In which…House disrupts a support group for the disabled; finally figures out that a cyclist has myasthenia gravis, not cancer or doped blood; and fights some more with his ex and her new beau.
I enjoyed the scene between Cameron and Wilson, each telling their infidelity story. Especially the look on Wilson’s face when he realized that Cameron was eating herself up with guilt even though she had never had sex with the other guy.
I don’t know about silly, but House certainly seems very petty when he does it. Not that we all haven’t been there (at least emotionally) after a relationship ends.
I’m guessing her circle of friends is distressingly close to House’s circle, so she needs to find somebody completely out of that loop, if his behavior towards Stacy’s husband is any indication.
I loved the husband’s parting line, though:
“It’s not the size of the muscle, it’s where I get to put it that counts!”
At the end of the episode, Wilson is shown on the couch of his office reading an old Bill James Baseball Abstract. Why he would relax reading a 20-year old (approximately) book like that is interesting. I wonder who decided to use that as a prop?
Maybe the same reading I might pick up a book on etiquet from 1890, complete with instructions for the new bride on handling servants, or a ebook scan of a 1930s boy scout manual …
Not everybody reads Oprah’s best seller list, or the new york times bestseller list …
heck, I was thrilled to get a copy of a 1960s nancy drew novel and a 1960s spindrift island novel at the flea market a few months ago =)
[fwiw, jonny quest cartoon came from the spindrift island series … sort of a science geek version of hardy boys]
But there’s never been anything established about Wilson’s character to say that he likes sports or baseball. I think that it’s more likely that it was a favorite prop of someone in the crew.
Just the other day, I was looking at Roger Treat’s “Official Encyclopedia of Football” for information about players, so I don’t find it unusual that somone would pick up an old reference book. And Bill James – whatever you think of Sabermetrics – is a very entertaining and provocative writer, well worth rereading.
I did feel that House’s going into confidential records crosses the line, though.
I love House (both the show and the character), but he was really an asshole this episode. I mean, he’s usually an asshole, but this episode he was an asshole! And it looks like more of the same for next week!
Cameron is becoming a master of time-suckage on this show. They either need to show more kick-ass Cuddy and less stupid whiny Cameron, or get Cameron to drop the moral superiority, the moping over House, and the totally unconvincing mentions of her PoorDeadHusband at weird, random, not-fitting-at-all times. She could be a good character.
I hope there’s an episode soon where we get some story on Foreman, who lately seems to be the only one focused on anything resembling his job. What happened to the juvenile delinquent/car thief history?
I spent most of the episode getting pissed off at the characters. Cameron needs to drop the holier-than-thou bit, House has crossed the line from amusingly snarky to big-time asshole and Stacy should be more professional than to interrupt House when he’s with a patient to berate him. Surely that conversation could have waited a few minutes. I never would have admitted it back during season 7, but it was nice to see Andrew from Buffy though.
We watched it this morning (THANK you, Tivo!). He’s a charming, civilized guy, quite funny. But I kept alternately seeing bits of each of the two characters of Prince George and House surface as he spoke, which sensation was quite weird.
Actually, I kind of like this. He was dangerously close to being another one of a thousand crusty yet lovable characters (Lou Grant, the sergeant in every cop show ever, etc.), especially when he apologized to Stacy. I like the idea that he’s a true misanthrope with real character deficits.
What was that comment about Oscar Levant and Noel Coward? I was still laughing so hard from the “it’s not the size of the muscle” comeback that I didn’t hear it.
