House 10/1

Yeah, I thought he saw that the car was a lie, but am interested in finding out more later.
Really like the PI.
They could pretty much write Chase and Cameron out of the cast - tho they have pretty much done so already.
Next week looks like a comedic road trip.

Next week is a rerun; week after next House’s father dies and Wilson drives House to the funeral. I knew it would take something big to reel Wilson back in.

She said she was planning on buying it, not that she had bought it.

I don’t understand the hate for 13, either (and comments on how skinny she is seem to me to be at least somewhat sexist and extremely shallow). She was one of the most interesting of the wannabees last year (next to Cutthroat Bitch). Most of that was due to her being a mystery and knowing the solution to that mystery has weakened that, but she seems just fine as a character.

That was established a year ago.

I also think the car was a last minute “shit, I got caught” thing. She was planning on leaving - that was her escape before the divorce money.

No, she said, “I bought you the car,” and then said it was being delivered on Friday. Which gives her time to actually run out and buy a car.

When they were wheeling the patient out and he said, “Tell Dr. Hadley I’m sorry,” did anybody else go, “Who the hell is Dr. Hadley?” I think we’ve heard or seen 13’s real name at least once, but nobody else has ever called her by it.

Another vote for the car not being the original plan for the money she was stetting aside. Poor guy.
I love the new PI as well, he seems to be House with a softer side, but I don’t think that Cuddy has eyes for him at all, she is just playing along. What I want to know is why else would a super hot, super smart woman continue to play these games with House unless she is in love with him. Any other reason at this point would seem kind of pathetic.
I am mostly glad that the PI has replaced Wilson as the side kick for the moment, Wilson’s character was starting to wear a little thin for me, even before his also house like girlfriend died.
13 needs to leave before her and her over zealous and disease addled brain kills someone. Though she seemed a little more sedate this episode. My apologies to anyone with Huntington’s, I just really don’t like her.
I miss Cameron far more than I miss Chase, but I like that they are together. I also like that Chase does all the surgeries, I find it greatly amusing.

I thought that she bought the car after their conversation too. And I interpreted his expression as having either figured that out, or wondering what she was hiding that would prompt the purchase. As a cheater himself, he probably bought her gifts out of guilt too.

Oh, I forgot to ask earlier - was anyone else impressed by the Harry Potter themed medical explaination? The artist wasn’t a toad, but it was the same thing Harry gets busted by Snape for not knowing about in the first book.

elfkin477 - My first thought was the Buffy episode with the bezoar. In fact, back at the Bronze, the old Buffy posting board, we called trolls and sock puppets Bezoars.

StG

And when the phone rang and the nurse said it was House, he said, "We’re done here."

I felt quite proud of myself - as soon as they mentioned Bezoar my wife said, “What?” I said, “It’s like a hairball” a split second before the dialog said, “It’s like a hairball.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Heck, I get so few things right I have to savor them when they occur…

I don’t know why I’m posting this as I can’t think of any reason why anybody could possibly care, but maybe it is to assuage my guilt?

Anyway, I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed House from the very first episode, and rarely ever missed one. I also have enjoyed the weekly thread on the program for the insights and varying outlooks on each episode.

Toward the end of last season i had come to believe it had just about jumped the shark, but stuck it out, and last week watched the first one of the new season, and well, I finally have given up, cold turkey.

Didn’t even turn it on last night, and now reading the posts here, sounds as though I did not miss anything that would have changed my mind.

It was a great, long run, and I doubt whether many fans will drop out, and if so will be replaced by new ones, so suspect it is good for a few more years. Wonderful concept, extraordinary acting by the main characters, and one of the few TV shows I watched regularly. Now, I guess, it is Netflix all the way.

I made a mistake earlier. Taub was not having affairs with his patients; it was with a nurse/nurses. His partners in his plastic surgery practice blackmailed him into resigning by threatening to tell his wife. It appears to me that in the last scene, “We need to talk,” he was going to confess.

Perhaps a small point to some, but I wanted to clarify. It occurred to me while I was out to lunch.

Thank you! That has been driving me crazy. I knew he looked like someone but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

So far, I like this season much better than last. By this time last year I was ready to quit watching. Only my undying love for Hugh Laurie kept me watching.

They really need to get the original ducklings off the credits. It’s been over a season since they worked for him. Maybe they could shoot a new scene of House walking up the hallway?

ETA: I really like the new ducklings. Way better than the old ones. I was unsure whether I did or not last season, but they have grown on me. Especially 13 - I like her character, a lot. Perhaps because she has a bigger part then making puppy eyes at House.

I don’t mind the new ducklings; I just wish 13 would put on a few pounds.
I do miss Chase and Cameron a bit, but I really miss Wilson. Thank goodness he’s back next week.

I just realized that I should have dated this thread 9/30.

I get a day ahead of myself quite often.

Ah, well. It came out all right.

Don’t get the hate for 13 either. And I still didn’t notice her weight even after others complained about it last week.

I also thought that the $$ in the drawer was a secret fund to escape from him.

I don’t buy the theory that Taub’s wife ‘got caught’ and bought the car to cover…

that theory begs the question, what was she saving for? the only logical choice to me is that she was socking away money so she could leave him. I’d guess that’s the most common reason a wife in a so-so relationship has a hidden account that she’s building up. Security. Especially for a non-working wife. That’s the only way they could foresee being able to afford to leave.

Now… Taub finds out about it… so, instead of leaving (which she was planning to do), she decides to spend all of the money on him??? :smack: bringing herself back to square one when it comes to being able to leave him. Why? To save face? So he wouldn’t get mad she was planning to leave? None of those really make sense to me. She must have actually been planning to buy him the car… and that amount of generosity on her part guilted him enough that he couldn’t be happy about it, and came to the conclusion that he needed to confess his indiscretions.

If she could hide the money from her spouse, she’d (in theory) end up with all of it in the event of divorce. Because her spouse wouldn’t seek to split it in the division of assets.

I’m sure there are actual cases where spouses secret money away in order to avoid splitting it. Of course, if House’s PI could find it, it’s not so secret. Can’t hide assets in a bank account very easily. (Hint: cash)

Maybe they’re planning to use the line: Hadley while House had had had had had had had Hadley’s had had had had a better effect on the patient of the week.

There was a repeated theme in the episode from Taub about how there’s no reason to confess something to someone when your lives are going smoothly. It’s selfish because you’re introducing strife into the other person’s life to relieve your guilt. (Not advocating that necessarily, just his POV).

At the end of the episode, immediately before his wife showed up, he asked the artist’s girlfriend if she was glad to know the truth even though it was negative and she’d been living in blissful ignorance. That scene was immediately followed by the unveiling of the car. It was Taub’s moment of realization about his views regarding hiding his cheating from his wife.

So I find it plausible that his wife was genuinely being nice.

Edit: One of the 8000 plot holes per week we usually expect on House - the artist was creating abnormal paintings every other month because he took the drug on and off. But as you can see, all his unsold paintings were stacked in the basement together. He didn’t notice, once he was off the medication, that his paintings were distorted when he went down to deposit a new one?
