I shower maybe once or twice a year. I prefer baths. Even in the summertime, I’d rather have a nice hot soak than a shower. It has to be pretty darned hot, or no tub available, for me to take a shower.
When I worked a Real Job, of course I bathed/showered every day before work. Now that I work at home, it might be every other day or even every third, if I haven’t been to the gym. I’m just sitting here working most of the time. I also often wear the same clothes for several days, for the same reason (though underwear gets changed, of course). I do bathe and put on clean clothes before going out in public, natch (if it’s more than a quick trip to the store or something). I wash my hair every few days, or again, before going out and about.
I also go easy on the soap, and I don’t use deodorant. I just wash myself regularly and that’s enough. I agree that Americans tend to be overly hygiene-obsessed.
Someone upthread mentioned that his wife won’t give him nookie if he’s not freshly showered. I’m sort of the same way; I usually prefer that both of us be freshly clean, but sometimes Mr. S can’t keep his hands (and other things) off me even when I’m “less than fresh.” I can’t help thinking, “eww, ick,” but I guess it’s a pheromones thing or something. Also, his sense of smell is impaired because of allergies, so that’s a factor. Ah well, if he’s having fun, so can I!
How funny - I’ve always called them ‘boing’ curls too because little kids can’t resist pulling one down to see it bounce back. When adults do it I want to belt them. My partner has begged me not to cut them off so I’ve had to struggle to look professional too. I can pull of the clothes easily but my hair still screams ‘hippie chick’. Luckily I live in a very casual place full of aging hippies so it didn’t cause me any work-related problems and I can manage to tie it back well enough to get it out of my face. I wouldn’t trade it for straight hair though. I’d feel naked without them bouncing around up there.
This thread is going to keep asking me to post in it, until I do.
So, I shower every day. I wear clean underwear every day. I wear clean shirt every day, or if I’ve been particularly inactive - every two days.
A pair of trousers can last up to 3 days.
I wash my hands a lot too. I hate them feeling greasy and transfering that grease to keyboards/mice etc…
Am I the only one who takes their once daily shower at night? I can’t stand getting into bed feeling dirty. I figure I can’t get that dirty sleeping, so I am clean in the morning. I have incredibly curly hair as well that I keep short. I find that if I gel it at night, all I have to do in the morning to revive it is wet it down a bit with my hands or a spray bottle and I’m good to go. That also is a great way of going out with out having a sopping wet head (I can’t blow dry it or I would be a giant frizz ball, even with a diffuser).
I guess it also might have something to do with the fact that I like to hit the snooze button 15 hundred times, by showering at night I can be out the door in around 20 minutes after I wake up.
