I just logged on to the boards maybe 20 minutes ago. The message said "welcome back cheezit, you last visited 5/11/01 at 6:32 p.m. (my time). That is just not a possiblity. I haven’t even been on the internet since very early this morning – 4:30 am (my time).
How is this possible, considering the fact that I am the only one that knows my password? And I have not been logged onto the net all day.
Things that make you go ---- HMMMM! Any ideas? I had been logged out of the sight and I just logged in, as I said.
On second thought, maybe my sig explains it all, I don’t know. However, I am still perplexed.
Are you the only one who uses your computer? If not, does anyone else who uses that computer visit the SDMB? If someone else visits the SDMB on your computer, the last question is: Do you “log off” of the SDMB when you leave? If you don’t, and someone else visits the SDMB on your computer, the cookie is probably tied to your username.
Are you certain your timezone is set correctly? Check your profile and see if your offset from CST (Central Standard Time in the United States) is correct. CST is GMT-6.
Checking cheezit’s profile, he’s in Oregon, which would be most likely be Pacific time, GMT -8, or Central -2. If we assume that he accidentally set his time to +2 instead of -2 in his profile, then that’s a maximum of four hours discrepancy, not fourteen hours as stated.
Here’s a possibility, cheezit: Are you sure that it welcomed you by name? If you’re not logged in, then the board doesn’t mention a name, but give the “last visit” time based (I think) on the last visit by someone with that IP number. If you’re using a standard dialup connection, then anyone with the same ISP could ptentially have had that IP number before you and visited the board.
Lemme run this over to the techs, see what they have to say about it, if anything. No answer on the weekend, of course, so hold on 'till we’re in the workweek.
However, I am still perplexed.
