in sauerkraut and onions cooking away in the oven - it’s smelling yum in here. I’m thinking sides will be green beans and instant smashed spuds (don’t judge!)

We got a refund check from the company insurance - the company that ceased to exist a year ago, made out to the company. I’m not sure how we’ll cash it. Dammit. I’ll let FCD figure it out. It’s too big to ignore - over $500. If it was under $20, I’d probably say the heck with it, but this is real money.

I also got an application for Medicare PartB - I guess it’s open season? But, nope, I don’t need it. The insurance I have from work is much better and cheaper than any of the supplementals. So that went into the trash.

FCD is snoozing. I think I’ll read for a while.

It’s been like living in Missouri again today. The severe thunderstorm warnings started at oh-dark-thirty and went on for several hours. Did any of them actually reach my house? Of course not.

My dogs continue to be mystified by this wacky new doggy door thing I put in. Presumably they’ll figure out how to get through it one of these days. Silly dogs.

You are a mad genius.

Terrible news today. I found out InCrPoo put in his 2 weeks notice yesterday.

:disappointed_relieved: :sob:

Crush aside, he’s a fixture at this place! Nooooo!!

(However, not to be predatory, but imma gun for his job … )

So, serious question: should I plant a kiss on him while I still have the chance??

Yes, yes, yes. And press a slip of paper with your phone number on it into his hand while you’re at it.
