House 3/9

Tonight we see a mouthy, offensive patient who’s quite a bit like our doc.

Can they really do major brain surgery without messing up your hair even a little bit? I know, on “Star Trek”, but on “House”?

I really dug this episode, especially the House/Wilson bits. However, I find myself more excited for the next episode, which on preview:

seems to be a take on Oscar the Death Predicting Kitty. I can’t wait to see House with the cat.

I’m interested in getting to know Wilson’s brother Danny.

As usual, House/Wilson = interesting, Foreteen = tiresome and unbelievable. I liked the POW (to wife: “I knew you wouldn’t have sex with me if I didn’t go on that stupid breast cancer walk”) but of course the writers used it to humiliate Cuddy, who always obliges by getting all upset and stomping her pretty little foot. Yawn. Dear Cuddy: Please either stop making such a parade of your tits and ass, or learn to deal with it better when people notice them.

I liked that scene at the end when the POW congratulates his wife on her promotion and you can see that from now on she’s going to have to make herself believe he’s sincere whenever he says something nice to her.

I don’t think Cuddy was humiliated or upset. When she was walking to the elevator and House was asking her if she liked hearing the stuff the POW was saying, right before the doors closed she had a smirk on her face which I took to mean that she enjoyed the “compliments.”

I didn’t notice any “Foreteen” stuff, which was a nice respite. I liked learning more about what motivates Wilson, and the fact that House always seems so off-hand about his patients, but when he’s talking on the phone to hte team, he really doesn’t even notice Wilson leaving, even though he wanted to be with him.

Good, not great ep. I wish there’d been a clinic patient.

The patient was hilarious.

To Taub, about his affair:
“Maybe they don’t know - maybe they’re idiots!”

To his daughter, with his wife standing right there:
“Honey, I’m not saying you’re stupid. Your mother isn’t the sharpest crayon in the box, and she does fine!”

First Dutch Boy shows up on Burn Notice, now he’s on House…nice to see him getting work, but damn it gets confusing.

This was maybe the best Wilson/House episode so far! Awesome!

There were a couple of “Fourteen” lines, like when Foreman told Thirteen he thought her pistons were second to none. Thankfully, that’s all it was, just a little casual flirting.

I def. loved the Cuddy/House moments, because it’s great to see the smile on her face right at the end, even if its a bit obvious.

And yeah- House/Wilson was another great dynamic… I was half expecting at the end though that Danny was going to become the next patient that House would end up seeing and trying to “fix” to help Wilson out… though it’d be much better as a two parter for a season finale to set up an interesting next season with some GOOD news for once.

The House/Wilson parts were good, but I found the whole “I don’t like monster trucks”/“We’re going racquetballing” to be artificial. If Wilson had just said that his brother was sick and familial obligations forced him to cancel, he wouldn’t have had to get into the whole roundabout lie that he would have to know would be uncovered when monster trucks were on the line, or he could have gone with the lie that’s 99% truth and would thereby not have forced him to reveal the deeper stuff that he didn’t want to talk about.

She smiled to herself after House asked her if she didn’t enjoy the attention, so it’s hard to see where the idea that she was upset comes from.

I thought it was uncharacteristically mean of Wilson to claim that the reason he wasn’t going to watch monster cars was because he was enjoying an activity House couldn’t participate in anymore. It wouldn’t have been cruel if it were actually true, but to use it as an excuse wasn’t like him.

While House was House, he was a nice House - he did something, while a bit crass, to make Cuddy feel better about herself - He worked Wilson to get Wilson to open up - he was genuinely concerned for Wilson’s health, He arranged surgery for his patient out of concern for the patients “family”, He went with Wilson as support, helped Wilson understand stuff, and even agreed to meet Danny.

All of these things makes me wonder where they are hiding the pod.

I liked this episode quite a bit. The POTW was fun, the ducklings each got a little attention without getting annoying, and the House/Wilson interaction was well done. They didn’t pile on the implausibly constant medical emergencies as much as usual, either, which was nice. A big step up from the last few episodes. I immediately noticed that the racquet was for squash. At first I thought there was a decent chance that it was an error on the part of the prop people.Taub was bouncing it off the wall pretty well, though, given the setting.

I wish they would let Wilson beat House in mindgames every once in awhile, though. It’s a little too predictable that House is always going to come out on top.

I really liked this episode. Great interaction between House and Wilson, and the part about Taub’s nose (personally, I LOVE Taub’s nose). The best part was House talking about how the patient was alienating all the people he cared about . . . an obvious moment of self-reflection.
