I heard Trump is proposing to suspend the gas tax. Though it would provide some relief, the lost revenue will be astronomical over time. What is the status of that right now?
And that’s only like $0.18/gal. For me, that a savings of two bucks a fillup about. Better than a kick in the balls, but not really all that much of a dent into my gas expenses.
Estimates I’ve read say that the Federal gasoline tax generates a bit over 2 billion bucks each month. That would definitely put a hit on the highway trust fund, which is already bleeding massive amounts of red ink.
Huge price yank in Ohio today, to $4.89. I just got back yest. afternoon from a trip to NJ, and there is a Meijer’s in Youngstown that consistently has cheap prices-during the valleys (recall Ohio is a price cycling state), and I knew from Gasbuddy that it was going to $4.14. So sweating it as I drove knowing the yank was imminent, and my heart sank when I saw the Sheetz right off the highway @ 4.89. But most everyone ignores Sheetz and only pays attention to Speedway as the pied piper of price yanks, and Meijer was still $4.14. So $5.14 for premium - $1.00 from using my accumulated points - 10 cents from my Meijer credit card = $4.04 fillup, saving me close to 10 bucks. I am hoping they’ll add a $2.00 off per gallon special for 20,000 points at some point…
This morning Speedway was also at $4.89, which will represent an overall 37 cent jump statewide. Note none of our neighboring states have moved up a single cent yet (Ok, Kentucky up 4 whee), tho wholesale is up nationwide 25 cents over the last week. Crazy thing is, people would have to KNOW in general to top off at every opportunity in this environment to avoid the next new huge jump, but I am sure if I were to go out today I’d see a lot of people at the pumps.
Galveston/Houston area - Prices near me have been fairly steady at around $3.80 for a couple of weeks, but today a Kroger and an HEB came down to $3.69.
