Chase got his feelings hurt when Cameron accused him of sabotaging Foreman’s interview for petty reasons. When Chase remembered that it was Tuesday, I thought he was going to slam Cameron instead of giving his usual declaration.
Too much iron in his blood - hemochromatosis. That’s it. Nothing to explain the rage. Which means that the parents of the chess kid who was beaten to a pulp should be filing assault charges.
And telling from an acting standpoint on who delivered it the best. IMO Hugh Laurie won the Gold, Cuddy the Silver, Wilson the Bronze, and Cameron didn’t qualify.
Man, what was the point of that whole ending scene with Piper Perabo last week if they weren’t going to make anything of it? I was all set up to enjoy some House-dating-somebody drama, too… :[
You know why people like House but not the kid? They’re both mean, but House is actually funny. The kid was sometimes slightly witty, but mostly just immature. Mean without funny is boring.
Nah, there’s more to it than that. Funny mean gets tiresome after a while, and we’re not tired of House yet. House shows his humanity every once in a while. Maybe the kid had some, but he sure didn’t show it.
About that…you know how you keep asking who your real father is…
I still think a scene in the accusing parlor would have been better. Or maybe in the angry dome…
House is also unpredictable. He’s admitted to addiction, whacked Wilson in the leg with his cane, dosed Wilson’s coffee, played the piano at home, faked cancer, and…well, you get the picture.
That’s part of what makes him so interesting and never tiresome.
Now, call me crazy, but wouldn’t iron be one of the standard things tested for in blood samples? Maybe not at first, but knowing that iron DOES cause organ failure, and he had multiple organ failure, shouldn’t they have tested for it much sooner, even if they thought being an asshole was a symptom?
The tests that can detect hemochromatosis are the transferrin saturation test and the serum ferritin test. These are not tests that are routinely given to all patients; they are only ordered when hemochromatosis is already suspected. In this case, the patient’s unpleasant, hostile personality was initially thought to be caused by whatever was ailing him, and hemochromatosis didn’t come to mind immediately because it does not typically cause personality disorders.
Chiming in late – just watched it on TiVo last night. I really liked this episode – I mean, I hated the kid (what a prick!), but I like how they’re developing Chase’s character. They’re not making him out to be such a slacker or a yes-man. And I loved how he said, “I like you” to Cameron, all begrudgingly. As in, “I still like you, just not as much right at this moment.” That was cute.
I think part of the difference between House and the kid is that House is not mean all the time. The kid is just indiscriminately, ceaselessly mean, even if it costs him. And he’s not funny. House is frequently funny, and while he’s usually inappropriate, he’s not always mean. And he usually knows when to bite his tongue, even if he only does so when it benefits him (as opposed to not wanting to hurt another person).
I thought he showed a little bit when he started pissing blood.
I think Foreman might take that “parallel but independent team” deal.
My question, for which I don’t want to start a new thread: Is House evil, as Foreman says?
To me, evil means making life worse for people, either as your goal or with full knowledge that what you’re doing will result in people’s lives being worse.
So overall House is working to heal people, not for the sake of healing people but for the sake of solving the puzzle. Lives improve even if people are offended or hurt along the way. The net effect is not a worse life.
His treatment of his staff? Is Foreman’s life worse? According to Cuddy, he’s learned under the expert and is a better doc for all the crap he puts up with. House wants his people to stand up to him; he’s not trying to make them feel worse about themselves.
Evil, as Foreman says? Sociopathic, as he implied?
Actually, hemochromatosis was one of the first diagnosis’ that was suggested, but it was smacked down immediately because it didn’t fit the personality disorder symptom. I noticed it because I need to go get tested for it. (Thanks for the explanation pinkfreud, as the doctor basically threw the prescription at me and left before I could ask any questions about the tests.)
I am, too. I like Omar Epps a lot, but the character of Foreman is often tedious, and I just don’t care much whether he leaves or not. Now, if they hinted that Wilson might leave, that would hold my interest. Or Cuddy. But Foreman just doesn’t add that much to the show, IMHO, and I’m not agonizing over the possibility of losing him.
Hey, I didn’t mean to imply that I thought Wilson or Cuddy ought to leave. Only that the threat that it might happen would keep me interested, in a pins-and-needles kind of way. But with Foreman, I just feel kinda “meh.”
