I loved the new mini-series of Battlestar Galactica, and now I want to see the series.
But DVD #1 is marked “Very Long Wait” on my Netflix queue. All the others are “Now”. How can I get #1 without purchasing? I’ve already tried the video stores in my area to no avail…

I’ve been working my way through Battlestar Galactica from Netflix. I’ve gotten the miniseries and disks 1-5 of the first season in the past 2 weeks with no delays.
I’d say put it on your queue and see what happens.
I agree, give the queue a shot. Almost invariably that “very long wait” is no more than a week or so. I’ve had only one that took longer than that, and it was less than a month.
If you’re desperate, you could get the first few eps off iTunes, I think.
And welcome to the BSG roller-coaster. 
I did the same thing just before season 3 started - watched the miniseries and seasons 1, 2, and 2.5 via netflix. Even 2.5, which was released only days before I got to it, was available pretty quickly. Go ahead and give it a shot.
I did end up having to download the first double-episode of season 3 from Itunes for $1.99, but even if you had to download all four episodes on disc 1 that’s less than $8.

Confirming that Netflix has a different definition of long wait than most of us. Da Ali G show first disk was a ‘long wait’ last Friday, but will be in my mailbox tonight.
