Still recovering from a recent hospital stay. Have a doctor’s appointment on the 5th. Husband is doing all the hospital cooking.
Not in the US, but I am in Canada, where we had a long weekend too, given that Canada Day was Friday.
So, Friday and Sunday were spent at the local track, where I netted a grand total of $4 on the weekend. But I had a lot of fun with friends, had a few cold draft beers, and caught up with a few people. Great weekend!
Enjoying the weekend immensely! Celebrating the country and thankful to be living in the best era in human history. Have traveled in eleven states since May, and spent last evening tending my grill while watching boats roar up and down the Ohio river. Flags and happy people everywhere. Headed to Sandusky this morning to celebrate with family for the next week. Nothing but bbq, boats and good cheer planned!
Congrats to QtM on retirement!
Spent a frustrating Sunday evening at my father in law’s house trying fix/replace his broken mailbox in the sweltering heat. I asked my wife if I needed to bring any tools, “No, dad has tools.” He’s 92 years old and dodders around like Tim Conway’s old man character, so it took half an hour just to find a saw, a pry bar, and a screwdriver.
Then the phone rang at 1:30 am, which is never good. It was my mother in law’s memory care facility - she fell while getting out of bed. (We’ve lost count of the number of times she’s fallen in the two years she’s been there.) They took her to the hospital and found out she has a broken neck. (And who knows if there are other broken bones to boot.) So they transported her to a hospital in KC, and we will likely be up there all day.
So, no… I’m not really enjoying it at all.
Oh Shoeless, I’m sorry. BTDT with my dad years ago, same scenario - it’s so hard. I hope for the best outcome possible for her.
I had a lovely weekend visiting a friend in Atlanta. We ate our weight in shellfish and seafood (oysters, yummmm!), drank superb wine, drove up to Athens and did some sightseeing while looking for property for a friend of hers, and had a great trail ride with lots of galloping at the place where she keeps her horse.
I do have to go to work today, my store only closes three days a year. But, I’ll get eight hours holiday pay on top of whatever I actually work so I’m not unhappy with it
weekend was fine until the end. I love fireworks displays and attended one that was awesome as usual. Which got me home late. The problem is that I have extremely patriotic neighbors who set off fireworks for hours on end for a about week before an a week after the 4th of July (and every other possible fireworks holiday) usually they are sort of reasonable and quit around 10 or 11pm. Not on the 4th, they went on until 1am at least booming through headphones with ease. completely disregarding anyone having to get up and go to work on the 5th. The police don’t do anything except to those stupid enough to set them off right in front of a policeman. Fireworks bigger than a sparkler or a firecracker are illegal.
…and he shoots and scores for the win as time expires!!!
Congrats to you, Qadgop_the_Retired_Mercotan!
I had a nice weekend.
Saturday: wife went out with a friend, I goofed off and avoided all chores. Crab boil for dinner
Sunday: Went to BIL’s lake house, kayaked and fished
Monday: went to other BIL’s house for swimming in pool and fahitas
I had fun at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in DC. I’ve been wanting to go for years, but the last few years it was canceled.
