House 10/10: Transplant

House is allowed a release to help the team with a unique patient, but he finds big changes when he gets back. Wilson is downright chilly, and there is a new resident on the staff.

I have never watched this show.

But I saw the previews for it on Sunday night when I was watching Fox.

The patient was a pair of lungs in a box?

WTF?

Is this type of … surrealness … a recent development for House, or has it always been this weird?

Anyone know what happened to it? Both my Tivo and my Comcast guide say it’s on at 9, but it’s not.

In Central Time zone, 11 inning baseball game pushed it back 50 minutes.

If I know my local station they will NOT interrupt the news for House and they won’t re-air it until some crazy time like 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Damn games screw up my Tivo. It’s a good thing I was here to notice.

That’s what I thought, but so far House is actually preempting the news.

I know! Yay! I actually enjoyed the episode too. I kinda liked new girl.

There’s generally a patient surrounding such organs.

One punch, and Wilson and House are back!

13 comes back, but whither Taub and Chase…?

People move on, they do that.
House: No they don’t
Me: House is usually right.

I (heart) Charlyne Yi! Can’t we have her and Olivia Wilde?

I didn’t like this one at first, but as it went on I liked it more. I love his new “team” (she’s got spunk!) and I liked the fact that by the end he and Wilson seemed to be back on their way to friendship. I was getting really tired of “let’s dump on House.”

I think my favorite lines were at the end (paraphrased):

House: I know this new vegetarian place…
Wilson: Screw that! I want a steak!

BTW, by me Olivia Wilde could just never come back and I’d be happy. I don’t like Thirteen. Taub and Chase can come back, as long as they keep the new girl.

What I want to know is what wackaloo universe is this show set in that Forman is suddenly the DEAN OF MEDICINE?!?!??! Are you kidding me? That’s nuts.

Serioulsy, I feel like the writers are phoning it in a bit here - could they not have cast a more probable candidate when Cuddy left? Forman was a senior resident about 2 seasons ago - how does he make the leap to Dean in two years? Having met a large number of medical deans - uh, yah. Not likely.

I did like the bits with Wilson though - House needs a friend.

What’s with Fox cutting actors’ wages though? Are they just a shitty network to have your show on? Or is the lame-o way to cancel a show without actually cancelling it?

Anyone know if it’s even possible to keep a pair of lungs alive like that, even for a short time, or have they jumped the reality track completely?

Forman said they were in “suspended animation”? Is that a new thing now, rather than just a SciFi buzzword?

I’m skeptical of the whole premise.

I kind of liked the episode; I liked Charlyne Yi’s character, and I love Wilson, but I’m definitely getting a “This is our last season” vibe from the show. It was good while it lasted, and now it’s (almost) over.

I had to step out to find the cat-could someone spoiler the last 7 minutes for me?

He used radiation to fix the lungs. The new doctor decided to stay and not go to Chicago. The patient was saved and seemed to be having a reunion with her ex. Foreman gives House his office back, with all his stuff (though he didn’t get the adjoining conference room. Wilson comes into House’s office and punches him in the mouth, then asks him if he wants to have dinner later. House says something about a new vegetarian restaurant, to which Wilson replies, “Screw that, I want a *steak.”

“Step out to find the cat,” eh? I’m just thinking of all the things that could be a euphemism for…

Let’s see, the problem was eosinophiliac pneumosomethingorother, caused by the donor being basically fatally allergic to cigarette smoke, which he was exposed to in large quantities at the all-night poker fest. They treated it, the lungs got healthy, and they transplanted them into the recipient. Foreman “found” House’s stuff in storage (which smacked of a reward for being a good boy) and House got his big office back (but with no place for 13, Taub, and Chase). Wilson came in and punched House in the nose, then they decided to go have a steak dinner together.

ETA: Oh yeah, the Asian girl decided to stay at the Plains Princeton and have her hearing, and called her dad to (we assume) tell him what is going on.

Wilson said he’d come by House’s place to pick him up for dinner, which raises the question of how House still has a “place.” He managed all his rent/mortgage/utility payments from prison? Did he not have to pay any kind of restitution to Cuddy? Plus he had a cell phone; I assume Foreman provided that for him. This is the kind of shit I think about.

I’m not even going to talk about the medical license.

The “Polite Dissent” website provides medical reviews of each House, MD episode. In their review of House — Episode 2 (Season 8): “Transplant” the physicians were also initially very skeptical, but upon further research found that, although very rare, the overall concept is plausible.
