Bump.
And I’ve got your ride, if you still need one, Robin.
Damn, this looks to be like fun!

Thanks, beatle. I knew the last part. My concern was whether I-45 to I-610 to Kirby to University was a decent way to get there. You can’t tell from a map just how many hundreds of traffic lights there are along the way.
Jim
Actually, Jim, there’s a better way. As you come north from Galveston, stay on I45 past 610 and continue on up to 59. Take 59 (aka Southwest Freeway) west (the signs say to Victoria). You’ll want to be on the left side of I45 as you enter downtown, but as soon as you peel off to 59 get over to the right (as 288 materializes on the left - you’ll be merging with traffic from 59 Eastex Freeway on your right), but not the far right lane, as that is the Fannin exit only lane.
The second exit, Shepherd, is what you want. Get off there prepared to turn left going under the freeway at the light. You’ll be heading south. Stay on Shepherd until you come to University. The light right before the one at University is Rice Blvd. In the block in between you’ll have Rice Stadium on your left. Turn right on University and go one block to the 4-way stop sign at Morningside, where you’ll turn right and start looking for a parking space.
Thanks! I got your e-mail and sent my address in reply.

Bippity, bumpity, boo. I’m getting so excited! Still looking for those Live Nude Girls.
This is the place were we went that time and did the thing with those people etc, right?
I’ll try to remember to bring my darts. So duck.
Irishman if you are thinking about Ale House it’s gone .
This is the place where Purplebear, MrBear, Little Nemo and Maiden unicorn came , and we went to the Big Easy for blues and BBQ after.
OK, we’re down to the home stretch, so we’re now blatantly trawling for Houston (and East Texas, South Texas, Cajun and traveling) Dopers. Hmmm…, never have managed to get starfish out for one of these. I think road rash might be a HouDope as well.
Yeah, sadly they destroyed the Ale House to build (get this) a parking lot for the Barnes & Noble. Destorying a 100 year old home and bar to make room for more cars to park in the ‘Old Kirby District’. Which is an odd moniker in and of itself because there is nothing old there except for the Yuppies who have crushed Houston’s art community in the Montrose and now they are gunning for Kirby.
What’s next? Midtown?
[sub]Oh wait, they already have turned midtown into 500 sq foot apartments that cost 1200 a month.[/sub]
I hear ya’ rob, there’s just nothing to be done about it right now. I will boycott their stores.
A couple of days to go…
Hey. I live in Midtown (I think. I’m not entirely sure. All I know is I get weird looks from the people at FedEx and UPS when I tell them my zipcode. And that Asian tea joint on the corner smells funny.)
It was a Borders who needed the space. Not that that mitigates anything. Parts of Houston are corporate enough; they don’t need to tear down landmarks to make it worse.

HouDopers if you haven’t seen this http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=89928 thread already check it out.
And in case (like me) your link to the above shows up in purple, meaning you’ve SEEN it, but you don’t yet have all of the threadid’s memorized, and you don’t want to tax system resources opening it again… it’s the one about Sealemon’s new baby.
T-23:30!
Eight hours and fifty minutes to go!

A quick bump to let everyone know that Bubble Girl and I will miss seeing all y’all.
Have fun for us!
I’ll definitely be hoisting one in honor of your crew, Sealemon and Bubble Girl.
