How do you shower?

Daily Shower routine:

Mr. Toes and I take our shower together. It saves water and we rarely get alone time so we multi-task. I start the shower and lather up my hair. Mr. Toes gets in and rinses while I scrub. Rinse hair. Next is face and neck. If I’m conditioning that goes on next. I lather up starting with my chest, arms, shoulders and work my way down. A big rinse of body then a cold rinse of just hair if conditioning.

I’m currently using Prell concentrated shampoo to strip an unfortunate haircolor. Soap is Dove for my dry skin and a generic face cleanser. I use Infusium for my hair conditioner.

Brush teeth outside of shower. I floss sporadically. I don’t own a tongue scraper but I do brush my tongue with my toothbrush (lips too). I use Tom’s of Maine toothpaste because it doesn’t taste sugary.

Wow, does that work? Where can I get some?

I brush teeth before I shower with Colgate, floss sometimes at night before bed, never heard of a tongue scraper, but I “scrape” my tongue with my toothbrush.

In shower I suds hair up with Salon Selectives, but don’t rinse yet, I soap body up from the neck down with Oil of Olay soap, wash my face, and then rinse everything at once.

Do you wash head to toe, or toe to head?
I wash from head to toe

Do you wash your hair before or after you wash your body?
I suds up my hair, then wash my body, then rinse my hair and body (therefore, head to toe again)

Do you brush your teeth while you’re in there?
*I’ve always found that a little odd. I’ve never done it. I always brush my teeth after I get out of the shower, and after I eat breakfast. I don’t get why some people brush their teeth right when they wake up, eat breakfast, then go to work/school. *

Do you floss? How often?
I really should, but I don’t regularly. I go on kicks of it, though. Lately, I would say I floss a few times a week (once a day), although I brush my teeth twice --> three times a day.

Do you have a tongue scraper thingy?
I do not, but I brush my tongue and the roof of my mouth as I am brushing my teeth.

What brand of products do you use?
Usually, Crest, but I have been known to use Colgate too. Sometimes I will buy listerine or some sort of mouthwash, but I haven’t in ages.

Man, I’ve wanted to start this thread ever since I had a ‘special shower’ with the boyfriend and saw him wash his hair - he faced the shower head and leaned forward ! What a freak ! I’ve never heard of anyone washing their hair any way other than facing away from the shower head … but then, I don’t know much about how people shower, so maybe I’m the freak.

Anyway:

Do you wash head to toe, or toe to head? Head to toe

Do you wash your hair before or after you wash your body? Don’t wash my hair; when I did I washed it first. I start with the left arm, work across, then start again at the bottom and work my way up.

Do you brush your teeth while you’re in there? If I’m feeling decadent.

Speaking of brushing your teeth, do you floss? How often? Not as often as I should. (My friend’s dentist once asked her this: she replied ‘Yes, I floss regularly.’ meaning: ‘Before every dentist appointment.’

**Do you have a tongue scraper thingy? ** No. What’s a tongue scraper thingy?

**6) What brand of products do you use? ** The nice soap they sell in health-food stores, and some kind of blue face-cleaning gel whose name I forget. Toothpaste: I like Tom’s of Maine but I (and now my husband) always get at least two tubes of Crest in Christmas stockings (I think my mom enjoys wrapping small, regularly-shaped things) so that usually lasts until spring.

Woops, forgot to mention I use dove soap. I prefer 2-in-1 shampoos, (like Pert Plus), because its faster, (hey, I’m lazy in the morning!), but I do like other shampoos like Outrageous, Pantine Pro-V and this banana shampoo & conditioner I get from The Body Shop.

1) Do you wash head to toe, or toe to head? Hair, pits, privates, arms, torso, legs & feet.

2) Do you wash your hair before or after you wash your body? During, in a before sort of way. I lather and leave it there while I’m washing. No conditioner.

3) Do you brush your teeth while you’re in there? No. Yuk.

4) Speaking of brushing your teeth, do you floss? How often? No. I should.

5) Do you have a tongue scraper thingy? No; I brush my tongue if it needs it.

**6) What brand of products do you use?**Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo for Fine/Oily Hair – everywhere. I do not use soap or body wash. I use my wife’s shower puff on my face, and that may have a little residual Olay Body Wash on it. Colgate toothpaste with baking powder & peroxide, usually with tartar control. Braun/Oral B electric toothbrush. Braun electric razor. On really bad hair days, I use this weird mousse-like stuff that come in a clear blue pump bottle – medium hold, just right for a guy’s short hair (can’t remember the name, and I’m at work). Occasional antiperspirant (daily use makes me adapt to it), occasional aftershave (Benetage or Acqua di Gio).

Hair first:

  • Wash with Herbal Essances , immediately rinse.
  • Condition with Pantene Pro-V, immediately rinse.
  • Every once in a while if I think it needs it, I throw on some Garnier Fructise deep conditioner and leave it on for about three minutes. Rinse.

Wash face. I use Purpose soap to control acne.

If shaving arm pits, shave arm pits. I use Venus.

Wash rest of body with whatever soap my husband picked up last, probably Irish Spring. Head to toe.

If shaving legs, shave legs.

Brush teeth after exiting shower and drying off. I use Mentadent.

I only floss if I have something in my teeth bugging me. I never tongue scrape.

Wash hair, shampooing twice.
Apply hair conditioner.
Lather face with special acne wash.
Rinse face and hair together.
Lean out of shower to wrap wet hair in towel.
Don exfolliating “spa gloves” and vigorously apply sage-scented body wash, starting with arms then doing upper back, chest & tummy, lower back and bum, thighs, calves and feet. Pay special attention to these areas: between toes, bumcrack, armpits.
Remove spa gloves.
With more sage body wash, do a second scrub of “privates” and armpits.
Rinse first with warm, then cold water all over
Yipes! Jump outta tub and dry off!

Toothbrushing is done at the sink, followed by flossing, tongue-scraping (I use a spoon), and mouthwash.

Takes me about 1/2 hour, especially if I shave my legs (after hair-washing, before spa gloves.)

Hmmm… lesseee…

Typical morning:

  1. Wait for shower to get to appropriate temp
  2. Wet throughly head to toe. Depending on mood maybe meditate on the quality of the steam laden air and why exactly do I do work that requires my getting up at this hour.
  3. Shampoo: alternate Head+Shoulders one day with a mild VO5 or Suave or whatever was on sale the next. Yes, every day: if I don’t, by hour 36 I feel like a giant wad of grease even though I’m told I look just fine.
    3a see 7a
  4. If using the mild shampoo, use such amount that it lathers so that I use it as a entire-body wash.
  5. rinse hair, apply conditioner (every other day)
  6. Ivory soap. top to toes
  7. Rinse off soap and conditioner. Use detachable showerhead to make sure I hit everywhere.
7a. cowgirl, I have determined that whether I face the shower or bow before it actually alters the way my hair “falls into place” afterwards.
  8. Apply face wash. Whatever was on sale, again. Nivea for Men currently. rinse.
  9. Step out. Shave. Whatever cream/foam was on sale (not gel). Atra-II pivot-head twin razor.
  10. Face moisturizer dependent on weather.

Time: 20-25 min.

On the road:

  1. Again check for proper temp. Non-home plumbing can have nasty surprises such as cross-installed H and C faucets.
  2. Combination shampoo-conditioner.
  3. Top-to-toes with available soap or even additional handful of shampoo-conditioner
  4. Do face and shave at sink
Time: As brief as 7 min.

Deod/Antiperp - whatever was on sale

Oral care: never in shower. Colgate Total. Flossing no less than 3xWeek. Generic mouthwash. Brushes, doesn’t scrape, tongue.

  1. Turn on hot water
  2. Immediately get in, regardless of whether the water is hot or not
  3. Get self wet
  4. Wash body with soap
  5. Wash hair with same soap
  6. Rinse off soap
  7. Get out of shower

Time: 60-90 seconds

I take showers at night. Does this make me wierd?

Funny you should mention that…

You may or may not choose to post to this thread but I gotta tell you, I started it quite some time ago. Bumpity, bump, bump and all that.

More head to toe. I have a very rigid washing procedure: chest, then arms, head, neck, face, back, b–er…posterior, legs, feet. Everything must be lathered and everything must be cleansed of suds afterward. This normally takes me 30-40 mins. and I almost always shower at night (it’s 12:30 right now and I’ll probably be getting in the shower around 1:00).

After I get out of the shower I first soak up the excess water from my head then dry most of my body with a towel. Then I take a paper towel and completely dry my head hair and my ears (I’ve had several ear infections and don’t care for another). I then dry my feet with paper towels; same goes for my privates. For some reason I don’t want to use the same towel for my head, feet and genitalia–it just feels gross.

I know, I know. I have issues.

See above.

Hell no.

No.

Nope.

Dove regular/white.

I start with the soap, and wash arms, pits, chest, and then move on down. Then I wash my hair. If I’m really grimy, I’ll wash it twice, but usually just once. Every so often I will shave after I finish showering, but I usually shave with an electric, so I don’t do that in the shower. About once a week, though, I shave with a blade in the shower. I NEVER brush my teeth in the shower. (I hate brushing with warm water)

Jman

  1. Do you wash head to toe, or toe to head? Head to toe

  2. Do you wash your hair before or after you wash your body? Usually right after I wash my face. I like to put the conditioner on my hair and wait to rinse until I have finished everything else.

  3. Do you brush your teeth while you’re in there? No.

  4. Speaking of brushing your teeth, do you floss? How often? Gosh yes. Every day My dentist told me this was more important than brushing.

  5. Do you have a tongue scraper thingy? Have one but I do not use it. I always brush my toungue.

  6. What brand of products do you use? Varies, whatever is on sale.

I sometimes, too frequently, forget if I have washed my hair or not. So, I guess I end up doing it twice. I think I am going nuts.

  1. Do you wash head to toe, or toe to head? Head to toe

  2. Do you wash your hair before or after you wash your body? Before

  3. Do you brush your teeth while you’re in there? No.

  4. Speaking of brushing your teeth, do you floss? How often? Yes, a couple times a week.

  5. Do you have a tongue scraper thingy? No, I brush my tongue.

  6. What brand of products do you use? Pantene or Neutrogena shampoo, Alterna conditioner once in a while, Body Shop face wash, Olay sensitive skin body wash, shick silk effects razor, colgate total toothpaste.

Okay, I have two typical shower routines, depending on whether or not I wash my hair (which I do every two days in the warm weather, every three days in the winter).
No hair wash:
Adjust water temp (I use a handheld shower wand). Wet whole body. Wash body with current scent of Bath and Body Shower Gel like so: arms, chest, tummy, legs, feet, pits and naught bits. Rinse.
Hair Wash Day:
Adjust water temp, wet hair, apply shampoo, rinse, apply conditioner, don’t rinse. I use Suave shampoo and conditioner, and try to use a fragrance that coordinates with my body wash. Right now my body wash is Warm Vanilla Sugar, so my shampoo and conditioner are Vanilla Floral. Let conditioner soak in while I wash and described above, then shave legs with Schick Intuition. Then I put a little shower gel on a scrubby sponge I keep in the shower for just this purpose, and scrub down the glass doors and walls of the shower. Rinse conditioner out of my hair. This sounds really complex, but body wash/leg shave/shower scrub takes about 10-15 minutes, and washing the shower like this a couple of times a week keeps me from ever having to do a major industrial type shower cleaning.

I do not brush my teeth in the shower, I do it when I get out, with Colgate Simply White toothpaste, it does work like the commercials say. I don’t floss (I know, I know), I do brush my tongue. I dont’ have a scraper, although I might consider taking a spoon in the bathroom for this purpose.

I use a moisturizer in the morning (Olay Total Effects), but for some reason, if I keep it in the bathroom, I forget. So it sits right next to my computer, and I use it while I’m doing a send/receive on my emails. I seldom wear any makeup besides lipstick, for every day purposes.

I don’t wash my face in the morning. I wash it every night, and if I sleep on clean linens, and my skin isn’t oily, why does it need to be washed in the morning? I use Avon Gentle Face Wash for normal/dry skin, and hot water. Follow with Avon Anew moisturizer.

1.Get under hot shower (I have to shower second, otherwise my poor bf gets no hot water).
2.Wet hair and put in Shampoo (currently Aussie everyday stuff, but I’m not too fussy), rinse off and put on conditioner.
3. Put shaving foam on necessary areas, step out from under water and shave.
4. Back under water, rinse off foam, use facewash and exfoliator (Garnier Citrus C and St Ives Apricot scrub).
5. Put soap (Lush’s Red Rooster) or shower gel (Dove Shower Cream Oil) on puff, scrub all over from head to foot.
6. Rinse off soap or gel, rinse off conditioner, turn off shower, move down to end of bath.
7. Rub all over with moisturiser (Cocoa butter) and get into robe and hair towel.
8. Spray bath with cleaner.
9. Brush teeth (Colgate)
10. Rinse bath and shower head
11.Spray on perfume (Mania by Armani) and use roll-on (Nivea Silk).
12. Dress
13. Brush hair, and put up for work, leave to dry loose at weekend.

That’s pretty much it.

After taking a shower this morning, I paid far more attention to the process than I normally do. I realized I should amend my earlier post.

I don’t exactly wash from toe to head. Instead, I start with the upper thigh of my left leg, then work my way down the leg to the foot, scrub the toes, and then I repeat the procedure on my right leg.

Then, I work on my torso, starting with the chest, and then down to the stomach.

Next up are the arms. I wash the left arm beginning with the forearm, then up the upper arm, to my shoulder, and my upper back. Repeat process with right arm/shoulder.

Then I reach around and wash my lower back.

Final steps are the pits, and then the naughty bits. I’ll spare the reader any details regarding the latter step.

Head to toe, more or less. Procedure:

  1. Start shower. Let run a few seconds to take the cold edge off the tub.

  2. Step in. Face shower head. Let warm water run over head for a while.
    2a. Occasionally, pee.
2b. If it’s a shaving day, spend a few seconds rubbing warm water on whiskers to pre-soften.

  3. Turn back on shower head to shampoo hair. I have two, a dandruff shampoo and a conditioning shampoo. I use the former two or three times a week, and the latter the rest of the time. I leave the shampoo in while I…

  4. Wash face. I use Lever 2000 bar soap; I don’t have a separate product for face vs. body.

  5. Rinse whole head, shampoo from hair and soap from face, at the same time. This is done facing the shower head.

  6. Soap and scrub body, in order: left armpit, left arm, chest, neck, right armpit, right arm, stomach, crotch. Rinse.

  7. Re-soap and scrub armpits. (I’m fairly compulsive about getting that waxy leftover-deodorant feel out of my pits.) Rinse.

  8. Two or three times a week, scrub out my ears with a washcloth.

  9. Two or three times a week, scrub my back using this cool loofa-sausage thing with handles on the ends.

  10. On Mon, Wed, and occasionally Fri, shave face. Hot water in shower has softened bristles and reduces nicking. I have a fogless mirror suction-cupped to the wall for this. I use soap for lather, rather than specialized shaving product. I also don’t use aftershave except on special occasions.

Never brush teeth in shower.

Floss: two or three times a week.

Tongue-scraper: no. I brush my tongue.

Products: Aussie Mega and Selsun Blue shampoo. Lever 2000 bar soap. Jason Powersmile natural toothpaste (it’s SLS-free, which has eliminated my mouth sores). Reach toothbrush, Firm. Aftershave = Clinique Post-Shave Healer, which is far too expensive to use every time but is very nice if I want to feel well-groomed for special occasions.

Total shower time: 5 minutes if in huge rush, 10 minutes if being efficient, 15 or longer if shaving or whacking off.
