How are gas prices in your area?

When I filled yesterday (5/5) Reg $4.50; Prem $5.03; Diesel $5.14

A few days ago at the same station, 5/4/26 $4.99/gallon.

In a few weeks, I’m driving to the East Coast from Chicagoish. I probably will not even look at the price as I gas up during the trip. Ignorance, guide me!

4.399 today, diesel at 5.099.

$5.33 87 cash.

$5.199 at the tribally-owned 76 station yesterday. That’s the cheapest place.

Not that I would ever defend the Great Orange Buffoon, but keep in mind, as a matter of perspective, that gas prices always rise in the spring because of a combination of increased demand and, in more northerly climes, the higher cost of summer gas formulations. The Iran fiasco is making these cost increases much worse, but to some extent they would have happened anyway. Also making things worse domestically is increased US oil exports to try to partially compensate for lower supplies from the Middle East.

Of course defending that guy is silly. IME $3.50 at the beginning of March, and $4.99 at the beginning of May says it all.

Not perfect but this link (and I don’t have the time to go back and triple check)

Shows May 26, 2025 (so almost exactly a year ago) the national average was $3.228 compared to $4.581 today May 7, 2026. So we have a season-to-season match. Sure, inflation is and remains a thing, but that should be a good point of comparison. Let’s say we round the prior up to $3.581 for nice easy math, and we’re still looking around $1/gal increase (huge fudge factor, duh) from the Trump’s war. Note, this is also in line with @bobot’s point - around $3.50 at the beginning of March would be within the realm of rounding of last years seasonal pricing given inflation, and everything else.

Feel free to dig for more detail, but that’s still a TON to be pointed directly at Trump’s initiating the War (leaving out Israel for the moment) and TACO at every occasion once Iran stood up to the Bully.

Woke up to this in an email sent to loyalty club members:

Regular price, $4.39, discount 40 cents, minus an additional 10 cent loyalty coupon, I paid $3.89/ gallon.

Woohoo!

I bought gas yesterday in Batavia, NY. (No, I wasn’t there checking out the dog shower.) Batavia’s usually a town that has good prices for the region. I paid $4.46 a gallon. I did see a place afterwards that was offering $4.39 if you paid cash.

The tribal 76 station was down to $4.789 since Friday morning. Arco is still $5.299 (credit).

The cheap stuff is $6.00 on the corner here.

Price here dropped 10 cents sometime this week. A bargain at $3.89.

I’ve been to Batavia! I still have a craving for the Beef on Weck at O’lacy’s.

We were actually visiting friends in Pavilion but Batavia is where there was a hotel.

We’re over $5 in suburban Cook County, IL now; the station near my house was at $5.09 when I was driving home tonight. Further west in DuPage County, where the county tax is less, it’s now $4.99 pretty much everywhere.

Yesterday morning, they were $5.299. In the afternoon they were $5.199.

I haven’t looked at prices in Bellingham, but they have always been quite a bit higher.

Regular unleaded has now topped $5 a gallon in many stations in Chicagoland.

Holding steady.

Right around $4.00 for regular unleaded here in Dallas, and that’s a 40 cent rise since this time last month.

Diesel is in the 4.90-4.95. range. Don’t know how the price has changed on it.

Fluctuating around 5.75 central coast California.
