How I Met Your Mother - Season Premiere

why?

Why what?

The Autumn of Breakups? Anyone?

Much better than the premier.

One down. Two to go.

I guess Ted meets her this coming May.

I have only one request: More Ray Wise.

I can’t see Ray Wise without seeing Leland Palmer/BOB. But for heaven’s sake, why does a grown woman need her father’s permission to get married?

Is there a discontinuity? An earlier show had a preview of Ted meeting his wife in the rain after the wedding. Now he’s checking her out at the reception as she plays the bass.

I don’t think it is necessarily conflicting. He could check her out during the wedding but meet her (in the sense of actual speaking) after the wedding.

Oh just get it over with already! Alright, fine, there is plenty of setup to make some good shows for the rest of the season, but I’m tired of the baby already, they spend more time teasing the upcoming weddings than on the plots of individual episodes, and what the hell is wrong with Robin’s voice? She had a handful of lines, couldn’t they redub those after she got her voice back?

Did the woman at the train station have a bass or musical instrument with her? I’m thinking not, but can’t remember. But this turn of events also puts a big hole in the theory that the girl is Barney’s sister. So the uncle barney and aunt robin are just friendly terms and not technical ones. Unless they are setting us up for a big surprise!

Doesn’t this pretty much wrap up the “Barney’s sister” theory? Would she accept a gig at her own brother’s wedding? Would there ever have been a question if his sister was in a band and they were desperate for a stand-in?

Also, Robin seemed to be dancing happily in the background - looks like they went through with it after all?

The twist will be that Ted becomes a polygamist Mormon. Thus making Patrice, Barney’s sister and the base player all the mother. And setting the stage for an obvious “my three moms” spin-off series.

It really doesn’t matter. Barney has never met his sister. It’s entirely possible he wouldn’t think to invite her (assuming he even invites his father) because she’s an adult “at college in the city.” They can plausibly keep the storyline of Ted not knowing the mother is Barney’s sister at least until the wedding reception.

Isn’t the bassist Cindy’s (Rachel Bilson) ex-roommate? Didn’t she say her ex-roommate was the bassist in the band? Or did she just say she was in a band?

He saw her at the wedding; he didn’t necessarily *meet *her at the wedding. I predict an episode where Ted will be trying to walk up and introduce himself to the cute bassist from the band (whose face we can’t see), but various complications keep on getting in his way.

She just said she’s in the band, but in the episode Ted visited their apartment, we learned that she plays bass.

Well, we know it’s all about the yellow umbrella. And It’s raining during the wedding and Ted swipes a yellow umbrella (for the birde I think?). So it could be that he doesn’t “meet” her until he tracks her down “to return the umbrella” although it’s quite clear that he’s interested while he’s watching her play.

Also, I was wrong, Robin is happy and dancing with her Dad, but Barney is nowhere in sight, so I guess it’s still possibel that the wedding didn’t happen but they all decided to go enjoy the party. Still, she looks awfully happy for that to be the case. . .

To sum up what we know with the latest partial reveal in the last episode: Ted is apparently smitten with the future Mother during the Stinson-Scherbatsky wedding party (but who knows if the wedding actually went off). But the evening ends with him alone and depressed on the rainy Farhampton train platform for a reason which hasn’t been revealed yet. Bass playing Mother also ends up on the platform after taking a taxi alone from the wedding (presumably) where she ends up opening the Yellow Umbrella of Fate Ted left at the lesbian roommate ex’s apartment years ago because Ted and the old lady stranger have claimed the only part of the platform that is covered from the rain.

Was Barney’s and Robin’s wedding the “The most disastrous one ever,” od was that Punchy’s?

Punchy’s. Marshall ruined it.

Okay, I’m now willing to accept the Barney’s sister theory was wrong.

Yeah, me too. Interesting thing, though. Carly’s fixation on Ted’s age (what Ted described at Granddaddy issues) took on a new aspect when I learned that she was Barney’s sister - since her father is old enough to be her grandfather.
