Hot Dog! It's the MMP!

So, in case you’re wondering, I went to the orthopedist and found out that resting my arm was the absolutely worst thing I could have been doing. I need to be working on increasing the range of motion. I’ll be doing PT 3 times a week for the next 6 weeks, then back to see how I’m doing. She did say it could take 6 months to a year to get all better. Swell.

In other news, we had fresh Amish-grown corn on the cob and tomatoes for dinner. Yummerrific!!!

My daughter had her first road trip adventure today - they stopped at the World’s Biggest Cactus Ranch somewhere in Mississippi. She now has a cactus living in one of her cup holders. They’ll be somewhere in Texas for the night. So they might make it to Carlsbad tomorrow. Lucky ducks.

I need ice cream. Medicinal ice cream. Now. <sigh>

Wow…such book lists…and many that I haven’t read. I’ll have to go look and see what I might be interested in reading. I haven’t read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, but would like to read more. Gotta think about what books are on my list. I’ll have to go tour the bookshelves and my booklist and get back to you…

FCM, I keep meaning to tell you…one of my friends has a daughter who’s a little older than yours. She’s made a career out of traveling in the third world. Alone. Without much of a plan. So, really, you have nothing to worry about.

Bobbio, thanks for volunteering for next week. So kind of you. No, really.

I had a hot dog for dinner. I blame this thread and everyone in it!!!

Gotta get out to the garden for a while.

MsR I’m glad the dean thing went well. Here’s hoping she can help you with the financial thing. If you don’t mind my being [del]nosy[/del] inquisitive, how much longer you got in school? AIR you are majoring in journalism or broadcasting, right?

FCM The Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] is broadening her horizons. It will add to her life experience. She will gain knowledge that will aid her in completing her studies. Aw heck, the sooner she gets out of school, the sooner she can start working so I can retire. If it helps that along, then I’m all for this road trip.

I’m all bathed, nummy smelling and relaxed. I had some white muscadine wine. It’s slightly sweet and really mellow. This is why I need to go back to St. Augustine, so I can buy another case of this wine. The red was quite good too, but I only bought six bottles of that and gave two of 'em away, so I don’t have anymore red. I’m down to just four bottles of the white. I must go replinish! Actually, I can buy muscadine wine locally, but this is better than the local stuff. Plus I need to go back and drink from the Fountain of Youth again. It’s part of my master plan to achieve immortality.

You’d be surprised. There’s a decent market for “authentic” workwear around here. All the better to help people play out their fantasies involving “Jerry” from the gas station and getting a special lube job.

Actually, the market for used clothes here can be mind-boggling. I recently sold a pair of well-worn 501s on eBay for $38, which is probably $5 *more * than I paid for them new at Macys a year ago when they were on sale. I do the reverse with carpenter pants - buy 'em on eBay for ten bucks, then turn them around at the used clothing shop for $35. No idea why, but Carhartt seems to be taking over the city, one leg at a time. Guess that’s really two legs at a time.

We need to go in business together then. See, there this Carhartt outlet near here that I could get stuff from on the cheap. We’d be multi-millionaires! Filthy rich even! Obscenly wealthy! Or end up with a bunch of Carhartt stuff to give away as Christmas presents.

I have a gen-u-ine ACE Hardware shirt.

Anybody?

Hello?

[sub]Is this thing on?[/sub]

I have fallen behind here haven’t I? Turn my back for most of a day, next thing you know there’s freaks out there in Sunoco uniforms and such…

Well, we got all the workstations for my peoples at work replaced, the new routing application (ahem…“client”) up, then tried the data conversion, and got errors. On the line with the vendor in NY, we sent them the database, they’re going to “validate” it (see? I talk computer-ish now, huh?), send it back in the morning and our conversion should be all spiffy to run.

We had our freebie handyman finish here at home before 11:30 am. Got a new screen door, ceiling fan and some shelves in the laundry room. I thought of FCM while he was doing all this work, and momentarily felt something that felt a wee bit like guilt.

But it passed.

Now, I have talked the Wife into showering and taking me to get some wings and burr. Burr is how we say beer when we wear our Sunoco uniform, doncha know.

:dubious: Now I know who stole my chemises.

To clear things up, actually, the chemises were stolen in college. Which made more sense to me. I don’t want to know what they were used for. Actually, I’d prefer they were worn than the alternative. Even if being worn by some guy. At least I’d know they were being used.

And yes, wearing them probably leads to the alternative. Sue me for being hypocritical.

No word yet on the Sunoco uniform. When we went back to get it from the dryer the sign was still there.

Just back from the bookstore, and most of my list was not in stock. I got Deerskin, but the Girl wasn’t interested. She got Sunshine (same author), 1000 White Women, and a book of short stories. Guess I’ll have to order the others.

swampy - I’ve never heard of muscadine wine, but it sounds good. Who makes the one you like so much? I’d love to give it a try (and I love have an excuse to go to my very special wine store).

I’ve been looking for a pair of 501’s, and can’t find them anywhere! Next time you’re looking to lose a pair, let me know! (Hey, what’s your nickname, anyway, gotpasswords? Gots?)

Good luck with the PT, FCM! Are you starting right away?

Good evening MMPers![sub][sub][sub]He said pee! <snerk>[/sub][/sub][/sub]
Just another boring day a t work. I’ve had my nap, stir fried some chicken, and am having a beer.
Drae, if you want exercise, get a dog. You may or may not feel like biking, but you will gladly go for a walk to avoid an accident on the kitchen floor. YMMV
favorite books:
The Lord of The Rings J.R.R. Tolkien
The Bachelor Home Companion P.J. O’Rourke
Every history book ever written
Jahdra: The first time I read the dictionary, I thought it was a poem about everything.
FCM, did you daughter say where in Miss.? My parents live in Greenville. She could stop by: “My mom talks to your son on the Internet, can i crash here tonight?” :dubious:
** gots**, when I see a bunch of uniform shirts at the thrift store, I think “disgruntled ex-employee”.
Bumba, i still have my Phar-Mor name tags(Il ost the shirts)

I haven’t heard of muscadine, either. Is it good stuff, like Ripple or Mad Dog 20-20?

Hey guys, didja miss me? I’ve been so busy I didn’t even know there was an outage. We had our own here, until yesterday around 3:00 pm.

So. My son is now in his own dinky little apartment. He’s very happy. We’re biting back the doubt, and are giving him the chance to prove himself.

Yesterday I took him to the social security office, but with no picture ID, we couldn’t get a copy of his card. Today I took him to get an ID, with his birth certificate and a copy of his adoption and name change from 3 years ago. It worked! He has a paper ID, and the picture ID will be sent in two weeks. He can’t get a replacement driver’s license because it’s suspended due to warrants. He was very nervous what with the state troopers around, but last night my husband was assured that they don’t arrest people who are there to get ID’s or licenses. (He was there to get info for son.) But they also updated the info on the suspended license, because he never got the name changed after he was adopted. Whew! Still with me?

So it was a good day, and he is well on his way to becoming an upstanding citizen again. I am very relieved, too. He wasn’t scheduled to work today, but decided to “pick up a shift” so I drove him to his restaurant.

I also bought him a new wallet.

Ah’m tard. We went out to eat Chinese, but I can’t remember my fortune. My husband had an empty fortune cookie! He has no future, poor baby.

My vacation is almost over. :frowning:

All that hard work must have rattled your brains, vb. There’s nothing as good as Mad Dog.

Hey, Rebo, I meant to comment earlier. Hope everything goes smoothly with your son’s new digs and all. Glad you were able to work something out. At least it sounds like he’s taking some positive steps.

dogb, took forever to figure out your little hidden message; which made me laugh, of course. I like your vision of FCM’s daughter landing on your mom’s doorstep, too.

I read 1000 White Women a few months ago. It was a really interesting book; not sure that I can say I liked it, but it’s definitely worth reading. I keep thinking I should like the Lord of the Rings. I started to read it a couple of years ago (just before the first movie came out). It really didn’t do anything for me. I didn’t make it very far. I keep thinking I should go back and try again, but haven’t been able to yet. There are several books that I didn’t like the first time I read them, but liked much better upon second reading/attempt. Babbit and Heinrich von Ofterdingen are two that come to mind.

One of the best books I’ve ever read is The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald. It’s difficult to describe without spoiling it, I think. My book group read it and we all agreed that it was one of the best books we’d read in a long time (and we never agree on anything - that’s part of our charm). Parts of it should be really unpleasant. You can’t believe you’re actually reading what you’re reading, and at some points you wonder if youi’re really understanding it correctly, but the way she writes it is amazing. The experience is really difficult to describe.

Somehow, it’s my bedtime again… So off I go…

It’s almost Friday!!!

GT

And now it’s Friday. And the MMP was nearly falling off the front page!!! Was it something I said? :stuck_out_tongue:

Meant to say earlier that your classes sound like lots of fun, LiLi. Wish I had more time!

GT

I graduated from college in December and now am in grad school. I’m majoring in “communication studies” which is academic-ese for “now that I know how to be a reporter, I wanna tack on another $10,000 in student-loan debt so I can get a job that pays more than $10 an hour”.

The dean basically agreed with me that, since financial aid knows I’m a grad assistant, there is no reason to have to wait on a refund check. So I’m hoping she can sit on FA and get me a check pronto.

Robin

Sounds interesting, MsR. Do you have a special area of interest? What kind of job would you be interested in after grad school? I saw your thread about a GA manual; looks like a great idea. I was a GA about a hundred years ago and didn’t have anything to add, though…

GT

The muscadine wine I was drinking last night is from San Sebastian Winery in St. Auggie, Flardy. Good stuff. It’s a sorta sweet wine, so not so good for when you’re chowin’ down on say, a nice steak, but nice to relax with, like in the bath tub.

Grad school [sub]shudder[/sub] fun times that. I actually went twice. I was more masochistic in those days.

Bobbio this wine ain’t as sophisticated as MD-20-20 or Ripple. It has a cork instead of those convenient screw caps. I bought a nice red wine recently called Mad Dogs And Englishmen. I bought the wine just because of the name. It was really good.

For the nonce, I’m looking into teaching at the community-college level. I’m also interested in production, so the teaching (and grants) would fund independent projects.

Oh, and swampy, I’ll be done with classes in December, but I still have to write a thesis, so I’m looking at graduating in December, 2007 or May, 2008.

Robin

My old roommate once went out and came home with a bottle that had a brown paper label that said CHEAP RED WINE. It was surprisingly good, and I don’t even like red wine.
