Once every morning and again before bed. The first is for the world; the second is for me (and for my wife).
Brooklyn, NY, where despite rumors, there IS good water pressure. I shower once a day, usually. Its not always first thing in the day, but always before I go out (after a shower is when I get dressed in new clothes too). IF I showered yesterday and IF I’m not leaving the house except maybe to go to the drug store, i’ll let a day slide. Since I only shave in the shower, I can check my chin stubble to let me know if I’m overdue.
About once a week (often Sunday nights if I’m working M-F) I’ll take a hot bubble bath before going to sleep, but I don’t consider it a replacement to showering.
**I of course will never object if my girlfriend wants me to join HER shower, regardless of the time of day and whether or not I already showered.
I’m in Houston, TX. I shower daily to start the day off. During the summer, if I’ve worked up a good sweat, I’ll take a short one in the afternoon.
When I’m working from home, every 2 days or sometimes 3. When I’m commuting to an office on a daily basis, every work day and once or twice on the weekends.
Obviously oftener if I’m doing something that could lead to smelliness.
Every other day, unless I’ve been doing something to work up a sweat (which in July and August is as little as walking out the door).
I should add that since my wife is fairly germ-phobic, no shower before bed = no lovin’.
So for me, showering is in fact a biological necessity.
I didn’t “forget” to sign it. If you would actually read the pit thread about me, you would see that I stopped signing them except for the first post in a thread, in accordance with the board rules. But that would spoil your petty little snark, wouldn’t it?
Broomstick, gotcha (ya).
From the US (Ohio), but live in Japan.
During the winter I shower every other day or so and fully immerse myself in filthy hot spring water a couple times a month. Anymore and my skin gets kinda dry, not enough to be a problem, but enough to be itchy and annoying.
In the summer I take a warm shower every morning and usually a brisk cold shower after work or play.
The other day, after a particularly long period (3 days!) of not showering (I had been particularly busy/forgetful) someone actually commented that I smelled good. I wasn’t sure if that was flattering or creepy.
Also, shock and horror, I don’t comb my hair, nor do I always wear deodorant.
I’m a filthy, filthy little boy
I shower every morning, without fail, unless the power is out (the well pump won’t work) or I’m too sick to stand up long enough (in which case, I’ll take a bath). In the summer, I’ll shower again later in the day…sometimes 3 or 4 times in a day when I’m getting extremely dirty and sweaty. I really hate to go without a shower; even to the point of taping plastic bags over bandages and IV lines and such, just so I can get in a shower for a while.
I used to get the itchy skin thing in the winter from standing in a hot shower too long, but it hasn’t been a problem recently. I still stand in the shower, but now I use Dove soap instead of Ivory: I believe Alice the Goon made the recommendation, if my memory serves. And my skin wasn’t real bad (I’m naturally greasy :)), like some people have…just slightly dried from excessive hot water.
I shower at least once a day, often twice. Every day after getting out of bed, and (when needed) between school/work shifts. No skin problems, no dryness or itching, and I use basic Ivory soap.
I find it’s necessary; I break a sweat at some point every day, whether from working or exercising or hauling bookbags up flights of stairs. I can’t imagine a life sedentary enough such that I could go a couple of days without needing to wash. It also helps to “reset” my hair, which is very fine and looks greasy and weighted down after I sleep, even if it was newly clean when I went to bed. It’s also a good “wake up” routine; I’d probably get in a car accident if I didn’t shower away the drowsiness.
Minimum of once a day, and almost always twice. Once right after I get up because I am reasonably disgusting otherwise, and once after I work out, because, again, disgusting otherwise. I only wash my hair with shampoo once a day though - it’s very oily hair but let’s not completely beat the crap out of it, you know.
If I’m working, I’ll have a shower after I get home from work but before I go to bed; I don’t shower in the morning if I’m working. Why bother? I’m just going to get sweaty and dirty at work anyway.
If I’m not working, probably once every 3 days unless I really need to cool down or I’ve got something like a dinner to be at.
Brit here,I shower every morning(It doesn’t take long and it wakes me up)and if I’m going out in the evening I shower again.
But for exjobrelated reasons I have in the past quite often not even had a wash for weeks on end so I’m not compulsive about it.
Swede. I shower almost daily. Won’t have one today, but that’s very uncommon. Months since last time I skipped one, I’d wager.
Who are the >1% for whom it is medically necessary?
My hair gets limp (well, limper) if I don’t give it a shower. I only actually wash it every other day, but if I don’t get it wet and then dry it it just looks kind of meh. So that’s really why I shower every day, and of course if I run. I try to time my runs so I don’t have to shower twice in a day, though.
I assume you mean < 1%.
Things like suppurative hydradenitis, chronic cellulitis, some more severe psoriatic conditions, to name a few of the more common ones.
THAT’s a new one for me!
Perhaps I could arrange a nugget of neutronium if you elucidate…?
My current place doesn’t have running water, so it’s noteworthy when I shower more than once a week. No, I don’t stink. In the summer I might wash more often, but it’s entirely too cold for bucket baths this time of year.
Most people don’t have that much BO as long as they’re wearing clean clothes. Dirty clothes hold a lot more stench that a dirty body.
I’m going to sound like an obsessive cleaner, but I’m not. I have 3 showers most days
One in the morning before work, one after my lunchtime run/cycle, and again in the evening after I have been to the gym. I get really, really sweaty when I exercise. I would like to cut down, but I just cannot get up in the morning and head off to work without a shower - I can also get really sweaty during the night, even without other bedtime activities.
And I do have to be really careful - I get dermatitis, so I use moisturiser as soap, and apply skin cream after every shower. Over the past year (in addition to losing weight with the working out) I have improved my skin beyond my wildest expectations - I now have no patches of irritation at all. So sensitive skin and showering are not exclusive.
However, on weekends and holidays I don’t have a shower every day - often I settle for a flannel wash or a couple of wet wipes on appropriate areas. So I am pretty relaxed about it. I just shower alot.
Si
Daily showers in the morning after I get up, for the most part. I’ve skipped a day once in a while if I know I’m not going to be doing anything but lazing around the house, or if I’m really sick. I’ve got relatively fine hair (getting finer as time goes on) which doesn’t need a whole lot of shampooing when I’ve got a haircut; I usually wash it every other day when it gets longer and it seems to do OK.
