How Many of the Best Pictures of the last 25 years have you seen?

13, the last one being LOTR:ROTK. I just don’t care that much about movies anymore.

22, counting American Beauty. I’m surprised at myself and also surprised at how many of these I would never waste my time on again. I want every minute back that the Departed stole.

Wow…I knew movies had faded for me as an entertainment outlet, but I didn’t realize how much.

Going back from 2000, I saw 13 of them. From 2001 on, zero.

  1. I’ve seen American Beauty and Cider House Rules, so that’s a wash.

Same here, except I’ve only seen six. You must be some kinda netflixin’ machine!

Heh. I was on an airplane and borrowed a friend’s copy of Slumdog Millionaire to watch on the airplane. I got to nearly the very end (I think) - the main character had just met up with his long-time lost love in that kingpin’s kitchen or whatever - when my battery died. I was all, “Huh. Oh well.” and never bothered to even find out what happened after that.

I went back and looked at all 83 and I have seen 41 of them, with the earliest one I have seen being *Grand Hotel[/] from 1932.

11 all the way through plus parts of 6 more (that I didn’t vote as having “seen”).

Ditto.

Our new slogan: “The SDMB - where more people watch Forrest Gump than Lord of the Rings.”

Not truthful, but accurate. Or something like that.

16, no matter who won in 1999.

I’ve seen both “Cider House Rules” and “American Beauty,” so either way, I’ve seen 13, with the most recent one being “Crash.” Not nearly enough exploding car chases in Best Picture nominees for my taste.

Only 4 - Rain Man, Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, and LotR.

I’ve seen 54 out of the complete list, the earliest being “It Happened One Night”.

Is that LotR movie the second or the third?

I’ve only seen 10* of the movies on that list, eight of those in the theater. I’ve had several of the others on my must see list but haven’t gotten to them yet.

  • 10 is based on RotK being the third movie. If it is the second movie, as you can maybe tell I’m not a big LotR fan, then the total goes to 11.

I was just about to post a near-identical paragraph. (I have seen, and highly recommend, Platoon.)

C’mon, Equi; you owe it to yourself. Particularly with Schindler’s List and Unforgiven.
mmm

17 out of 25.

The oldest one I haven’t seen is American Beauty.

The newest one I’ve seen is Crash.

I prefer my movies aged.

It is the third. Popular opinion had it that they waited for the trilogy to be complete before bestowing the Oscar, and it represents the achievement of the whole series not just the final film.

17

Four, plus a little bit of American beauty.
